Introduction
Chapter 1: Overview
1.1 Introduction
This handbookdescribes thefollowing HSB Series systems:
L755 Fishfinder with Chartplotter, 7" Monochrome LCD Display
L760 Fishfinder with Chartplotter,7" Color LCD Display
Ifyou havean HSBSeriesLCD display, it is possible toconnectanotherHSB
series LCDor CRT displaytoprovide an integratedsystem.Connecting an
HSB SeriesFishfinder display to a Pathfinder Radar display enables radar
datatoberepeatedonthefishfinderdisplayandfishfinder/chartdatarepeated
ontheradardisplay.
Thishandbookdescribesthedisplayunitcontrolsanddetailsbothfishfinder
and chart operations. Controls that are specific to either fishfinder or
chartplotter are described infishfinder or chart sections/chapters.
Note:Many illustrations in this handbook show example screens. The screen
yousee on your display dependson your system configuration andsetup op-
tions, so it may differ from the illustration.
How to Use This Handbook
If you areinstallingthe display system yourself, you should read Chapter 2
before you start the installation. This chapter also provides information that
will be useful if you areconnecting your HSB Series system to other
equipment.
Foranoverviewof thedisplayunitcontrols,thefishfinderand the chartplotter
systems,readChapter 1.Chapter 3willhelpyoustart usingyoursystem.
For detailed information on fishfinder operations refer to Chapter 4.
For chartplotter operating details, refer to Chapter 5and Chapter 6.
To change the system set up defaults, read Chapter 7.
Chapter 8 provides information on user maintenance, and whatto do if you
experience problems.
The Appendicesprovide additional information thatyou may find useful:
AppendixAlists the technicalspecifications forthe fishfinder and for the
chartplotter.
AppendixBprovidesdetails on connecting the display unit to specific GPS
systems.
AppendixCdefines the chart features shown on the chartdisplay.

General
AppendixDdefines the SeaTalk and NMEA data that is transferred on
integrated systems.
AListofAbbreviations,Indexand warranty information are included at the
end of the handbook.
A summary of thefishfinder and chartplotter controls are provided on the
Quick Reference Cards supplied with your system.
Terminology
The following terminology isused to describe radar and chartplottersystems:
General
The HSB Series Fishfinder, illustrated below, comprises the 7" LCD display
unit, fishfinder transducerand associated cables.

Theunitincludes:
•7" color (L760) or monochrome (L755) LCD display
•Trackpad
•Eleven dedicated(labeled)control keys
•Four softkeys (unlabeled) whose functionalitychanges
•Two slots for the C-MAP NT®chartcards
The display and keys can be illuminated for night-time use.
The HSB (High Speed Bus) connection enables transfer of databetween two
compatible units. For example, the fishfinder data is transferred from the
fishfinder(the master display) via the HSB connection and can be displayed
and controlled on any otherHSB SeriesLCD or CRTdisplay (the repeater
display).In particular,youcan connectyour HSB SeriesFishfinderto a
remote HSB Series Pathfinder Radar to provide fishfinder, chart, and radar
functionality on both displays.
Note:Your HSB Series display may require a software upgrade to repeat
Fishfinder data. Please contact your authorized Raytheon dealer for details.

Display Unit
Features
Transducer
The HSB SeriesFishfinder issupplied with a thru-hull bronze transducer or a
transom-mountplastictransducer.
The transducers measure water depth and temperature, distance traveled is
also measured andisused to calculatespeed. It is important to position your
transducercorrectly, as described inChapter 2.
Display Unit Features
•Fishfinder –Usesdepth,from eithera transom mount or thru-hulltrans-
ducer, and speed andtemperatureif the transduceris so equipped.
•Dual or split frequency fishfinder display –50 kHz, 200 kHz
•Fishfinder display options –fishfinder window, zoom, bottom lock and A-
scope.
•Chartplotter –Displays chart information from the C-MAP NT®chart
cards (C-Cards)
•Uses position informationfrom GPS, DGPS or Loran-C technology
•Displaysand transfers SeaTalk, NMEA and HSB data
•Providesfull control of datafrom otherHSB instruments
•Three full-screen operating modes: Fishfinder, Chart,Data Log (if appro-
priate data is available)
•View fishfinder and chartsimultaneously
•Half-screen windows todisplay additional data: depth/temperature graph,
Course Deviation Indicator (CDI), Bearing and Distance Indicator (BDI),
navigationdata.
•Choice ofchart orientation: Head Up, CourseUp and NorthUp
Operating Modes
The combinedFishfinder/Chartplotter display provides, three full-screen
modes–fishfinder,chartanddatalog;you selectthe operatingmodeusingthe
DISPLAY key as described in Chapter 3.
YoucanalsosetWindowsOntosplitthedisplayintotwohalf-screenwindows

The mainoperating mode (fishfinder or chart) is displayed in the upper
window; you choose what is displayed in the lower window.
In addition, if you have an HSBSeries Pathfinder Radar display connected,
you can set the display to radarmode; this provides similar functionality to a
combined Pathfinder Radar/Chartplotter.

1.2 The Fishfinder Display
When you firstturnthedisplayuniton andselect fishfinder mode, the
scrolling bottom graph is displayed.Thisisa graphical representation ofthe
echoesseenbytheFishfinder.Astimepasses,thisdisplayscrollsfromrightto
left and becomes a record of the echoes seen. A typical display is shown in
Figure 1-2.
The imagesat the right hand side of the display arethe mostrecent echoes.
Some echoes indicate fish, and others show the bottom. Itcan also indicate
bottom structures, suchas areefor shipwreck. Theupper andlower depth
range limits are shown.
The fishfinder screenincludes a status bar that displays transducer frequency
and indicates which auto settings areenabled (Gain, Color Gain, Range,
Zoom andFrequency),and alarmstatus (fish and shallow/deepwaterdepths).
Youcan customize the fishfinderby choosing what is displayed and how it is
displayed (including language and units). For example, youcanset thescroll
speed ofthe bottom graph display, andyou can selectthe range to adjust the
amountofdetail displayed.
You canview the cursor position anda varietyofdata (suchas speed, heading
and depth)from the transducerand otherequipment in user-selectabledata
boxes. These data boxes can be moved around thescreen and they can be
switched on or off.
Chapter 3includes detailson adjusting the display, other setup optionsare
describedinSection 7.3 andSection 7.4.

The fishfinder providescontrols to select additional modes:
•Frequency–youcanselectthetransducerfrequency, 50kHzforwidecov-
erage and deepwater,200 kHzfor a detailedview, both frequenciessimul-
taneously or auto-frequency. The default setting is auto-frequency, which
determines the optimum frequency of operation based on the current
depth.
•Bottom Lock –changes the operating mode to re-set the bottom. It pro-
vides a bottom-up view: the bottom is used as the reference, its image is
flattened and depths aredisplayed here. Bottom lockmode is used prima-
rily to filter-out the bottom structure and display fish details only.
