The exclamation point with-
in an equilateral triangle is
intended to alert the user of
the presence of important
operating and maintenance
(servicing) instructions in
the literature accompanying
the appliance.
CAUTION:
TO PREVENT THE RISK OF
ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT
REMOVE COVER OR BACK. NO
USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE.
REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED
SERVICE PERSONNEL.
The lightning flash with arrow-
head, within an equilateral triangle,
is intended to alert the user of the
presence of uninsulated “danger-
ous voltage” within the productsʼ
enclosure that may be of sufficient
magnitude to constitute a risk of
electric shock to persons.
1. Read Instructions – All the safety and operation
instructions should be read before the subwoofer is
operated.
2. Retain Instructions – The safety and operating instruc-
tions should be kept for future reference.
3. Heed Warnings – All warnings on the subwoofer and in
these operating instructions should be followed.
4. Follow Instructions – All operating and other instruc-
tions should be followed
5. Water and Moisture – The subwoofer should not be
used near water. For example, near a bathtub, washbowl,
kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a
swimming pool.
6. Ventilation – The subwoofer should be situated so that
its location or position does not interfere with its proper
ventilation. For example, the system should not be
situated on a bed, sofa, rug or similar surface that may
block airflow past the rear heatsinks or placed in a built-
in installation such as a bookcase or cabinet that may
impede the flow of air past the heatsinks.
7. Heat – The subwoofer should be situated away from
sources such as radiators, heaters, furnace outflow vents
or other devices which produce heat.
8. Power Sources – The subwoofer should be connected
to a power supply only of the type described in these
operation instructions or as marked on the component.
9. Grounding or Polarization – The subwoofer is
equipped with a polarized alternating-current line plug
(a plug having one blade wider than the other). This
plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is
an intentional safety feature. If you are unable to insert
the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If
the plug should still fail to fit, contact an electrician to
replace the obsolete (unpolarized) outlet. Do not defeat
the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
10. Power Cord Protection – Power supply cords should
be routed so that they are not likely to walked upon
or pinched by items placed upon or against them. Pay
particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience recep-
tacles and the point where they exit the subwoofer. To
prevent electric shock, do not use the subwoofer polar-
ized plug with an extension cord, receptacle or other
outlet unless the blades can be fully inserted to prevent
blade exposure.
11. Non-use Periods – The power cord of the subwoofer
should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused
for a long period of time.
12. Damage Requiring Service – The subwoofer should be
serviced only by qualified service personnel when:
A. Subwoofer power supply cord or the plug has
been damaged; or
B. Objects have fallen or liquid has spilled into
the subwoofer; or
C. The subwoofer has been exposed to rain; or
D. The subwoofer does not appear to operate; or
exhibits a marked change in performance; or
E. The subwoofer has been dropped or damaged.
13. Servicing – The user should not attempt to service the
subwoofer beyond those means described in this operat-
ing manual. Opening or removing covers may expose
you to dangerous voltages or other hazards. All servic-
ing should be referred to an authorized Service Center.
14. Cleaning – Unplug the subwoofer from the wall outlet
before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol
cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
15. Attachments – Do not use attachments not recom-
mended as they may cause hazards.
16. Accessories – Do not place the subwoofer on an
unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table. The sub-
woofer may fall, causing serious injury to a child or
adult and serious damage to the product. Use only with
a cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table recommended by
manufacturer or sold with the product. Any mounting of
the subwoofer should follow manufacturerʼs instructions
and should use a mounting accessory recommended by
manufacturer. A subwoofer and cart combination should
be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force and
uneven surfaces may cause the product and cart combi-
nation to overturn.
17. Lightning – For added protection for the subwoofer
during a lightning storm or when it is left unattended
and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the
wall outlet.
18. Overloading – do not overload wall outlets, extension
cords or integral convenience receptacles as this can
result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
19. Safety Check – Upon completion of any service or
repairs to this product ask the service technician to
perform safety checks to determine that the product is
in proper operating condition.
