Rivera Shaman Series User manual

Rivera Shaman Series Overdrive Pedals Owners Manual
Your Rivera® Shaman™ series effects pedal was designed and built for discerning and professional musicians. Constructed
of stainless steel with long-life heavy-duty footswitches, and built internally with costly audiophile quality components, these
pedals are at home in any environment, whether onstage or in the studio. All three are compact with a small footprint, and
have striking graphic finishes and LED function indicators. We have engineered this product for a long lifetime of continuous
use. With simple precautions and proper handling, you can help maintain the performance and great looks for years to come.
Rivera’s Blues Shaman™, Double Shaman™, and Metal Shaman™ are uniquely voiced to give guitarists near-mystical
control over tone and overdrive, responding to the player’s dynamics and articulation. All three are voiced for specific
distortion/overdrive tones, and feature true-bypass footswitching that eliminates coloration to the instrument’s signal when
they’re not activated. Sophisticated low-noise circuits ensure tone integrity, and all controls have a musical and linear feel to
their function.
Blues Shaman™
The Blues Shaman™ emulates the tonal and dynamic
range of a small Class A tube amp, with buttery warmth
and soft clipping in its overdrive. Its Ascension footswitch
delivers feisty gain boost, and its Tone control shapes
highs while retaining beefy lows. Further tone shaping
comes by flipping the Stack/ Combo switch, which
emphasizes tones characteristic of compact, open-
backed amps or large-volume closed-back speaker
stacks.
Quick Start: Plug the input jack of the pedal into your
guitar, and plug the output jack of the pedal into the input
of your amplifier or recording equipment. Start with the
knobs in the 12 o'clock position, and the Combo-Stack
switch set in Combo. Plug in the AC Adaptor, or if you
have already installed a battery (not supplied from the
factory), skip this step. Make sure the Ascension™
switch is off. Set the level so that when the pedal is on or bypassed, there is the same sound level. Now adjust the tone and
gain to taste. Use the Ascension™ switch to boost the gain and overdrive. Use the Stack-Combo switch to alter the bottom
end tone to your taste
Dual Shaman™
With two individual footswitch-selectable voices, the
Double Shaman™ offers a vast range of versatile tones,
providing distinct, separate texture ranges via its two
“destinations,” Austin (for a modern blues-rock vibe) and
LA (classic ’80s rock overdrive). Each destination
includes its own controls for Level, Tone, and Drive, plus
a Stack/Combo selector for maximum sonic flexibility.
Quick Start: Plug the input jack of the pedal into your
guitar, and plug the output jack of the pedal into the input
of your amplifier or recording equipment. Start with the
knobs in the 12 o'clock position. Plug in the AC Adaptor,
or if you have already installed a battery (not supplied
from the factory), skip this step. Set the Level controls on
either channel so that when the pedal is on or bypassed,
there is the same sound level. Now adjust the Tone and
Drive to taste on either the Austin or LA channel. Now
adjust the Level controls to achieve the level difference desired between bypass and on. The Stack setting allows you to fatten
up your Strat or Tele. Want to tighten up your Humbucker? Flip to Combo mode.

Metal Shaman™
Voiced for aggression, the Metal Shaman™ provides a
more overdriven range of textures than its two
Shaman™ siblings. Along with controls for Bass, Mid,
High, and Gain, it features a Brutality™ switch for
widening the bottom end and creating a bigger “aural
picture.” The Disintegrate™ footswitch allows an extra
jolt of killer gain boost with expanded harmonics, and
the Level control sets the overall output. A switch-
bypassable noise gate with controls for Sensitivity, and
Release tames noise that can accompany bare-
knuckled amounts of overdrive and distortion.
Quick Start: Plug the Input jack of the pedal into your
guitar, and plug the utput jack of the pedal into the
input of your amplifier or recording equipment. Start with
the knobs in the 12 o'clock position. Plug in the AC
Adaptor, or if you have already installed a battery (not
supplied from the factory), skip this step. Now press the Bypass switch so that the Blue LED is on, and make sure the
Disintegrate™ function is off, as well as the Noise Gate switch is in the bypass position. Adjust the EQ controls-Low, Mid,
and High for your desired tone. Adjust the Gain control for the desired distortion. Adjust the Level control so that when the
pedal is on, it is the desired level change from when it is bypassed. Now flip the Noise Gate Bypass switch to the on position
(up) Adjust the Sensitivity and Release controls to quiet the pedal when you are not playing. For a faster gate, keep the
Sensitivity control down and the Release control up. When the Noise Gate is engaged, the small green LED will illuminate,
and it is controlled by the dynamics of your playing and the settings of the Sensitivity and Release controls. Use the
Disintegrate™ Switch to boost the gain and add overdrive. Use the Brutality™ switch to add girth and bottom end as well as
more gain.

Warnings
Always use high quality shielded cables for your signal
connections. Never use unshielded or speaker cables. Do not
expose this product to any moisture. If cleaning is necessary,
use a damp cloth with either alcohol or a gentle solution such
as an ammonia-free window cleaner to wipe dust or dirt from
the knobs, control panels, or housing. Knobs and the
potentiometers are the most susceptible to road damage.
Transport is where most damage occurs, like using a bag with
many cables and pedals for your gig to gig convenience-but
not a safe idea. Either use the box the pedal came in for
storage and or transport, or mount it to a pedal board if using
more than one pedal. Another possible solution is to use a
briefcase or flight case for transport, with a foam insert cut so
that the pedal(s) fit snugly and safely and their knobs are not
exposed to damage in transit. Please use a regulated and high
quality 9V and or a high quality AC Adaptor (see below).
External Power Suppl
Please use a high quality regulated 9 VDC adaptor. Please
observe the correct polarity of the coaxial plug as indicated on
the back of the Rivera Shaman series pedal. Power supply
adaptors of poor quality can possibly introduce to the pedal a
variety of spurious and interfering noises such as hum, hiss,
RF (Radio Frequencies), and oscillations. If the noise of the
pedal is greater with the adaptor than with a battery, the
adaptor should not be used and a replacement should be
sourced.
Batter Installation and Replacement
To access the battery location, remove the (4) Phillips head
machine screws located on the top of the pedal, and the (4)
Philips Head screws located on the bottom of the pedal. These
screws hold the bottom cover to the top chassis which houses
the electronics. If you misplace or lose one or more of the
screws, they can be replaced by a 6-32 x ¼” Philips head
machine screw. Inside of your Rivera Shaman series pedal is
a battery holder and a battery clip. The clip is taped to the
inside of the metal housing from the factory, and if you wish to
use a battery, just lift off the tape, snap the clip onto the 9V
Battery, and place the battery into the holder mounted on the
side of the bottom cover. You can leave the battery in place if
you use an external AC adaptor. Please be careful to inspect
the battery from time to time to make sure it is not leaking. Best
to use a high quality 9V battery like a Duracell Alkaline, or
Ultralife Lithium for longest battery life as well as a long storage
life. Please disconnect your cables from the input when not
using the pedal, as the battery life will be extended. When you
use an external AC adaptor, there is a switching contact in the
DC Jack that disconnects the battery. This means that if the
cables are left in, such as on a pedal board, and the DC Jack
has a plug inserted (from an AC adaptor) into it, the battery is
not connected and the pedal is not drawing current from it.
