PACKAGE CONTENTS
This package contains:
One ST-CCTV-VBAC4 4-channel active UTP video receiver
One installation manual
Note: The ST-CCTV-VBAC4 requires a minimum 12VDC 1A power supply such as the
ST-PS12VDC1A.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The ST-CCTV-VBAC4 is a 4-channel active video receiver that receives a balanced signal over
unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable and converts it to an unbalanced signal for a display device
(e.g., monitor). Four channels of video imaging simultaneously can be received over UTP cable,
processed and displayed. The ST-CCTV-VBAC4 incorporates excellent crosstalk suppression and
transient suppression protection. Color video transmission distances using the SecurityTronix
ST-CCTV-VB passive video balun are up to 3,900 feet. Use of the SecurityTronix
ST-CCTV-VBAC-TX active video balun allows a color transmission distance up to 4,900 feet.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of electrical shock do not remove the cover or back of this
unit. No user serviceable parts are inside.
CAUTION: To prevent electric shocks and risk of fire hazards, do not use other than
specified power source.
1. UNPACKING and HANDLING
Each unit is shipped assembled and factory tested.
Ensure that all accessories are removed from the container before discarding packing material
2. MECHANICAL INSPECTION
Inspect the front and rear of the equipment for shipping damage. Make sure the equipment is
clean, and no connectors are broken, damaged, or loose. If equipment appears to be
damaged or defective please contact your distributor or SecurityTronix at 1-610-429-1511 for
assistance.
3. SPECIAL ATTENTION
a. The installer must comply with electrical safety standards.
b. A minimum 12VDC 1A power supply must be used. AC power cannot be applied.
Using an AC or other incorrect power supply will damage the unit.
c. Only qualified installers are allowed to install and test the unit.
d. The ST-CCTV-VBAC4 is a low voltage product and intended for indoor installations. If
installed outdoors proper safety and lightning grounding are required.
4. WIRING CONNECTIONS
a. The UTP connections to the ST-CCTV-VBAC4 can be done using the unit’s (i)
terminal blocks or (ii) RJ45 connector. The advantage of using the RJ45 connector is
multiple devices can be connected using a single UTP cable. If using the RJ45
connector the wiring order follows the TIA/EIA-568B specification. All UTP wiring
should correspond to the figure below:
This symbol is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and
maintenance (servicing) instructions.
This symbol is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated “dangerous
voltage” within the product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a
risk of electrical shock.

If connections are to be made using the unit’s terminal blocks:
Device 1 uses A1B1
Device 2 uses A2B2
Device 3 uses A3B3
Device 4 uses A4B4
b. If connecting a passive balun to the CCTV camera use the ST-CCTV-VB passive
video balun to transition the camera’s unbalanced output (BNC coax) to balanced
UTP.
c. If connecting an active balun to the CCTV camera use the ST-CCTV-VBAC-TX active
video balun to transition the camera’s unbalanced output (BNC coax) to balanced
UTP.
d. Make a UTP cable connection between each passive/active device’s balanced
connector and the ST-CCTV-VBAC4’s terminal blocks or RJ45 input connectors. Up
to 4 devices can be connected.
e. Using quality 75ohm coaxial cable with BNC connectors connect the
ST-CCTV-VBAC4’s BNC output connector to a display device (e.g., DVR or monitor).
Up to 4 display devices can be connected.
f. Connect a 12VDC 1A power supply to the ST-CCTV-VBAC4’s power connector.
g. Connect the power supply to an appropriate AC outlet.

5. SETTINGS
Image brightness and sharpness may vary according to the distance between the camera and
the ST-CCTV-VBAC4. To help achieve the best image quality, first adjust the
ST-CCTV-VBAC4’s DIP switches (K1, K2, K3 and K4) as depicted below.
Below 656’
492’ –1,476’
2,296’ –3,608’
3,280’ –3,937’
984’ –2,296’
1,640’ –2,952’
2,624’ –3,937’
More than 3,937’
The ST-CCTV-VBAC4 has 4 sets of DIP switches. Each set is dedicated to a specific device
and connection.
After setting the DIP switches for the proper distance for a given device you can adjust the HF
and LF potentiometers for proper contrast and brightness. Note this should be done with a
video waveform monitor or other video test equipment. However, if such equipment is not
available a video monitor can be used.
6. TROUBLESHOOTING
a. Video image appears scrambled –(i) Check to be sure all UTP wiring connections and
polarities are consistent at each device and ST-CCTV-VBAC4 input (terminal block or
RJ45 connector).
b. Video image has some ripples –This may be caused by electro-magnetic
interference. Be certain all cables are away from any devices that may cause such
interference (e.g., electrical motors, furnaces, etc.).
c. Video image lacks brightness and/or sharpness –Adjust the ST-CCTV-VBAC4’s DIP
switches for distance and HF/LF potentiometers for contrast and brightness. A video
waveform monitor or other video test equipment should be used.
d. Can shielded twisted pair cable be used – Although shielded twisted pair cable can be
used, the cable’s high-frequency roll-off will degrade the distance performance.
Therefore, it is not recommended beyond a couple hundred feet.