20. Replacement Parts – When replacement parts are
required, be sure the service technician has used manu-
facturer specified parts or parts with the same charac-
teristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions
may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards.
21. Wall or Ceiling Mounting – The product should be
mounted to a wall or ceiling only as recommended by
manufacturer.
22. Object and Liquid Entry – Never push objects of any
kind into this product through openings as they may
touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that
could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid
of any kind on the product.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do
not expose this appliance to rain or moisture.
CAUTION: To prevent electric shock, match wide blade of
plug to wide slot and fully insert.

RSX Through Mount© Operating Instructions
Congratulations on your purchase of the RSX Through Mount© Speakers from
Reel Acoustics. Please take a few minutes and read this manual before you start your
installation. We are confident the manual will help you make your new Reel RSX
Through Mount speakers sound as good as we expect them to!
Please remember to heed to any warnings on the product and in this Owners Manual.
Your RSX Through Mount speakers are the same surround speakers that come with the Reel Acoustics RS-1
system, with the exception of the Through Mount system. As well as being used as part of your home cinema
system, the RSX Through Mount speakers work great for offices, kitchens or anywhere indoors you want great
sound from a convenient source. All Reel Acoustics speakers are voiced to match one another. You can mix and
match any of our products and create your own Reel system. Your reseller can help with this or you can go to
www.reelacoustics.com for system suggestions.
Loudspeakers can only reproduce the signal they are fed. If you are playing a poor recording, a badly scratched
CD or DVD, or if youʼre tuned into a weak radio station, your speakers may sound distorted. If you are play-
ing your system at high volume levels, depending on the quality of your electronics, the speakers may sound
distorted. This is where you need to “trust your ears”. Your ears will give you plenty of warning if something
isnʼt right. Prolonged use under these conditions can cause damage to the mid/bass speakers, and/or the high
frequency (tweeter) drive unit.
Unpacking:
Please unpack your new speakers with care. Once out of the master carton, please look them over carefully for
any damage due to shipping. Reel Acoustics highly recommends keeping the carton in case you need to move
or ship the speaker at a later date.

Speaker Grilles:
Like the entire RS line of products, the RSX Through Mount© speakers feature removable grilles. Reel
Acoustics™ carefully chose a double knit grill cloth to help you fine-tune your system. Many companies
feature “acoustically transparent” grills. Reel Acoustics™ realizes that when speakers are placed near certain
objects, high frequencies in particular can be adversely affected. If you are looking for the ultimate perfor-
mance from your speakers, try removing one or both of the grilles. The exposed speaker(s) will yield over
a 1db gain in the high frequencies, and that speaker will sound brighter. Experimentation may yield ideal
results. For more information, consult your reseller.
Speaker Mounting:
Reel Acoustics spent great time and effort perfecting the Through Mount© system so it would be easy for
installers to use. Once you have decided where you would like the speakers placed, and have run the speaker
wire to that location, you can install the Through wall mount bracket. Each complete RSX Through Mount©
speaker with grille, and Through Mount© assemblies weighs 3.25 lbs, or 1.46 kgs. You will need to decide
what fasteners (not supplied) you will use to attach the wall mount bracket to the wall so it will stay secure.
Several types of fasteners are available. Please carefully choose the fasteners that work best for your applica-
tion.
Installing is as easy as one, two, three!
1. Using your fasteners, attach the wall mount assembly to the location where you would like the speaker
installed.
2. With the grille off, insert a screwdriver or similar device into the back hole of the Through Mount© on the
speaker to push out the "cap" on the front of the speaker. Find the supplied 2" long (5cm) Phillips head
(X head) machine screw, and insert into the hole on the front of the speaker that became exposed when you
removed the cap. With the speaker in one hand, place a Phillips screwdriver into the hole on the front of
the speaker, until the machine screw is out the back of the speaker as far as it will go. Place the speaker up
to the wall mount assembly so the machine screw mates up to the threaded insert on the wall mount
bracket and start tightening the screw. Turn the screw until you feel that the speaker is snug against the
wall mount bracket. A hand screwdriver is HIGHLY recommended for this. Please do not use a power
driver of any kind for this step!
