2‐Safety
1. Duringanyworkonnon‐horizontalcomponents,themachinemustalwaysbesecuredwiththe
suppliedsafetychain.
2. Themagneticdrillingmachinemayonlybeusedonaflatandcleansurface.
3. Ifthemachineortheleadshowssignsofdamage,themagneticdrillingmachinemustbeswitched
offimmediately.
4. Wearingsafetyglasses,hearingprotectionandprotectiveclothingisnecessary.
5. Donotwearanylooseclothingorjewelrythatmaygetentangledinthemovingpartsofthe
magneticdrillingmachine.
6. UseonlyaccessoriesorpartsthatarerecommendedbyRotec.
7. Duringdrilloperations,theholecuttermustbecooledandlubricatedwithgoodqualitycuttingor
lubricationoil.
8. Themotormustbeswitchedoffwhentighteningthemachinewiththesafetychain.
9. Whenchangingaholecutter,themagneticdrillingmachinemustbedisconnectedfrompower
supply.
10. Cleantheareaaroundthemachineregularly.Keepthebottomofthemagnetcleananddry.
11. Regularlyinspectwhetherallscrews,nutsandboltsaretight.
12. Removetheburrorslugfromtheholecutteraftereachhole.Caution,thedrillmightstillbehot!
13. Beforeusingthemachinemakesureitisconnectedtothecorrectvoltageandthatallgripsand
partsaretightlyattached.
14. Whenusingthedrillonnon‐horizontalsurfaces,youmustuseadrillingcompoundorcuttingpaste.
15. Donotuseoilbecausetheoilcandripintothemotorunit.
Whenusingthismachine,youMUSTwearearandeyeprotection.
Rotechasincludedthesearticlesasstandardaccessoriesforyourown
safety.DoNOTtouchthedrillwhenitisrunning.Alwaysfollowthe
recommendationsforpersonalprotectionwhenusingthistool.
Beforeuse

Rotecmagnetdrillingmachinesarespecificallydesignedfordrillingholesinsteel,expandedbythe
possibilityoftapping/reaming/countersinking(RTC.50‐T).Rotecmagneticdrillingmachinesarenotsuitable
forapplicationsotherthanthosetheyweredesignedfor,includingdrivingothermachines.
Makesurethatyoucanoverseetheentireworkareafromwhereyouareoperatingthismachine.Use
barrierstokeepothersaway.Donotusethemachineinplacessubjecttohazardofexplosion‐electrical
toolsproducesparkswhichmayigniteflammablematerialsorgasses.Topreventelectricalshocks,donot
usethemachineinamoistorwetenvironment.Alwaysoperatethistoolusingbothhands.Makesurethe
workpieceisalwaysclampeddownsafety.
Thismagneticdrillingmachineisequippedwithaleadandplugapprovedforthecountryorregionitisto
beusedin.Theyellow‐greenwireintheleadistheearthwire.Neverconnectthistoapoleundervoltage.
AllRotecmagneticdrillingmachinesaremanufacturedtousewithACcurrentandnotsuitabletoworkon
DCcurrent.Makesurethemagneticdrillingmachineisconnectedtoastablepowersupply.Rotecdoesnot
recommendtheuseofageneratororothermobilepowersupplyforpowersupply.Rotecdoesnot
recommendtheuseofextensioncables.Ifthereisnootherway,usegoodqualitycablesandkeep
extensioncablesasshortaspossible.Beawarethatlongpowerleadscauselesscurrent.

Rotecrecommendstheuseofcoolingandlubricationagents.Notonlydotheseassist
indrillingbuttheywillalsolengthenthelifespanofyourtools.Oneoftheadvantages
oftheuseofholecuttersisthatcoolingandlubricationagentscanbesuppliedfrom
theinside,sothattheagentsendupintherightplace.
AllmagneticdrillingmachinesfromRoteccanbeequippedwithanautomaticcooling
systemwhichprovidesaguaranteedsupplyofthecoolingandlubricationagentsfrom
theinside.Ifyourmachineisnotequippedwithanautomaticcoolantsystemitisstill
possibletocoolfromtheinsidebyusingtheholesintheMorseTaper(number1in
picture)bysquirtingthecoolingandlubricationagentthroughthemandfillingthe
MorseTaper.
NOTE: Forverticalorupside‐downprocessing,Rotecrecommendstheuseofadrilling
compoundorpastelike901.4045or901.4046.

