MWS 6 Weather Station has been designed for measuring the most important
weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind
directionandwindspeed,optionallysolarenergy,UV-radiation,lightintensityand
precipitation.
All parameters can be displayed graphically, digitally or as an "instrument".
There is also a statistics and a history function.
Setting up the weather station is easy:
Mount the weather station on a 1 " pipe. Orient the North-marker to North and
clampMWS 6 inplace (Please use the wallclamp enclosed.).Take care that thepipe
is mounted as perpendicularly as possible, otherwise the windvane will not work
properly and will preferably rotate in one direction.
Another important note !!!
The wind sensors of MWS 6 weather station are very sensitive and can
easilybedestroyed.Thereforedokeepthepackingofyourweatherstation.
Ifyouwanttoshipyourweatherstationlater,thispackingguaranteesthat
the weather station is protected from damage!!
If a transport damage is caused by insufficient packing, we are not liable
for any warranty claims!!!!
Please ask for a quotation of an original packing if it is no longer available
to you.
Theweatherstationmustbesetupataplacewhichisexposedtowindandsunshine,
becauseotherwisewinddirection,windspeedand solar energy cannot bemeasured
correctly.
(Please see "Directions of Deutscher Wetterdienst")
Connect the enclosed cable as follows:
Connect the 9pole connector to a free serial interface of your PC (COM1 or COM2
under the Windows-version COM3 or COM4 as well).
Plug the power supply into a power outlet 230V / 50Hz.
Additional sensors are connected at the 8-pole connector of MWS 6. In case you use
more than one additional sensor, you need the collector for connecting additional
sensors. It is connected to MWS 6 itself and ranges the connected sensors.
The 5-pole connector is plugged into MWS 6. The weather station is ready for use
now.
Pleasenotethatyoumustinanycaseusethepowersupplieswhichwehave
provided or which are technically identical with your MWS 6 weather
station. Nominal value must be between 10 V and 13V DC voltage; it must
be possible to apply 200 mA at least. Please note also that all the power
supplies we provide are only made for use in dry rooms.

reset. Another important point is setting the local altitude because the display of
barometric pressure depends on it. You can also choose if the measuring windows
you have called up are placed automatically (window tiles) or if you want to make
these settings yourself.
For presentations you make the software execute an automatic slide show after the
program is started (also see "automatic slide show")
All settings are saved with the OK-button when the Setup menu is finished
correctly.
Click on "Window" in the menu bar and then on menu item "MeasMode Display".
Here you can choose in which windows the weather data are to be displayed.
There are three kinds of measuring windows: numbers, graphs and instruments. If
you want a digital display of the sensors, you mouse-click on the symbols above the
measuring window.
You have free choice here and are only limited by the resolution of your monitor.
Apart from that you can save any two desktops under menu item "Desktop → save"
in the Setup menu.

Software
Any program of the weather station must be started straight from the respective
directory !! Otherwise there might be inexplicable malfunctions !
MWS 6 software, DOS-version, is basically made up of two programs:
MWS_MESS.EXE(Meas-program) and MWS6.EXE (display software).
The basic part of the Windows-Version is WMWS6.EXE . The Windows-version
needs WIN3.x, WIN95 / 98 or Windows NT.
MWS_MESS.EXE is a measuring program which is memory resident. It records
datain the background and saves them tothe hard disk in 5 minutes intervals. The
interval can be set with MWSSET.EXE. When MWS_MESS.EXE is started, the
MWS-directory is searched for data which are already saved.
Missingdataare written toharddisk as empty files.Recording starts in thenormal
rhythm then.
The program stays in memory and requires about 80 KB. Before you turn off your
computer,youhavetoclosethemeasuringprogrambyenteringmws_mess/u.When
you start the software by entering "Start", this measuring program is called
automatically, when you close the graphical form, you can choose if the measuring
program is to further record data in the background or if it is closed.
Parameter for MWS_MESS.EXE:
MWS_MESS /tx :Savetheweatherdatatotheharddiskinanx-minutes-interval.
MWS_MESS /d :Multipleinstallationofthemeasuringsoftware.Thismustonly
be used if you start mws_mess.exe several times over.
This part of the program is not applicable in the Windows-version.
MWS6.EXEenables you tographically display theweather data andallows several
otherapplications,suchase.g.statisticalevaluationoftheweatherdata,historyand
control functions.
This part of the program is called WMWS6.EXE and contains MWS_MESS.EXE.
README.xxxcontainsimportantinformationwhichinpartscannotbefoundinthe

CHKMWS.EXE checks if there are errors in the weather data files.
MWS_AUTO.DAT is the control file for the automatic slide show.

