allowclothinginsidethefeedingchamber, discharge
chute,or near any moving part.
•Beforeinspecting or servicingany part orthe
machine,shutoff thepower supply,disconnect the
powercordor disconnect the sparkplugleadfrom
thesparkplug,andmakesurethatall movingparts
havecometoacompletestop.
Preparation
•Obtainand wearsafetyglasses andgloves at all
times whileoperating themachine.
•Avoidwearing loosefittingclothing. Operatethe
machineonlyon alevelsurface.
•Donotoperatethemachineon apaved orgravel
surface. Thrownobjectscouldcauseinjury.
•Beforestartingthemachine, check thatall screws,
nuts, bolts,andother fastenersareproperly
secured.Replacedamagedorunreadable warning
andoperator labels.
•Useextracareinhandlingpetrol andother fuels.
They areflammableandvapoursareexplosive.
a. Useonlyan approved container.
b. Neverremovefuel cap oraddfuelwiththe
enginerunning.Allowenginetocoolbefore
refuelling.Donotsmoke.
c. Neverrefuel themachineindoors.
d. Neverstorethemachineor fuel container inside
wherethereisanopen flame,such as agas
waterheater.
Operation
•Beforestartingthemachine, makecertainthat the
cutting chamber isempty.
•Whenfeeding shreddablematerialintothe
equipment beextremelycarefulthat piecesofmetal,
rocks,bottles,cans orotherforeign objectsarenot
included.
•If thecuttingmechanismstrikesany foreign objects
orifthemachineshouldmakeanyunusualnoise
orvibration,immediatelyswitchofftheengineand
allowthemachinetostop.Disconnectthespark
plug wirefromthesparkplugorremovepower
cordfrompowersupplyand takethefollowing
steps.
a. Inspect fordamage
b. Replaceor repairanydamaged parts.
c. Checkforand tighten any looseparts.
Donotattempt torepair themachineunless youare
competent todoso.
•Keeptheengineclean of debrisandother
accumulations toprevent damagetotheengineor
possiblefire.
•Donotallowprocessed material tobuildupinthe
dischargearea.Thismay prevent properdischarge
andcan result inkickbackof material throughthe
feedopening.
•Keepall guardsand deflectorsinplaceandingood
workingcondition.
•Alwaysstandclear of thedischargearea when
operating thismachine.
•Keepyour faceand body awayfromthefeed
opening.
•Donotoverreach.Keepproperbalanceandfooting
at all times.
•Donottamperwiththeenginegovernor settingson
petrolengines; thegovernor controlsthemaximum
safeoperatingspeedand protectstheengineandall
movingpartsfromdamagecaused by over speed.
Seekauthorised serviceif aproblem exists.
•Donottransport thismachinewhiletheengineis
running.
•If themachinebecomes clogged, switch-off the
engineand disconnect thespark plug leador
removethepower lead frompower supply,before
cleaningdebrisaway.
•Switch-off theunit beforeattaching or removingthe
mulch bag.
Maintenance
•When thisequipmentisstopped forservicing,in-
spection,orstorage,ortochangeanaccessory,
makesurethesparkplug lead isdisconnectedfrom
thesparkplug,orthepowercordisremovedfrom
powersupply.Allowthemachinetocoolbefore
making any inspections,adjustments,etc.Maintain
themachinewithcareand keep it clean.
•Storethemachineoutofthereachofchildrenand
wherepetrol vapourswillnotreach an openflameor
spark.Forextendedstorageperiods, runtheunit dry
offuel.Always allowthemachinetocoolbefore
storing.

