Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched• , particularly
at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the
apparatus Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord
Only use attachments/accessories specied by the manufacturer•
Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long•
periods of time
Refer all servicing to qualied service personnel.• Servicing is required
when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, the power-supply cord
or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled into or objects have fallen into
the apparatus, or the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does
not operate normally, or has been dropped If any of these conditions
occur, unplug the product from the power source and refer servicing to
qualied personnel
Only operate this unit from the type of power source indicated• on
the power rating label on the SMC unit and in the Technical Specications
section of this guide Connection to any other power source will void the
warranty
Ground your system• To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to
your SMC, do not disable the power cord grounding feature The grounding
plug is an important safety feature Connect the equipment to a grounded
(earthed) power outlet For your safety, be sure that the grounded power
outlet into which you plug the power cord is easily accessible and located as
close to the SMC as possible
Never pull on the power cord. • Disconnect the SMC by grasping the power

outlet that you can easily reach
Use surge protection. • Connect all power cords for your system and its
peripheral devices (such as a printer or scanner) to a surge protection device
such as a power strip with surge protection or Uninterruptible Power Supply
(UPS) Not all power strips provide surge protection; the power strips must
bespecicallylabeledashavingthiscapability.Useapowerstripwhose
manufacturer offers a Damage Replacement Policy so you can replace your
equipment if surge protection fails
Use the right power source• Use only a power source and connection
appropriate for this SMC, as indicated on the rear panel label Be sure the
total ampere rating of the products connected to the outlet does not exceed
the current rating of the electrical outlet, and the total ampere rating of the
products connected to the cord does not exceed the rating of the cord Look
on the power label to determine the ampere rating (AMPS or A) for each
device
Outdoor antenna grounding• If an outside antenna or cable system is
connected to your SMC, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded
to provide some protection against voltage surges and static build-up
charges Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides
information for proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure,
grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna, connection to grounding
electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode

Power lines• An outside antenna should not be located in the vicinity of
overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can
fall into such power lines or circuits
