Thank you for purchasing the Ricoh RDC-5000 digital camera. The RDC-5000 is a state-of-the-art
digital camera designed to make it easy for you to capture high resolution digital images.
Please follow these quick start tips to begin taking picture right away. You may wish to watch
the enclosed video tape and refer to your camera’s user manual for more detailed information.
Also, take a moment to complete the enclosed registration card so we can keep you informed of
important product updates. Enjoy.

!Press “PIC” to select the resolution and compression.
!Use the or button to zoom your subject in or out.
!Gently press “SHUTTER RELEASE” half way down to set the exposure
and focus. Gently press all the way down to take a picture.

!Rotate the mode dial to the “SET-UP” position.
!Use the or to select “date setting”.
!Press “DISPLAY” to choose the date format.
!Press “ENTER” to change the date.
!Use the or button to set the date.
!Rotate the mode dial to .
!Press the or button to view your pictures.

!Press the or button to select the erase mode and press “ENTER”.
!If you selected ERASE SINGLE IMAGE:
Press the or button to select the image you wish to delete and
push “SHUTTER RELEASE”.
!If you selected ERASE ALL IMAGES:
Press “SHUTTER RELEASE”.
!If you selected ERASE SELECTED IMAGES:
Press the or button to select the images you wish to delete and
push “ENTER” to tag them for deletion.
Press “SHUTTER RELEASE” to erase the tagged images.

Connecting the camera via serial cable
!Refer to your Software Description Sheet for system requirements.
!Open the camera’s terminal cover and insert the small end of the supplied
USB cable into the camera’s terminal.
!Connect the other end of the cable to your computer’s USB port or hub.
!When prompted for the USB driver, insert your software CD and point to
the proper folder. (Refer to your Software Installation Sheet for details)
!Once the drives are installed, you may access your camera as a disk drive.
!Refer to your Software Description Sheet for system requirements and installation procedures.
!Windows - Install Photobase from your software CD.
!Macintosh - Install Camera Utility for RDC-5000 from your software CD.
!Launch PhotoBase and click on the “DOWNLOAD” icon .
!Select the correct serial port for your system. A preview of the
image will be displayed in the download window.
!Use the arrow buttons to see the other images currently stored
in the camera.
!Use the Current Frame check box to select images to download.
!Turn off the camera and shut down your computer.
!Open the camera’s terminal cover and insert the small end of the supplied serial cable into
the camera’s terminal.
!Connect the other end of the serial cable to an available COM port on your computer.
(Macintosh user’s, first attach the supplied Mac adapter to the serial cable))
!Boot your system then turn on the camera’s power.
!Rotate the camera’s mode dial to the “PC” position.
!The camera’s monitor will read “Transmit”.
!Launch Camera Utility for RDC-5000 and set the
communication port for your system.
!The “COPY FROM CAMERA” dialog box will appear.
!To download the image displayed on the camera’s monitor,
click the “SELECT” check box.
!Use the arrow buttons to see the other images .
!When the desired images are selected, click on “COPY
SELECTED IMAGES”.
!You may then select a destination folder for the images.