With GRAF_COL.DAT you can set the desktop colours as you like.
The numbers and colours are coordinated as follows:
Foreground and background colours :
0-black, 1-blue, 2-green, 3-cyan, 4-red, 5-magenta, 6-brown, 7-light grey.
Foreground-colours:
8-dark grey, 9-light blue, 10-light green, 11- light cyan, 12-light red, 13-light
magenta, 14-yellow, 15-white
You can set this with MWSSET.EXE.
MWS2_SET.DATcontainsthesensornames,unitsanddiversecontrol parameters.
You can enter the names of the measured value windows and the units for possible
additionalsensors.Allotherparametersshouldbeleftunchanged,becauseinexpert
changes can result in a completely wrong measurement.
Please see MWS2_SET.DOK.
KLI_SCOM.DAT is a control file of the interface.
It contains the configuration values of the COM-ports.
The following values are possible:
Line 1: Entry of the data source (0..3 means COM1..4)
If you do not want to read in the weather data directly from the interface
but from a file, you just enter the path name where the weather data are
stored and not the interface identification, e.g.: F:\DATEN\WETTER.
If the data must not be written into the MWS6-directory, you enter the
desired data path after the interface identification and separate it by a
comma, e.g. for interface COM2 and data path D:\WETTER :
1,D:\WETTER.
You may need these possibilities if you use your weather station in a
network and want to have access to the weather data from several
computers.
(Please also see the readme-file!)
If you want to use the software for the history function only you enter -1
in this field. This de-activates the interface.
Line 2: Number of data bits
Line 3: Number of stop bits
Line 4: Parity
Line 5: Baud rate
Line 6: DOS-ID number (Standard 193), please change if necessary (e.g. in
networks).
Line 7: Interval for data storage to harddisk (ab V1.10).
You can also set this with MWSSET.EXE.
The storage interval can be set in a 10 seconds raster and lasts from a minimum 30
seconds to a maximum 40 minutes.

The available memory of the data collector box depends on the number of RAM-
modules(minimum1RAMmaximum8RAMswith128keach)andonthenumberof
connected sensors.
The number of connected sensors does not refer to the number of sockets which are
used but on the total of edited measured values.
Maximum number of sensors therefore is 45 (with 15 connected combined sensors
formeasuringtemperature,humidityandairpressure,althoughReinhardt-software
only supports a maximum 15 sensors).
The RAM-modules we use have 128k memory capacity. If your RAM is fully
equipped, you have a memory capacity of 1,024k.Please note that the system needs

Memory requirements can be calculated as follows:
Memory requirement in Byte = 7 + (5 * number of sensors)
Structure of a data file:
Available memory with
1RAM : 124k 1RAM : 124k
2RAMs : 252k

IfyouwanttofindoutthenumberoffileswhichcanbestoredinyourRAM,you just
divide the memory requirement of a data file by the available memory.

Temperature sensor
Temperature measurement is based on a precision PT100. The resulting measured
value is linearised by the microprocessor. By standard, the temperature sensor is
mounted on the lower side of the weather station.
Range:from -40°C to + 50 °C, measuring accuracy ±0.3 °C,(displayalso possible in
Kelvin or °Fahrenheit)
Humidity Sensor
isafastrespondingcapacitivesensor(monolithic)whichisbasedonadielectricwith
variable humidity (capacitance). In proportion to humidity the electronics create a
signal with changing frequency which is evaluated by the microprocessor. The
sensor is also mounted on the lower side of the weather station. Together with the
PT100, it is covered by a protective cover of Gore-Tex so that it does not become
polluted or destroyed by dust or insects.
Our humidity sensor can be used in a temperature range between -40 °C to + 50 °C.
It is linearized to an accuracy of 2 %.
Range: from 12 to 100 %, measuring accuracy ±2 %, display also as dewpoint
measurement in °C or °F.
Accuracy of dewpoint display is dependent on humidity and temperature. The
higher the measured values of humidity and the lower those of temperature, the
more exact is the display of dewpoint.
Maximum deviation is 1.2°C in the worst case.

This is a pyranometer which absorbs radiation between 305 and 2600 nm. Then it
measures thermically the subtraction of a black and a white surface. Two PT 1000
are the measuring sensors. Output of the measured values is in W/m2.

As we have a very comfortable, 3-fold way of measuring wind speed with current
wind speed (WG), average wind speed (WD) and wind peaks (WS), you can conform
your wind measurement to your very needs.
Please note that dependent on the current winds, the 3 different methods of
measuring wind speed can result in very differing graphs: When measuring WG,
only a current value is written in the selected measuring interval, when measuring
WD and WS, there is continuous evaluation and the whole measuring period is
monitored.
Wind direction is given in °, with 90°being East, 180°being South, 270°being West

about 275nm (UV-B). What is most particular about this sensor is how it gathers
measured values. Not only does it cover radiation from above but also the lateral
radiation.
Light Intensity Sensor (Lux-Sensor) (Option)
measures light intensity in Lux. Measuring range is from 300 nm to 720 nm.

Additional Sensor
Sensorsof any kind can be integrated as additional sensors. The informationsignal
mustbeappliedasvoltageintherangebetween0Vand+4Vorithastobeadapted
to MWS 6 by a special amplifier. Negative or higher voltages are blocked, but out of
security reasons, should be avoided in any case!
The sensor signals are linearised by software.
See Adjustment of an additional sensor (P.28).
Additional sensors can be voltage supplied by the weather station as long as its
current consumption is below 25 mA.
If current consumption exceeds this value, we cannot grant that MWS 6
weather station works properly !!!
If they need higher currents, the sensors must have an external power supply and
its ground has to be connected to the MWS 6-ground (Pin 1 of the connector socket).
You can call for adjustment instructions of the additional inputs at any time.