GeneralElectricalSafetyRules
1. Avoiddangerous environmentssuchasdamp
locations.
2. Donotabusethepower cord. Neverpull amachine
bythecordor pull thecordtodisconnect it fromthe
outlet socket. Keepthecordawayfrom excessive
heat, oil, and sharpedges.
3. Disconnect themachinewhen not inuse, before
servicingandwhen changingattachments.
4. Avoidaccidental starting.Besuretoswitch off
beforepluggingthecordintoapower outlet.
5. Topreventelectrical shock,usethemachineonly
withanextension cordsuitableforoutdooruseas
recommended by theextensioncordmanufacturer;
theuseofsuitableextensioncordsisextremely
important for theoperator'spersonal safety.
6. Neveruseanindoor typeofextension cord: these
cords are designed for usewithlamps andsmall
appliances andareinadequateforhigh-powered
machines.
7. Makesuretheextensioncordisingood condition.A
cordwithcrackedorbrokeninsulation ishazardous,
particularlyinthepresenceofmoistureor
combustible material.Itisalso importantthatthe
cordconnectorsbeofruggedconstruction,ingood
condition,andsecurelyattached totheouter jacket.
8. Iftheextensioncordisdamagedinanymannerwhile
operatingthemachine,immediatelyswitch offthe
power supplyand removetheextension cordfromthe
poweroutlet.
9. Ifthesupplycordisdamagedit mustbereplaced by
aCMGServiceAgentorsimilarlyqualifiedpersonin
order toavoidahazard.

2.2Hopperhandleandbaffleassembly
The feedhopperas suppliedwiththe Chip`N
Shred needstobe assembledbeforeuse.
1. Lay therighthand sidehalf ofthehopperdownon
aflatsurfacewiththejointflangepointingup.
2. Position theleft hand sidehalf of thehopper on top
oftherighthand sidealigning thejointflangeand
screwholes. Figure1.
3. Insert theself tapping screwsinthefront
flangedjointinthesequenceshown(1-6)and
tighten. Figure1.
4. Insert theself tapping screwsintherear flanged
joint inthesamesequence as inthefront flange
and tighten.Figure1.
5. Support thehopper inanuprightposition andfitthe
hopperbaffleinsidethehopperby aligning thefour
holesinthetop edgeofthebafflewiththefour
matching holeson the ledgeinthe top ofthe
hopper. Figure2.
6. Retainthehopperbafflewiththefour3/16"x5/8"
mush.head screwswiththefourlarge3/16"Flat
washersundertheirheads and insertedfromthe
insidewiththe3/16"smallflatwashersand 3/16"

rectangular porton therighthand sideoftheChip
`NShredsothattheholesintheflangesonthe
chipper tubealignwiththestudsontheChip`N

3. Retainthechipper tubeassemblywiththree 5/16"
unc. nylocnutsandthree 5/16"flat washers.

2.5Mulchbag
Assembly
1. SlidetheMulchbagframeintothepocketsalongthe
top edgeof each sideofthemulch bag.
2.Slidethespreadertube ontothe ends ofthebag
frametilltheholeintheframearewithinthetube
and retainwiththetwo`R' clips insertedinto the
holesintheframe.
Fitting
3.Slidethemulchbag undertheChip`NShredfrom
thefrontbetweenthesupport legs and restthe
mulch bag frameon therear wheel supports. Lift the
front barofthemulch bagframeover thefrontlipon
thefrontlegs support.Figure6.
2.6Engine lubrication - Petrol Models
Theengineoillevel mustbecheckedbeforeattempting
tostarttheengine. Refertothe engine
manufacturer'sinstructions.
1. Position theChip`NShredon alevel surface.
Clean around thedip stick.
2. Removethedipstickfromtheoilfillertube.
3. Using afunnelslowlyadd oil inaccordancewiththe
enginemanufacturer'sinstructions.
4. Check theoillevel by screwing inthedipstickand
removingagain.Whentheoil level iscorrect
replacethedip stick securely.
CAUTION
Avoidprematureenginefailureby usinga
clean funnel andcleaning awayanypossible
contaminants.

