Important safety instructions
■Do not use the appliance in the vicinity of a
bath, shower or swimming-pool, over a
washbasin filled with water or any other
receptacle containing water. There is also a
risk when the appliance is switched off.
Additional protection is offered by fitting an
earth-leakage circuit-breaker with a rated
tripping current not exceeding 30mA into
your home installation. Please consult a
qualified electrician.
■Caution: Ensure that the appliance is kept
dry; always protect it from moisture and
splashing water, and do not operate it with
wet hands.
■Before the appliance is used, the main
body including the power cord as well as
any attachment fitted should be checked
thoroughly for any defects. Should the
appliance, for instance, have been dropped
onto a hard surface, it must not be used
any longer: even invisible damage may
have adverse effects on the operational
safety of the appliance.
■Do not leave the appliance unattended
while in use.
■Caution: the trimming blade is extremely
sharp; to prevent injuries, ensure that at all
times during use the blade does not touch
the skin.
■Switch off and remove the adapter
from the wall socket
- after use,
- in case of any malfunction during
use,
- before cleaning the appliance.
■The power cord should be regularly
examined for any signs of damage. In the
event of such damage being found, the
appliance must no longer be used.
■When removing the adaptor from the wall
socket, never pull on the power cord;
always grip the adaptor itself.
■This appliance is not intended for use by
any person (including children) with
reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities, or lacking experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning the
use of the appliance by a person
responsible for their safety.
■Children should be supervised to ensure
that they do not play with the appliance.
■No responsibility will be accepted if damage
results from improper use, or if these
instructions are not complied with.
■This appliance is intended for domestic use
only and not for commercial applications.
■In order to comply with safety regulations
and to avoid hazards, repairs of electrical
appliances must be carried out by qualified
personnel, including the replacement of the
power cord. If repairs are needed, please
10
send the appliance to one of our customer
service departments. The addresses can be
found in the appendix to this manual.
Charging process
Before using the appliance for the first time the
battery must be fully charged for a period of
approximately 12 hours. However, the
appliance can remain on charge for a longer
period without damage or danger.
Should you experience a considerable
decrease in trimming performance, switch off
the appliance and recharge the battery. The
hair trimmer may also be used by means of
the adaptor. In this case, however, the battery
must be briefly charged for approximately 10
minutes. The charging process starts only once
the unit is switched off and is visible by the
charge indicator.
-
With the appliance switched off, insert the
connecting plug of the adaptor into the
corresponding jack on the main unit.
-
Insert the adaptor into a suitable wall
socket. The charging process begins
automatically and is shown by the charge
indicator on the appliance. The indicator
remains lit as long as the charging base is
connected to the mains power.
The charging process only starts if the unit
has been switched off.
-
Once the charging process is complete,
always remove the adaptor from the wall
socket first before disconnecting the plug
from the appliance.
-
Whilst charging, the transformer within the
adaptor will become warm. This is perfectly
normal and safe and does not indicate a
malfunction of any kind.
-
If the appliance has not been used for a
long period of time, the capacity of the
battery may decrease by a certain amount.
However, full capacity will be restored after
several charging/discharging cycles.
Operation
Adjusting the cutting length
The push-on attachment combs allow for
adjusting the cutting length and are fitted over
the trimming comb. The combs have the
following sizes: 3 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm and 12
mm. The thinning head is useful for thinning
out the hair. Unlock and remove the
attachment after use.
A few remarks on cutting hair
■Before each use, always put a few drops of
acid-free oil between the trimming comb
and the trimming blade.
-
Always start with the largest push-on comb.
-
The hair should first be combed, and then
generally cut against its natural direction.
-
For longer hair-cuts use a push-on comb or
a normal comb.
-
Cut from bottom to top with the trimming
comb lying against the head; lead the
appliance upwards through the hair, moving
it gradually away from the head at the same
time.
-
For a shaped cut, reverse the appliance
and shorten the hair from top to bottom
without using the push-on comb.
-
The thinning head is useful for thinning out
certain parts of the hair by a third, eg for
modern, short-style hair. Cut the areas to
be thinned against the natural direction of
growth.
Cleaning and Care
General
■It is essential to switch off the appliance
and remove the adaptor from the wall
socket before cleaning and oiling.
■For safety reasons, the electric hair trimmer
and the adaptor must not be immersed in
liquid or even allowed to come into contact
with liquid.
-
If necessary, the housing may be wiped
with a smooth dry cloth.
11
Trimming head
-
After each use, remove the hair from the
trimming comb and the blade with the
cleaning brush. The trimming head can be
removed for cleaning by using the thumbs
to push down the two release buttons
towards the base.
■After cleaning, and also after the appliance
has been used for approx. 25 minutes, put
a drop of acid-free oil between the trimming
comb and the trimming blade on each side,
and then switch the appliance on briefly to
ensure that the oil is well and evenly
distributed. Regular oiling guarantees good
cutting performance over a long period and
thus a long service life.
-
During periods of non-use, the thinning
head can be used as a protective cover for
the trimming head.
Disposal of battery pack
■This appliance contains a nickel-metal
hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable battery pack,
which must be removed for disposal. To
remove, first disconnect the appliance from
the mains. Carefully remove the silver-
coloured cover at the front of the appliance,
using a suitable screw-driver, then take off
the trimming head as described above.
Loosen the two screws underneath the
trimming head and also the two screws
located at the front of the appliance. Take
out the internal circuit-board with the
battery pack. Now cut the connecting wires
leading to the battery pack, one by one, and
dispose of the batteries properly.
Ni-MH
Remember to protect the
environment. Never dispose of old
battery packs in domestic garbage.
Old battery packs must be disposed of
through the proper public collection points.
Disposal
Do not dispose of old or defective
appliances in domestic garbage; this
should only be done through public
collection points.
