Chapter 1 –Introduction and Product Information
Introduction
This camera model is a digital camera with excellent image quality and user-friendly controls
intended for usage in microscopy applications. The camera delivers the image in real time through a
HDMI signal with full HD resolution to a monitor or TV with HDMI input.
No PC is needed to operate the camera! Images and videos can be stored on the removable SD card.
The camera functions are controlled by mouse directly on the screen menu. Operation with a
Windows PC or MAC is also possible.
Dust Protection and Cleaning
The optical components of the camera must be protected against dust. Please ensure that the dust
cover (black round cap) is always placed back on the camera in case you have to remove the camera
from the microscope.
If the glass cover of the sensor gets polluted with dust, cleaning with a lens-free cloth (as sold in the
camera stores) and a small amount of ethanol can be applied. Clean it gently from left to right and
from top to bottom. Contamination on the inside of the glass can be removed only by the
manufacturer.
Maintenance
Maintenance of the camera can be done only by the manufacturer. In cases which this necessary,
please contact your dealer.
CAUTION: Please Do not open the casing of the camera. The penetration of
dust and moisture can damage the chip. When opening the camera by unauthorized
personnel, the warranty expires. In case of problems your dealer will be happy to help.

In USB-Mode you connect the camera with the USB port of your computer.
•DC12V: Connection to the included power supply
•ON/OFF: Switch on/off the camera
•SD: SD card slot for SD cards in order to capture photos and videos. If you want to use your
own SD cards, it is suggested to use a Class 10 SD card.
On the back of the camera there is also a control LED –the following color codes apply:
•Dark: the camera is not supplied with power
•Red: the camera is supplied with power but is not operating

Chapter 4 –Working in HDMI-Mode
CAMERA-SETUP IN HDMI-MODE
1. Connect the camera with the power supply
2. Connect the camera with the mouse
3. Connect the camera with the HDMI input of your HDMI monitor and ensure that you select in
your monitor as source port the HDMI port where the camera is connected
4. Insert the SD card into the SD card slot
5. Connect the camera with the c-mount adapter of your microscope
6. Switch on the camera
Please consider that you can connect the camera only to a HDMI INPUT port of a
monitor. Some Notebooks may have HDMI ports but these are HDMI-OUTPUTS. You
cannot connect the camera to a notebook and project the image on the notebook
monitor!
As with any mass storage device, you may not remove the SD card during operation of
the camera, because data loss is possible. Please always turn the camera off before
removing the SD card from the camera and undock the displayed device before
removing the SD card from your PC!

camera as well as take pictures and videos to the supplied SD card or play back from the camera to
the monitor.
The following menu is displayed when you reach the left edge of the screen with the mouse.

As soon as you reach the lower edge with the mouse, the icons for the image conversion functions
appear
IMAGE CONVERSION FUNCTIONS IM HDMI-MODE
Below you will find the explanation of the displayed function symbols.
Magnifying Glass +/-: Zoom in and out. The zoom function only affects the
screen display. When recording, the image recorded by the sensor is recorded
1: 1 without zoom.
Mirror: Horizontal and vertical mirroring of the displayed image. Using this
functions you achieve the same orientation as seen through the oculars.
Image Comparison: After selecting this function you will be prompted to select
an already recorded image. Then, on the one half of the screen, this already
recorded image (e.g., sample before a treatment) appears. On the other half the
live image is displayed. This helps for example to demonstrate the effect of a
treatment.
Freeze/Thaw: The currently displayed live image gets frozen on the screen.
Press again to return to the live view.
Crosshair: Display of a crosshair on the image for applications where alignment
of the object is necessary.
Photo and video browser: Possibility to playback and manage your recordings
(source: connected SD card).

Chapter 5 –Further Information
You can turn off Auto Exposure, which is very useful for many applications. When this function is
activated, exposure time (exposure) and sensitivity (gain) are set automatically. For dark field
microscopy, we recommend switching off the automatic exposure.
If you need/prefer a grey scale image instead of a color one (for some applications it makes sense),
then you need to adjust the color intensity (saturation) to the smallest value (controller far left) in
the menu.
Please note that (in contrast to USB operation with a PC), the camera cannot obtain date and time
information from the PC in HDMI mode - saving files with a current date and time information is
therefore only in USB mode possible.
This camera has been also designed for applications that require long exposure times (down to the
seconds range!) like fluorescence microscopy. To obtain an image with a high frame rate, as is
required in most bright and dark field applications, we recommend the following procedure when
setting the parameters:
1. Make sure that Auto Exposure is not activated
2. Set a low exposure time (less than 20 msec)
3. Adjust the Gain from zero to a high value to lighten the image
On the other hand, if you have a very long exposure time of e.g. 200 msec with a correspondingly
weak gain set, the camera can deliver up to 5 frames / sec, since the production of every single frame
takes 200 msec.

Chapter 6 –USB-Mode using a PC or MAC
To use the camera with a computer, update your computer operating system with the last updates,
connect the camera to the PC using the USB cable of the package and install the software from the
CD. On the CD you can find the manufacturer’s operation manuals.
For using the camera in this mode, the power supply of the camera must be also connected and
switched on.
Please notice that the Windows release of the software contains more functions than the MAC one.