MorseTaperAssembly
MounttheMorseTaperintoyourmachinebypushingitfirmlyintotheshaftextendingfromthemotor
unit.BewarethatthetipontopoftheMorseTaperisinlinewiththeshaft.TotaketheMorseTaperout
usetheEjectorPintoforceitout.

CleantheinnerwallandtheshaftoftheHoleCuttertoensureproperoilsupply.
FirstinsertthePilotPinintothecenterholeoftheShank.Afterthatyoucanslide
theHoleCutterassemblyintothespindleorMorseTaperofyourMagneticDrilling
Machine.AfterslidingtheHoleCutterAssemblyintotheMorseTaper,makesure
thetwoflatsurfaces(number5inpicture)arelocatedexactlyinfrontofthetwo
fixingscrewsofyourspindle(seenumber2inpictureofcooling/lubrication.Tighten
thembothsubsequentlywiththeincluded5mmAllenKey.

Theoptionofmakingourmachinessuitablefortheuseofstandardspiraldrillsandothertoolsbyusinga
cylindricalshaftisanimportantcharacteristicofRotecmagneticdrillingmachines.Pleaseseethetechnical

4‐TheMagneticDrillingMachine
TheMagneticbase
Materialofminimum10mmthicknessisrequiredforthemagnettoworkthebest.
Theattachmentforcegeneratedbythemagnetdependsonvariousfactors.
‐Thicknessofthematerialthemagnetisplacedon
‐Paintorcoatingofthematerialthemagnetisplacedon.
‐Metalchips,oilorotherdirtunderthemagnet.
IftheLEDindicatorlightsupGREEN,themagnetisgeneratingsufficientattachmentforce.IftheLED
indicatorlightsupRED,themagnetmaynotgeneratingsufficientattachmentforce.
Wewouldliketopointoutthatthisisonlyanindicationandnotacertainlythatthemagnetwillnot
releasefromthematerial.Rotecacceptsnoliabilityensuringfromthemagnetindicatornotfunctioning
orfunctioningpoorly.
Makesurethatthemagnetattachestightlytotheworkpiecebeforeturningonthemotorunitofthe
magneticdrillingmachine.Rotecmagnetshave2coils;makesurethatbothcoilsareincontactwiththe
material.Donotconnectanyothermachinestotheelectricaloutletthemagneticdrillingmachineis
pluggedinto,asitmayresultinthelossofmagneticforce.Alwaysusethesafetychainincluded.Drilling
aboveyourheadisextremelydangerousandisnotrecommended.Fortheuseofmagneticdrilling
machinesonpipes,not‐flatornon‐magneticmaterials,werefertoourbrochureorourwebsite
www.Rotec.comwhereseveralvacuumtighteningsystemsandpipeclampingsystemsarementioned.

ContinuouselectronicTorqueprotection:
TheRTC.50Tisequippedwithaall‐timeelectronictorqueprotection.Itwillstopthemotorunitwhenitgets
overloadedinanyrpm.InthatcasejustpushtheOFFswitchtoresetandONswitchtostartdrillingagain.
ContinuouselectronicTemperatureprotection:
TheRTC.50Tisequippedwithaall‐timeelectronictemperatureprotection.Ifthetemperatureofthemotorunitruns
upto70DegreeCelsiusthemotorunitwillstop.Afterafewminutesitcanbestartedagainandwerecommendto
letthemotorrununloadedwiththeelectronicspeedadjustmentseton100%toletthemotorunitcooldown.
!!!IMPORTANT!!!
Whenusingyourmagneticdrillingmachinenon‐horizontalorupside‐downbeaware
thatnooil,drillingcompoundormetalchipscanfallintothemotorunit.
Rotecacceptsnoresponsibilityfordamagedonetoyourmachine
bysuchactionundercoverageofthewarranty.
Drilling
Nowthatyouhavereadtheexplanatoryinformationandsafetyrecommendationsabove,youarereadyto
actuallystartdrilling.Followthese10stepsforbestdrillingresult:

