2.TheinstallationmustconformwiththeNationalFuelGasCode,ANSIZ223.1,NaturalGas
InstallationCode,CAN/CGA-B149.1orthePropaneInstallationCode,CAN/CGA-B149.2,as
applicableincluding:
a.Theapplianceanditsindividualshutoffvalvemustbedisconnectedfromthegassupply
pipingsystemduringanypressuretestingofthatsystemattestpressureinexcessof1/2
NPT(3.45kPa).
b.Theappliancemustbeisolatedfromthegassupplypipingsystembyclosingits
individualmanualvalveduringanypressuretestingofthegassupplypipingsystemat
testpressuresequalorlessthan1/2psig(3.45kPa).
3.Localregulationsgoverninggasapplianceinstallationsmustbecompliedwith.
4.Equipmentshouldbeinanareawithadequateventilation.
5.Minimumspacingof6”tocombustibleconstructionisrequiredalongbackandsidewalls.
Clearancefornoncombustibleconstructionarethesameascombustibleclearances.Foruse
onlyonnoncombustibleoors.
6.Materialssuchaswood,compressedpaperandplantbersthatwilligniteandburn,must not
be exposed near this unit.Localsafetycodesshouldbecompliedwithinrespecttorehazard
avoidance.
7.Use of the supplied pressure regulator is mandatory.Note:useoftworegulatorsmaycause
insufcientgasow.Consultwithyourinstallerbutalwayscomplywithabovecodes.
8.Keeptheapplianceareafreeandclearfromcombustiblematerials,gasolineandother
ammablevaporsandliquids.
9.Locatethisapplianceinawellventilatedplace.Do not block or cover the opening between
the shroud and pot. Do not obstruct ow of combustion and ventilation air.
10.Thisunitmustbeinstalledwithadequateclearanceforservicingandproperoperation.
11.Thisunitshouldbeoperatedonlywithdrippaninplace.
12.Iftheunitisconnectedtoaexiblegasline,theinstallationshallbemadewithaconnector
thatcomplieswiththeStandardConnectorsforMovableGasAppliances,ANSIZ21.69or
ConnectorsforMovableGasAppliances,CAN/CGA-06.16,andaQuickDisconnect,device
thatcomplieswiththestandardforQuickDisconnectDevicesforUsewithGasFuel
ANSIZ21.41,orQuickDisconnectDevicesforusewithGasFuel,CAN1-6.9,andadequate
meansmustbeprovidedtolimitthemovementoftheappliancewithoutdependingon
connectorandthequickdisconnectdeviceoritsassociatedpipingtolimittheappliance
movement.
13.Beforeconnectinggascheckthatgasvalveontheapplianceisturned“off”(gasvalvehandlein
verticalposition.)
14.Checkforleaksusingsoapywaterorothersuitableleakdetector.Rinseoffthesoapywater

