Introduction to Red Rose Music
Dear Music Lover,
Since 1972, I have been committed to developing state of the art audio products that enhance our love
of music.
It is clear to me that the audio world has become oriented towards complexity and mediocrity. Even
high price tags do not guarantee sonic quality or a good investment. In December of 1998, I founded
Red Rose Music to focus on a return to quality and simplicity. We nourish the love of music by making
products with exceptional qualities, by taking care of our customers, and by taking a stand in the
industry for what is right, not just expedient.
Using breakthrough technology in combination with proven principles of the past, Red Rose Music
offers more human, natural sound. In addition,we offer it at more affordable prices and in compact
packaging. The people who design and hand-craft Red Rose equipment are passionate, dedicated, gifted
and committed individuals. It is my privilege to work with them.
Thank you for choosing Red Rose Music equipment. You have selected well.
–Mark Levinson, CEO

We would love to hear from you!

Owner’s manual
The Rosette 2 Phono Stage Preamplifier
The Red Rose Music Rosette 2 Phono Stage Preamplifier is a high-quality, solid state stereo pream-
plifier with RIAA equalization for use with both moving coil and moving magnet cartridges. The
Rosette 2 has been designed to match the Rosette 1 Power Amplifier, but it will also work with other
line-stage preamplifiers and integrated power amplifiers.
The power supply for the Rosette 2 Preamplifier is supplied in a separate enclosure, in order to keep
electrical noise out of the audio signal chain. Both the Preamplifier case and the Power Supply case
are thoroughly shielded.

Rear Panel
The rear panel of the power supply has two sockets:
a four-pin DC Output socket and an IEC AC Input
connector. Plug the cable from the preamplifier into
the DC Output socket.
The AC Input connector mates with the power cable
supplied with your amplifier. The voltage, AC
frequency and power plug should all be correct for
your local AC power standard. If your amplifier does
not match the local standard, consult your dealer or
Red Rose Music.
The IEC receptacle may contain a fuse to protect
The Power Supply
Front Panel
The front panel of the power supply has one
pushbutton control and one blue LED
indicator on the front panel. To turn on the
preamplifier, push the Power button. The
LED lights when the preamplifier is operat-
ing.

your amplifier. The fuse holder contains two fuses. The fuse farthest from the outside of the fuse
holder is in line with the power cable. The second fuse is a spare. To open the fuse holder, disconnect
the power cable from the amplifier, and insert the blade of a small flat-blade screwdriver into the
hole at the top of the fuse holder and turn the screwdriver. To remove the active fuse, twist the fuse
holder.
The Preamplifier
Front Panel
The front panel of the preamplifier has one
control, a pushbutton selector switch, and two
blue LED indicators. To change the type of
cartridge you want to use with the preampli-
fier, push the MM/MC button. The LED
indicator that corresponds to the currently
active cartridge type will light.
Rear Panel
The preamplifier has separate inputs for moving
coil and moving magnet cartridges. The INPUT R
selector switch controls the impedance of the
moving coil input. The INPUT C selector switch
controls the capacitance of the moving magnet
input.
The Right and Left Output connectors carry the
line-level output signals from the preamplifier.

These outputs are normally connected to the inputs of a line-stage preamplifier or a power amplifier.
The two GND terminals are grounding posts. If necessary, use one terminal to connect the turntable
ground to the preamplifier, and the other terminal to connect the preamplifier ground to the amplifier
ground.
Installing the Rosette 2
To install your Rosette 2 Preamplifier, follow these steps:
1. Choose a location for your preamplifier. To keep interference to a minimum it should be as
close to your turntable as possible. Allow at least one inch (2.5 cm) of clearance around the
top and sides of both pieces, and an inch (2.5 cm) between the two cases.
2. Connect the DC Input cable from the back of the preamplifier to the DC Output socket on the
back of the power supply. When the plug is in the right position, it will fit into the socket
easily. Do not try to force the plug.
3. Plug the audio cables from your turntable into the inputs of the preamplifier. If you are using
a moving coil cartridge, use the MC INPUT connectors. If you are using a moving magnet
cartridge, use the MM INPUT connectors. Connect the ground wire from the turntable to one
of the GND terminals on the back of the preamplifier.
4. If you are using a moving coil cartridge, set the INPUT R control to match the impedance of
your cartridge; if you are using a moving magnet cartridge, set the INPUT C control to match
the combined capacitance of your cartridge and turntable. If you don’t know the correct
setting for your cartridge, consult the documentation supplied with the cartridge, or ask your
dealer for assistance.
5. Connect the OUTPUT connectors on the back of the preamplifier to a pair of line-level inputs
on your line stage preamplifier or power amplifier.
6. Plug the AC cable supplied with the preamplifier into the AC Input socket on the back of the
power supply. Plug the other end of the power cable into an AC power outlet.
