Quick user Guide
JuniorSTAR®† is a half-unit, re-usable insulin pen used to inject insulin. Always follow the directions
given by your Diabetes Team and read the full JuniorSTAR®User Guide before you use your
JuniorSTAR®pen for the first time. If you have any questions about your JuniorSTAR®or about
Type 1 Diabetes, ask your Diabetes Team or call Sanofi Diabetes careline on 08000 352525.
– Instructions for use must be read prior to using your JuniorSTAR®pen
– Do not share your JuniorSTAR®pen – it is only for you
– Always have a back-up method for injecting your insulin available (e.g. an insulin syringe)
– JuniorSTAR®is available in different colours. If you use different types of insulin, you should use
a different colour pen for each insulin
– JuniorSTAR®should only be used with Sanofi 3 ml insulin cartridges (supplied separately)
– Make sure that the name on the insulin cartridge is visible in the cartridge holder window
– You can set doses from 1 to 30 units in steps of 0.5 units
– Discuss your insulin treatment plan with your Diabetes Team
– Insulin use: once you take the insulin cartridge out of cool storage (e.g. a refrigerator), you can
use it for up to 28 days or until the expiry date of the insulin (whichever comes first). The insulin
should not be kept in the refrigerator once it has been attached to your JuniorSTAR®pen
– Your JuniorSTAR®pen can be used for up to 2 years after first use
IMPORTANT
Check the name on the insulin cartridge each time before
you inject.
In case the name of the insulin cartridge is not visible in
the cartridge holder window, turn the cartridge with your
fingers until the name is visible
A. Check the appearance of your insulin
If you are using clear insulin, do not use the cartridge if
the insulin is cloudy or coloured
If you are using a suspension insulin, turn the pen up
and down at least 10times to re-suspend the insulin.
Turn the pen gently to avoid foaming in the cartridge