Alwaysfollowtheselightingandshutdowninstructionswhenlightingyourricecooker.Aveminute
completeshutoffperiodisrequiredbeforelightingorrelightingpilot.Checkforgasleaksbeforerelighting
unit.Usesoapywaterorothersuitableleakdetector.Rinseoffthesoapywateraftertesting.
NoticetoInstaller:Thefollowingmustbeperformedtoinsureproperoperation.
1.RemovePot,OuterJacket,andDripTray.
2.Turngasvalveto“ON”positionasingure2below.
3.Gentlypushonthe#2COOKbutton.Itshouldstophalfwaydownandnotengage.Thisis
asafetyfeaturethatdoesnotallowaccidentalstartofthemainburnerunlessthepilotbuttonhas
alreadybeenpushed.
4.Pushtheleftbuttonmarked#1STARTdownuntilyouhearaclick,thenreleaseit.Thisisthe
ignitionleverandthepilotshouldlight.TheredbuttonmarkedWARMcontrolsthepilotandis
hiddenbythe#1STARTbuttonwhenoff.Pushingthe#1STARTbuttonalsodepressedthe
WARMbutton,exposingit.Itwillstaydownuntilpusheduptoextinguishthepilot.Ifthepilot
hasnotlit,repeatuntilpilotlights.
5.Ifpilotfailstoremainlit,seeTroubleShooting.
6.ReplacethePot,OuterJacket,andDripTrayintheirproperorder.Withthepilotlit,pushthe
#2COOKbuttondowntoitspositionwithoutwaterinthepot.Thericecookershouldshutoff
within3to4minutes.Ifitfailstoshutoff,pushthe#2COOKbuttonuptoitsoffpositionand
seeTroubleShooting.Ifitshutsoffnormally,addagallonofwaterandwaitforthe“click”
soundindicatingthatthesensorhasreset.Withthepilotlit,againpressthe#2COOKbutton.
Thericecookershouldboilthepotdryandthenshutoff.Ifitfailstoshutoffnormally,pushthe
#2COOKbuttonuptoitsoffpositionandseeTroubleShooting.
SHUTDOWN:Whenremovingthepot,makesuretopushtheredbuttonWARMuntilitclicksandishid-
denbythestartbutton.Itistheninthe“OFF”position.Aveminutecompleteshutoffperiodisrequired
beforelightingorrelightingpilot.
WARNING:Whenignitingthepilot,positiontheJacketWindowdirectlyover#1STARTand#2COOK
buttons.Donotbetooclosetotheviewingholewhenigniting.

Toinstalltheprovidedpressureregulator:
a.Locategassupplyforthericecooker.InstallationmustcomplywiththeNationalcodesso
thereshouldbeashutoffvalveonthegassupplylinetothericecooker.
b.Installthesuppliedpressureregulatorattheendoftherearconnectionmanifold.Anarrow
onthebodyofthepressureregulatorindicatesthedirectionofthegasow.Thearrowmust
bepointinginthedirectiontothericecooker.Thericecookerwillnotoperateifthe
regulatorisimproperlyinstalled.
c.Ifrequired,installthesupplysideofthequickdisconnecthose(providedbyothers)tothe
regulatorperthemanufacturer’sinstructions.
d.Check your installation for leaks with an approved leak detector. Besuretouseapproved
materialsonthepipethreadstopreventgasleaks.
When appropriate, light the rice cooker and check for proper operation.

alsandworkmanship,subjecttothetermsspeciedbelow.Thiswarrantyislimitedtopartsreplacement
anddoesnotincludeanylaborallowance.Anyservicechargesorchargesforpartsreplacementareyour
responsibility.
TownwarrantstheRM-55andRM-50tobefreeofdefectsinmaterialsorworkmanshipforaperiodofsix
months.ThewarrantyperiodshallcommenceattimeofshipmentfromTown.Thewarrantyperiodmay
beextended,atTown’soption,ifproofofinstallation(specifyingmodelandserialnumber)atalaterdate,
butinnocaseshallwarrantybeextendedbeyondninemonthsafterdateofshipmentfromTown.
PartsandlaborarecoveredforthewarrantyperiodforproperlypackedunitsreturnedtoTownprepaid.
Towncannotberesponsibleforshippingdamagestoanyunitreturnedwithimproperpackaging.Partsthat
havefailedduetodefectivematerialsorworkmanshipwillbereplacedatnocharge.Unitsrepairedunder
warrantywillbereturnedfreightprepaid.Warrantyforthenewpartswillbefortheremainderoftheorigi-
nalwarrantyperiod.
Thiswarrantydoesnotcoveranyfailuresoroperatingdifcultiesduetoaccident,abuse,misuse,alteration,
misapplication,improperinstallationorimpropermaintenanceorservice.
Towndoesnotauthorizeanypersonorcompanytoassumeonitsbehalfanyobligationorliabilityincon-
nectionwiththisunitinanymatterwhatsoever.
Ifwarrantyservicebecomesnecessary,bringtheunittothedealerwhosoldyoutheunit.Requestthemto
carefullypacktheunit.Besuretoinsulatetheenameljacketfromthericepot.Ifthepotisallowedtocon-
tacttheenameljacketduringshipment,itwillbecomechipped.Ifthebaseisnotproperlypackeditmay
becomedented.Townwillchargeforrepairstounitsreturnedduetoabuseforanyreason.
Thereturningagencyisentitledtorequestfromthepurchaserthecostsofshippingandhandlingchargesto

