Possible symptoms of batteryconsumption
Unfortunately, it is not always obvious when a button or coin
battery is stuck in a child’s oesophagus. The child might:
•
cough, gag, or drool excessively;
•
appear to have an upset stomach ora virus;
•
be sick;
•
point to their throat or stomach;
•
have pain in theirabdomen, chest, or throat;
•
be tired orlethargic;
•
be quieter or more clingy than usual orotherwise “not
themselves”;
•
lose their appetite or have a reduced appetite; and
•
not want / be unable to eat solid food.
These symptoms mayvary or fluctuate, with pain increasing
and then subsiding.
A symptom of button and coin battery ingestion is vomiting
fresh (bright red) blood. If this occurs, seek immediate
medical help.
The lack of obvious symptoms is why it is important to be
vigilant about “flat” or spare button orcoin batteries in the
home and the products that contain them.
Correct disposal
This marking on the product, accessories or
literature and without the bar on batteries
