SAFETY SUMMARY
POWER SOURCE
This equipmentis designedto operatefrom an AC power sourceasdescribed in the electrical specifications.
GROUNDING
Thechassisof thisproductis groundedthrough the grounding pin of the line cord. Toavoid electrical
shock, with thepower off, lug the line cord into a properly wired receptacle before making any input or

outputconnectionswith ot er devices.Use only the linecord specifiedfor your unit. Ensurethat the line
cord is in good condition and freeof kinks.
CAUTION:
A protectiveground connection through the grounding conductorof thelinecord isessentialforsafe
operation.
FUSING
Thisproductisfittedwith a fuse. Toavoidafirehazard,check that the fusehas a suitablevoltageand
currentrating forthepower requirements l~stedin the spec~ficat~onsand shown on the schematicdiagram.

1.1 DESCRIPTION
TheMDA-100 Mixing and DistributionAmplifier
containsan
8 x 1 summingamplifier(mixer) and a 1x 8
distributionamplifier in a case thatis 1 rack unit high.
TheMDA-100 isuseful, forexample, in cameracontrol
(CCU), wheremultiplecameraoperatorshave to talk and
listen toonemaster controllocation. In this application,
audiofkom each camera(up to eight)is fed to oneof the
summing amplifierinputsof theMDA-100, All eight
audioinputsaresummedand fed to the master controller
input. Thereturn audiopath from themaster controller
back to theindividual camerasis accomplishedusing the
distributionamplifier,which takesthe singleaudiooutput
from the mastercontrollerand distributesitto each of the
eightcameraoutputs.

trimmer locatedinsidethe MDA-100 to adjust the final
outputlevel of the summing amplifier.Thesumming
amplifieroutputis a 60-ohm voltagesource.
Thedistributionamplifier has a separate outputlevel
trimmer foreach output. Thesetrimmers arelocated on
the frontpanel. All the outputsare60-ohm voltage
sources.The input impedance may be set for bridging
(20kohms), 150ohms,or
600 ohms, selected by rear
paneljumpers.
The MDA-100 fitsintoa standard 19"
(483 mm)
equipmentrack. Thepower entry module isan
IEC
approved type, which contains a linevoltage switch,a
linefilter,a fuseholder,and a line cord socketconnector.
Thelinevoltage switchmay be setforeither 1051125
Vac, 50160
Hz, or 2101250 Vac, 50/60 Hz supply
voltages. TheMDA-100featuresa torroidal-transformer
power supplyfor low-noiseoperation.
Thegain of each summing amplifierinputmay be
individuallyadjusted
by a trimmeron the frontpanel of

SECTION 2 INSTALLATION
0 2.1 UNPACKING
Unpack theMDA-100 and verify that you have received
the following:
(1) MDA-100 MixingDistributionAmplifier
(1) Molex ConnectorKit
(1) AC Line Cord
(1) InstructionManud

NOTE
It isimportant thatall articlesbe thoroughly inspected
immediatelyupon receipt. Any damagediscovered
should because for a damageclaim againstthecarrier.
1 2.2 PREPARATION
TheMDA-100 fitsin 19" (483 mm) wide standard
equipmentracks, consolesand turrets. Prepare the
equipmentrackfor installationof theMDA-100,and
locatea suitablepower source.
2.3 POWER CONNECTION
Beforepluggingin thepower cord, verify that the voltage
selectorswitch issetto thecorrect voltage. Use a
flat-bladescrewdriver to align the white dot with 110or
220,dependingon your supply voltage. Plug thepower
cord into the MDA-100 and an AC outlet.
2.4 FUSE REPLACEMENT
Thefuse holder (Figure2-2) is designed for one active
fuse,with provision for holdinga spare. Italsohas a
safety interlock toprevent fuseremoval while thepower
cord is plugged intotheMDA-100.
To removethe fuse
:
1. Unplug the power cord from theMDA-100.
2. Using a small screwdriver,pry out the fuse holder.
3. Replace the fuseonly with the same type and rating.
4.
Slidethe fuseholder back intoplace and reinstall the
power cord.