thorization(RGA)number.BeadvisedthisRGAisonlyauthorizationtoreturnyourunitforevaluation.
NocreditofanykindmaybetakenarisingfromanRGA.Yourunitwillbeinspectedtoverifythedif-
cultyforwhichitwasreturned.Oncethedifcultyisveried,itwillberepairedandtheunitreturnedat
nochargeifduetofaultymaterialsand/orworkmanship.Ifdefectiveforanyotherreason,theunitwillbe
repairedandthecustomerchargedforthecostofthelaborandmaterialsfortherepairplusreturndelivery
costs.

Pushthe#1Startbuttontolightthepilot.Verifyignitionofthepilotthroughthejacketwindow.Pushthe#2Cookbut-
tonandlightthemainburner.Verifyignitionofthemainburnerthroughthejacketwindow.Addtheoil.Thereshould
besufcientoiltocoverthebottomofthericepot.Allowtheoiltoheat.
Thesensorinthebottomofthepotisdesignedtoturnthericecookeroffwhenitsensesthewaterinthepotisgone.
Theoilinthebottomofthepotisbeingheatedbytheburnerandwillsurpassthetemperatureofboilingwater.Atthis
pointthesensorwillmakea“click”soundand“pop”intoitsexpandedpositionasthetemperatureofboilingwaterhas
beenexceeded.Thiscausesthe#2Cookbuttontojumptotheoffpositionandtheburnerwillshutoff.
MexicanRiceisfriedbeforeliquidsareadded.Theoilmustbeatfryingtemperature,about375ºF.Todothis,pushthe
#2Cookbuttononceagaintocontinueheatingtheoil.BEWARE:theautomaticshutofffeatureofthesensorisnow
disabledandtheunitwillnotshutoffautomatically.Toturnoffthemainburneronemustliftthe#2cookbutton.
Heattheoiltofryingtemperature.Addgrainsofricetotestthetemperatureoftheoil.Whenthetestgrainsofrice
sizzleandturnwhite,addthebalanceoftherice.Frythericebyallowingittocookfor30seconds,thenmixthorough-
ly.Letitfryforanadditional30seconds,thenmixagain.Repeatthisprocessuntilthericebeginsto‘cashew’orhavea
lightbrowncolor,about7-10minutes.
Afterthericeisstartedtochangecolor,addthegarlicandstirforonemoreminute.Atthispointmakesuretoweara
heatresistantmittasthepotisveryhotandtheliquidsabouttobeaddedwillvaporizequicklyandonecanbescalded.
Stirincrushedtomatoesandfryforonemoreminute.Turnofftheburnerbyraisingthe#2Cookbuttontoitsoffposi-
tion.Addthebalanceoftheingredientsandstirtomix.About4-5minutesafteryoushutoffthemainburner,listenfor
a“click”soundindicatingthesensorhasresettoitsoriginalshaperestoringitsautomaticcapabilities.
Relightthemainburnerbypushingdownthe#2Cookbutton.Verifyignitionthroughthejacketwindow.Theunitwill
nowcookthericeandautomaticallyshutoffwhenthericeisdone,about15minutes.Whentheunitshutsoff,allowthe
riceto“cure”undisturbedinthericecookerfor10minutes.Thenmixandservetherice.
Tip:usethericecookertobraisethechicken.Thebraisedchickenaddsavortothericewhenfriedinthesamepot.
NOTE:Consistencyofricewillvarydependingonamountofchickenstockused.Forveryspicyriceaddadditional
jalapeñostotaste.Becreative...youmayaddpeas,corn,ornelychoppedbellpeppers.Buenoprovecho!