2.7Fuel
1. Position theChip`NShredon alevelsurface inawell
ventilated area. Clean around thefuel tankcap.
2. Removethefuel tankcap.
3. Using acleanfunnel fill thefuel tankwithclean fresh
unleaded petrol.
4. Replacethefuel tank cap. 5.
5. Wipeup any spilt petrol.
3. OPERATION
3.1To start theengine - Petrol Models
Refertotheenginemanufacturersinstructions.
1. Movetheclutch lever tothedisengagedposition.
2. Movethechokelever tothechokeposition.
3. Movethethrottlelever tothefast position.
4. Movethefuel shutoff valvetothe on position (if fitted).
5. MovetheStop Controlswitch tothe on position(if
fitted).
6. Grasp thestarter cordand pull.
7. Whentheenginestarts,movethechokelevertothe
run position and thethrottlelevertotheslow
position.
3.2To stop theengine - Petrol Models
Refertotheenginemanufacturersinstructions
WARNING
Bladescontinuetofreewheel afterenginehas
beenswitchedoff
1. Movethethrottlelever totheoff position. O
2. Movethefuel shutoff valvetothe off position (if fitted).
3. Movethestop control switch tothe off position (if fitted).
4. Movetheclutch lever tothe disengaged position if
engaged.
3.3Rotorengagement - Petrol Models
1. Start the engineas per thesection 3.1.
2. Movethethrottlecontrol tothefast position.
3. Slowlymovetheclutchlever on theleft handsideof the
Chip`NShredtothe engaged position. Figure7.

1. Movetherotorclutchlevertothedisengaged position.

2. Movethethrottlecontroltotheslow oroff `O'
position as required.
3.5Operation - ElectricModels
1. Connect theChip`NShred to a suitablepower supply
witha15ampratedpower cordfittedwith10 ampfittings
no longer than20 meterslong. Longer cords will result
involtagedrop and possibleprematureoverload drop
out and or possiblemotor damage.
2. Tostart theChip`NShredmovethemotor switch tothe
`On'position `I'.
3. Tostop theChip`N'Shred movethemotor switch tothe
'Off' position `O'.
4. If theoverload switch activatesduring operation wait 60
seconds, reset theoverload andswitch theunit back on.
Thiswill allowtheelectricmotor timetocool and the
overload switch toreset.
5. If after waiting 60 seconds theChip`NShred failsto
restart thefollowing procedureshouldbefollowed.
a. Switchthemachineoff and disconnect thepower
supply.
b. Check for blockages and that therotor isfreeto
rotate. If therotor isjammedremovethescreens to
clear blockage.Refer tosection3.9.
c. Connect tothepower supplyand switch on theChip
`NShred.
d. If theChip`NShred will not start check thefuseor
circuit breaker on theelectrical circuit beingused
and rectifyif necessary.
e. If theChip`NShred will not start and theelectrical
circuit isfound tobeoperational, contact your local
authorisedRover servicedealer.
3.6Shredding material
1. Start theChip`NShredengineas per section 3. L
for petol modelsor section 3.5forelectricmodels.
WARNING
Operatorsshouldalways wear safetyglasses,
hearing protection and gloveswhileoperating the
Chip `NShred.
2. Engagetherotor clutch asper section 3.3. Petrol
Modelsonly.
3. Feedbranches withfoliagefirst intohopper soas to
control therateof feed.Maximumbranch sizein
shredder hopper isapproximately20mmdiameter.
4. Whenfeeding vines or long stringy typesof material
intotheChip`NShred, cut themfirst intolengths of
no morethan 600mmlong. Becareful not towrap
materialsaround hands whenfeeding.
5. Donot feedat afaster matethan theChip`NShred
can shredand dischargematerial, as you may stall
therotor and overload theengineand or damage
thedrivebelt.
3.7Chippertubefeeding
Feedlargerbranches,up toapproximately70mm diameter,
intothechippertube.Controltherateoffeed by pulling back
on thebranchso as not toblock theunit andcauseit tostall.

3.8Screens
Twoscreens aresuppliedwiththeChip`NShred,the
standardscreenconsisting ofnumerous holesinacurved
plateand abarscreenconsistingofwidelyspacedbars
betweentwosideplates.
Thesizeofthemulch producedby eithershredding or
chippingisdependenton thescreenfittedtotheChip`N
Shred
Thescreentobeuseddepends on thetypeofmaterialtobe
processed.Thestandardscreensuitsmosttypesofmaterial
found inthegarden.If moist,pulpy orsoggytypesofmaterial
aretobeprocessedthebarscreenshouldbefittedtoavoid
blockages.
3.9Screenremoval
1. Switchengineoff.
2. Removethesparkpluglead fromthesparkplug or
disconnectthepowercordfromthepowersupply.
3. When therotorhascometoastop removetheR-clips
fromthescreenbarsandremovethescreenbars, the
screenshouldthendrop outthroughthedischargechute.

