TAPE TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
TAPE TENSION
Before inserting acassette, take up
any slack in the tape by turning the
hub with apencil. Avoid touching
the tape, If you do not remove excess
slack, the tape might become tangled
in the record/playback mechanism.
If you use one particular cassette
several times, the tape can become
too tightly wound. Atightly-wound
tape can cause distorted recording
and playback. Before using the tape
again, restore normal tension by
fast-forwarding through the entire
cassette and then completely re
winding it
HOW TO ERASE ACASSETTE
RECORDING
It is not necessary to erase a tape
before recording on it again, As you
record, you erase the previous re-
cording, To erase aprevious record-
ing without making anew one
1, Set the VOICE ACTUATION switch
to OUT, and disconnect any ox-
ternal microphone.
2. Insert the cassette.
3. Insert the supplied erasing plug
into the MIC jack.
4. Operate the CTR-82 as though
you were recording, As the tape
moves through your recorder, itis
erased,
PREVENTING ACCIDENTAL
TAPE ERASURE
Every tape cassette has apair of
removable plastic tabs on its back
edge, These tabs tell the recorder
that it can record on the tape. A
small sensor inside the cassette
compartment checks to see if the tab
is in place.
If the sensor finds the tab, it allows
the CTR-82 to record, If the tab is
missing, the sensor detects this, and
prevents you from pressing down
the [RECORD] button.
To prevent accidental erasure of a
tape you want to save, carefully break
off the appropriate tab as shown,
SIDE AUp \
For SIDE B.
if you later want to record on the
tape, you can do so by placing a
piece of thin plastic tape over the
opening left by the missing tab.
When you are using acassette with
‘one or both tabs removed, do not
force down the [RECORD] button.
This can damage the mechanism.
For the fastest and most thorough
cassette erasure, use aRadio Shack
bulk tape eraser.
Caution: When using abulk eraser,
removal of the erase protection tabs
does not prevent erasure of the
cassette.
CARE OF THE TAPE HEADS
Aiter every 20 hours of tape ope-
ration, clean the tape heads and
related parts, If you do not do this,
metal oxide particles accumulate on
the recording/playback head. This
accumulation can degrade the high-
frequency response, can interfere
with tape travel, and might cause
your tape to become tangled in the
mechanism,
Use atape head cleaning kit available
from your local Radio Shack store.

MAINTENANCE
Your Realistic CTR-82 is an examplo of suporior design and craftsmanship
The following suggestions will help you care for the product so that you can
enjoy it for years
Keep your tape recorder dry. If it does get wet, wipe it off
immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can
corrode the electronic circuits.
Use and store your tape recorder only in normal tempera-
ture environments. High temperatures can shorten the
life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or
melt plastic parts.
Handle your tape recorder gently and carefully. Dropping
it can damage circuit boards and can cause the product to
work improperly.
Keep your tape recorder away from dust and dirt, These
can cause premature wear of parts.
Wipe your tape recorder with a dampened cloth occasion-
ally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals,
cleaning solvents, or strong detergents.
Use only fresh batteries 10 power your tape recorder.
Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak
damaging chemicals that destroy electronic circuits.
Modifying or tampering with your tape recorder’s internal components can
cause a malfunction and might invalidate your warranty. If the product does
not perform as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for
assistance