1Usethetipofthepilotpintodeterminethecenteroftheholetobedrilled.
2Turnthemagnetonandverifythatthedrillisintherightpositionandthatthemachineis
pushedtightagainsttheworkpiece.`
3Ifyourmachineisequippedwithaautocoolantsystem,putopenthevalvetoreleasetheoil.
Ifyourmachinedoesnothaveaautocoolantsystem,filltheholesofthespindlewithoil.
4Turnthemotoronatthehighestsettingandallowittorunatfullspeed.
5Turnthearmstostartdrilling.Applyonlyaslightpressurewhentheholecuttertouchthe
metal.Donotpushtheholecutterwithforceintothemetal.
6Applyaregularpressurewhiledrilling.Thedrillingperformancedoesnotimprovebyputting
morepressureonthetool.Toomuchpressurewilloverloadthemotorandyourholecutter
willbewornsooner.Letthecutterdothejobandgiveittimetocutthemetal!!!
7Adjusttheoilsupplywhennecessary,ifyourdrilldoesnothaveaautocoolantsystem,stop
drillingregularly,refilltheholesofthespindleandcontinuedrilling.
8Applylesspressurewhenthedrillcutsthroughthematerial.
9Turnthearmstoputthemotorinhighestpositionandturnoffthemotorunit.
10Removetheburr,metalchipsandcleanthecutterandsurfacewithoutgettinginjuries.
Caution:Themetalpiecedrilledoutcanbesharpandveryhot!!
TheRTC.50‐Thavea2‐speedgearboxandaelectronicspeedadjustment.Topreventheatbuild‐upalwaystryto
keeptheelectronicspeedadjustmentashighaspossible.Usetheuppergear(high)forholecuttersupto20mm
andthelowergearforholecuttersabove20mm.TheRTC.50‐Thaveafullyelectronicmotorunitwhichmeasuresits
speedcontinuouslytohavethemaximumpoweravailable.WhenyoustartdrillingtheRPMcangodownfora
momentuntilthemachineitselfwillincreasetheRPM.Thisiscompletelynormal.
Toselectanothergear,turnoffthemotorunitandthemainpower.Pushtheblackswitchonthesideofthegearbox
andslideittotheotherposition.Aslightturnoftheoutputshaftbyhandwhileslidingtheblackswitchtotheother
position,canbenecessarytolineupthegearsinside.Proofthatthegearislockediftheblackswitchcomesbackto
front.
Tapping50T
Drilltheholeontherecommendedsizeofthetap.Donotturnthemagnetofftokeepthemachineonitsposition.
Takethecutteroutanduseatapcollettofixthetaptothemachine.TheseadaptersexistinseveralDINandISO
normsandarebasedontheshaftdiameterofthetapthatisused.Usethelowgearandlowrpmfortapping.Stop
themachinemanuallybeforethetapiscompletelythroughthehole.SelecttheReverse(Left)andletthetaprun
backslowlybutalsosupporttherunbackbyturningbackthehandles.Donotletyourtappushbackthemotorunit
byitself!Ifyourtaphavetomakethewholewaythroughthematerial,thenremovethetapoutofthecolletwhen
theholeiscompletelytapped.

5‐Maintenance

Justaseverymagneticdrillingmachinewithmovingparts,yourRotecmagneticdrillingmachinealsoneeds
regularmaintenanceservice.Afewrecommendationsfollow:
‐ Cleanalldirt,dust,metalchipsandburrsofyourmagneticdrillingmachine
‐ Regularlycheckthecarbonbrushesforwear
‐ Replaceanydefectivepartsimmediately.Thispreventsproperlyfunctionpartsfrombeingdamaged.
‐ Adjustyourguideregularlyandmakesureitiscleanandgreased.Thispreventsanymovementfrom
beingcreatedandthespindle,triangularguide(steady)andguidepartsfromexcessivewearor
damage.Theguidecanbeadjustedbylooseningthesettingnut(#7onsparepartdrawing)with
includedwrench8,tighteningthesettingscrews(#5onsparepartdrawing)withincludedAllenkey
2.5andtighteningthesettingnut(#7)againwithincludedwrench8.Theadjustmentisdonewell
whenthemotorunitcanbeturnedtoeverypossiblepositionwithoutfallingdownbyitsownweight.
‐ Checkthegreaseinthegearboxregularlyandreplaceitifnecessary.Werecommendyoutostore
yourmachineonitssideregularlysothatthegearboxgreasecanrunbacktowherethegearsare.
Thisisveryimportantwhenyouhaveusedyourmachinenon‐horizontalorupsidedown.
Repair,modificationandinspectionofRotecMagneticdrillingmachinesmustbedonebya Rotec
authorizeddealer.ThepartslistwillbehelpfulifpresentedwiththemachinetotheRotecdealerfor
servicewhenrequestingrepairorothermaintenance.
Rotecmachinesareconstantlybeingimprovedandmodifiedtoincorporatethelatest technological
advancements.Accordingly,someparts(iepartnumbersand/ordesign)maybe changedwithoutprior
notice.Also,duetoRotec'scontinuingprogramofresearchand development,thespecificationsof
machinesaresubjecttochangewithoutpriornotice.