3.10Screenfitting
1. Switchthe engineoffandremovethesparkpluglead
fromthesparkplugordisconnectthepower cordfromthe
power supply.
2. Choosethecorrectscreenforthematerialtobe
processed(refer tosection3.8).
3. Lift andpositionthescreenintheChip`NShredby
aligning theholesinthescreenand theChip`NShred
body.Insertthescreenrodclosesttotheenginefirstand
securewiththeR-clipretainer. Figure8.
Note:ThestandardscreencanbefittedintheChip`N
Shredineitherdirection.TheBarScreenwill onlyfit with
thebarspointing awayfromtheengine.
4. Lift thefrontofthescreenand insert thescreenrod
through theChip`NShredsideplate,retaining withtheR-
clip.
CAUTION
Donottippetrol modelsover whenfullof PetrolandOil.
4.MAINTENANCE
4.1OilchangePetrol Models
Refer tothemanufacturer'sinstructions.
1. PositiontheChip`NShredonalevel surfaceinawell
ventilatedarea.
2. Startand runtheenginefor 5minutestowarmup the
engineoil.
3. Placeacontainer undertheoildrain plug.
4. Usinga7/16"AF openend spannerremovetheengine
drainplugandtilt theChip`NShredtoallowtheengine
oil todraincompletely.
5. Refit theenginedrainplugtightlyandclean up any spilt
oil.
6. Fill theenginecrankcasewithoil. Refertosection 2.6
EngineLubrication.
4.2 LubricationPointsPetrolModels
Using10w -30or S.A.E.30 oil
1. Clutch lever point.
2. Throttlecontrol.
4.3Drive belt adjustment - PetrolModels
1. Stop theChip`NShredandremovethesparkpluglead
fromthesparkplug.
2. Removethedrivebeltguard.
3. Movetheclutchlever totheengagedposition.
4. Loosenthefourenginemountbolts.
5. SlidetheengineawayfromtheChip`NShredbodyto
tightenthedrivebelt.Thedrivebeltshoulddeflect about
6mm whenhand pressureisapplied,betweentheengine
pulleyandtherotorshaftpulley. Figure9.
6. Tightentheenginemount bolts.
7. Replacethedrivebeltguardaligningthe `E' holewith
retainingstud.
8. Movetheclutchengagementlever tothedisengaged
position and replacethespark pluglead.
CAUTION
Donot over tightendrivebelt.
4.4Drive Beltadjustment - ElectricModels
1. Stop theChip`NShredanddisconnectfrom thepower
supply.
2. Removethedrivebeltguard
3. Loosenthefourenginemountbolts `A' figure10.
4. Tension thedrivebelttogivea6mm deflection when
hand pressureisapplied,byholding thenut`B' witha
9/16"A/Fspannerandrotatingthebolt `C' clockwise.
5. Tightenthefourenginemount bolts.
6. Replacethedrivebeltguardaligningthe `E' holewith
retainingstud.
WARNING
Thechipperbladeisextremelysharpandcaution
must beusedwhenhandling or workingwithit.

Chipperbladeremoval
1. StoptheChip`N'ShredTMandremovethesparkplug
leadfromthesparkplug,or removethepowercord
fromthepowersupply.
2. Removethethree retainingnylocnutsandwashers
fromthechippertubeandlift off.
3. Removethehopperassemblyfastenersandlift the
hopperassemblyofftheChip`N'ShredTMbody.
4. Rotatetherotor toexposethechipperbladeinthe
chipper tubeport.
5. Usinga1/2"AFringspanneranda Allenkey remove
thechipperbladefastenersandremovethechipper
blade.Figure11.

1. Cleanthesurfaceoftherotorplatewherethechipper
bladeisattached.
2. Usingnew 5/16" Nylocnutsfit thechipperbladetothe
rotorplateandtighten thenylocnutsto19Nm.

whengrinding.
3. Removeanyfeathersthatformbylightlyhoning the
chipperbladeonan oilstone.
4. RefittotheChip`N' Shred TM.Refer tosection4.5.
4.7Flails
TheChip`N' ShredTMisfittedwith12 individualflail
blades. Therelativepositionof theflailson eachbar and to
