TheORIONiscapableofemittingaradiosignalbetween2.404GHzand2.473GHz.TheORIONmeetsUSAFCC
transmissionrequirementsandhasbeenCEmarked,however,itistheresponsibilityoftheusertopracticegoodsafety
procedures.Indoingso,youshouldtakethefollowingprecautions:
oDonotpointtheantennaataperson’seyesorhead.
oMaintainadistanceofatleast20cmbetweentheantennaandthebodyoftheuserornearbypersons
oDonotleavetheantennaincloseproximitytoanypartofthebodyformorethan5minutes.
oDonotusenearflammablefluidsorexplosivesorinanyareawheretheuseofradiocommunicationsequipment
isprohibited.

TheORION2.4hasbeendesignedforquickandeasydeployment.Dependingonyourapplication,some
adjustmentstothedefaultsettingmayneedtobemade.
BatteryUsage
Lithium‐Ionrechargeablebatterieshavebeenincludedwithyourunit.
Toinsertorswitchoutanewbattery:
1. Whilepressingthelatchonthebottomofthegriphousingunit,raisethebatterydooratthe
rearoftheunit.
2. Slidethebatteryintothebatteryslotobservingpropercontactalignmentuntilitlatchesinto
place.
3. Closethebatterydoor.
TheORION2.4hasabuilt‐inbatterycharger.Tochargethebatteryintheunit:
1. Whilepressingthelatchonthebottomofthegriphousingunit,raisethebatterydooratthe
rearoftheunit.
2. Withthebatteryalreadyinsertedintheunit,connecttheprovidedACadaptertothejack
locatedjustabovethebatteryslotandtoanACsource.Thebatterywillbeginchargingas
indicatedbytheblinkingsegmentsonthegaugevisibleontheendofthebattery.Whenthe
gaugeisfull,thebatteryisfullycharged.TheOLEDdisplayontheheadwillalsoshowthe
batterychargestatus.

compartment
2. Rotatetheheadforeasyviewing
3. Ifpreferred,extendthetelescopingpoletoaconvenientlength
Procedure
WhentheORION2.4isturnedon,itautomaticallysearchesforandselectsthequietestfrequencies
availableintheambientenvironment.Theoperatormayalsomanuallyselectfrequencies.Twotest
tagsareincludedwiththeORION2.4.Oneisasemiconductordiodetosimulateanelectronicdevice.
Thesecondisasteelwoolpack,tosimulateacorrosivemetal‐to‐metaljunction.Thesetagscanbeused
toverifytheproperoperationoftheORION2.4.
TherearetwobasicprocedurestousinganyNon‐LinearJunctionDetector:
1. Detectinganon‐linearjunctionand
2. Discriminatingbetweenelectronicsandfalsedetection
TheORION2.4canbeconfiguredmultiplewaystoaidinthesetwoprocesses.

TheTransmitPowerLevelmayneedtobeadjusteddependingonseveralfactors,includingthetargetor
detectionrange.
TomanuallyadjusttheTransmitPowerLevel:
1. RepeatedlypresstheUpArrowbuttontoincreasethetransmitpower.TheTX1GreenBar
graphwillincreasecorrespondingtotheincreaseintransmitpower.TheOLEDDisplayabove
thebargraphswilldisplaythenumericalvalueofthetransmitpowerlevel.
2. RepeatedlypresstheDownArrowbuttontodecreasethetransmitpower.TheTX1GreenBar
graphwilldecreasecorrespondingtothedecreaseintransmitpower.TheOLEDDisplayabove
thebargraphswilldisplaythenumericalvalueofthetransmitpowerlevel.
Note:Wheneveramenuisonthescreen,theUpArrowandDownArrowserveasnavigationkeysforthe

Auto/ManualTransmit
TheORION2.4canbeoperatedineitherautotransmitmodeormanualtransmitmode.Inauto
transmitmode,thetransmitpowerwillautomaticallyreducewheneverthereceiverbecomessaturated.
InManualtransmitmode,thetransmitpowerremainsatthesamelevelunlessitismanuallychanged.
TotogglebetweenAutoTransmitmodeandManualTransmitMode:
1. Withtheuniton&withtheTransmitPoweradjustedsothattheTransmitPowerisnotOFF,
pressandreleasethePowerbutton.
VolumeLevel
InadditiontobargraphsandtheOLEDdisplay,whichgivevisualcueswheneverahiddenelectronic
targetisdetected,theORION2.4alsohasseveralaudiomodes,whichgiveaudiocueswhenevertargets
aredetected.Fordetailsontheaudiomodes,seetheappropriatesectionslaterinthisUser’sManual.
Theseaudiocuescanbereceivedeitherthroughtheprovidedspeakerontheunit,throughheadphones,
orthroughthewirelessheadphonereceiver.

displayed.
4. PresstheUporDownArrowtobeginscrollingthroughtheLevel1Sub‐Items.
5. Arightarrownexttothenameofamenuitemindicatesanothersub‐levelofmenuitems.To
accessthatsub‐menu,presstheRightArrowbutton.
6. Anymenuitemwithoutarightarrownexttothenameorthatisdisplayedwithalitbackground
isasetting.PresstheSETbuttontoactivatethatsetting.