3. Once you are convinced the speaker is snug to the wall bracket, you should have enough slack to easily
move the speaker around on any axis and adjust the positioning. Once you are happy with the position
of the speaker, tighten the screw down, re-install the cap on the front of the speaker, attach the wires
(see below) and youʼre done! You may readjust the speaker at any time by removing the cap and repeating
this step.

Under special circumstances you may need to increase the spacing of the speaker from the wall. The RSX
Through Speakers come supplied with an additional “step plate” or “spacer” to do this. This piece spaces
the wall mount unit out from the wall an additional 29mm or 1-1/8” and requires longer mounting screws or
hardware. There are tooled tabs to make sure the spacer and wall mount fit together and stay together if used.
If used, please use extra care in choosing your mounting hardware due to the extra leverage caused by moving
the speaker further out from the wall. Do not use more than the one supplied spacer.
Connecting your RSX Through Mount Speakers to your system:
Always make sure that your amplifier or receiver and any other electronics are OFF before attempting to con-
nect any speakers to your system. The back of each RSX Through Mount© speaker uses “binding posts” to
connect the speakers. In most cases, the wires can be attached by unscrewing the red and black thumb-screws
which expose a hole on the gold colored post. The wire is then carefully inserted into the hole, and the thumb-
screw is tightened back down to secure each wire. Please take care to ensure that the “+” on the amplifier is
connected to the “+” or red on the speaker. Reversing these wires, either at the receiver or amplifier, or at the
speaker itself, will not cause damage but may adversely affect the systems potential performance. The manual
that came with your receiver or amplifier will assist you in this step. If you need help—please consult your
reseller.
Reel Acoustics™ suggests a minimum 16 guage speaker wire for the RSX Through Mount© speakers. Please
note that the smaller the number referring to wire guage, the larger the wire. When selecting speaker wire,
please remember that 12 guage is larger, and 18 guage is smaller than the suggested 16 guage.
When you have completed wiring your system, turn on your receiver or amplifier but keep the volume low.
Most receivers or amplifiers have “on screen” displays to allow you to choose from different settings depend-
ing on how large your speakers are. FOR BEST RESULTS, PLEASE SET the RSX Through Mount© TO
"SMALL" SETTING! Some receivers or amplifiers have adjustable electronic crossovers instead of choosing
large or small speaker sizes. If your equipment has this, please set the crossover at 100 hz or higher.
Most amplifiers or receivers use 80hz, or 120hz as the options. If yours uses these settings, please set yours
to 120hz. Playing the RSX Through Mount© at high volumes, with the settings as “large” or set below 100hz
may cause damage to the speakers. Information below 120hz will be reproduced by your Reel powered
Subwoofer available separately from your reseller.
Once you are confident the speakers are configured correctly. Play your system at a low volume and determine
that all speakers are working. Once you have confirmed this, bring the volume up to a moderate level, and
using the manual for your receiver or amplifier, follow those instructions to take you through the rest of the
complete system setup.

Maintenance:
Very little maintenance is required. Each cabinet can be cleaned with a damp (not wet) cloth. Spray polishes
are OK, but must NEVER be sprayed directly on the mid/bass or high frequency drivers. It is best to spray the
polish directly on the cloth and then wipe down each cabinet, again being careful to avoid getting any polish
or cleaner directly on the drive unit. Each grille is removable and can be vacuumed with proper care.
Warranty
All Reel Acoustics components come with a five-year, limited warranty from the date of original retail pur-
chase. Warranty claims should always be made through your reseller first. If for any reason this cannot be
done, please contact Reel Acoustics™ at 905-567-1920 or email [email protected].
