Congratulations. You have invested in the finest speaker value on planet Earth. The
subwoofer system you have purchased is the result of no less than 22 distinct iterations of
design and implementation prototypes evolved through empirical measurement and critical
listening. shelby+kroll speakers will give you many years of musical pleasure if they are used
prudently with a healthy jug o’ good ol’ common sense.
Your shelby+kroll loudspeakers are finely tuned precision instruments. Every single aspect of
the design and execution of the loudspeaker is the result of a vast amount of research,
execution, measurement and listening. Not a single detail has been left to chance. Please see
our website if you would like to explore the technical details of our loudspeakers.
Many well known brands of loudspeakers use parts that are a tiny, tiny cost of the retail price
of the speaker. We’re talking all the parts combined costing under 1 % of what the speaker
sells for. This is done, obviously, purely for profit. It also gives the speaker manufacturer
some cushion. If a movie/music lover abuses their speakers (whether because of carelessness
or not knowing better) and parts need replacing, it costs the speaker manufacturer virtually
nothing to replace the parts. They often also charge a handling fee in addition to shipping on
the parts. That handling fee usually more than pays for the parts. So it isn’t a big deal to a lot
of speaker manufacturers if every one of their speakers has a warranty claim or 2 or 3 or 4
or… during the warranty period. What’s a buck or two when your profit margin is way over
2000% ! ! ! And they are most likely making a profit again on the handling fee. Covering
abuse for free can make them look like heroes. Who cares if they are replacing garbage, cheap
parts with garbage, cheap parts.
shelby+kroll is very, very different. We pride ourselves in offering by far the highest value in
our industry. We use extremely high quality drivers that are much higher quality than anyone
even remotely near our price range. We operate on a profit margin percentage that is much
lower than our competition. When you couple that with our industry leading innovation, that
is why we can offer such a high quality product for several times less than our leading
competitors. So rather than load our speakers with garbage and look like heroes when the
movie/music lover abuses the speaker and gets “free” warranty service, we would prefer to
offer a very high value and inform the movie/music lover about loudspeaker abuse.
The Following 4 Paragraphs are The Most Important Part of the Manual
Distortion is AUDIBLE. You can hear if something is not right with your shelby+kroll
loudspeakers. Although some speakers are damaged by putting too much power through
them, most speakers are damaged by a different means. This different means is commonly
referred to as “clipping”. The amp cannot properly reproduce power at a certain level of
output and it starts clipping the waveform. Amplifiers that are pushed beyond their designed
wattage into clipping, go from low distortion to ultrahigh distortion. This first damages and
then burns out the tweeters. Then it does the same to the primary drivers, woofers and
crossovers. Over 90% of all speaker damage is caused by this distortion.
Your shelby+kroll subwoofer is of such a high caliber that you can instantly hear if something
is not right with the sound coming from your subwoofer. You can keep turning up the volume

as long as your subwoofer sounds good. Once you reach its limit, it will start to sound a little
fuzzy or ill defined. If you go past that level, you will hear a very distinct popping or snapping
sound coming from the subwoofer. Just back down on the volume level until your subwoofer
sounds clean and clear again.
If you are going to have a party at your house, do NOT use your shelby+kroll loudspeakers to
play the music at any volume level above light background music (the level you hear in an
elevator or a restaurant). We recommend you rent PA equipment and/or a DJ instead.
This is no laughing matter! Most good audio equipment used at parties ends up damaged or
totaled. Folk that have had too much to drink often spill on the equipment or trip over it. Or
much more commonly (over 90% of the time) the following happens. Ask any stereo
salesman who has been in the industry for even just a few years. They will have their share of
stories of movie/music lovers that all sound exactly like this: "I don't know what happened.
Last night they sounded great. But this morning the tweeters don't work and the woofers
sound scratchy." What really happened is always the same. As their hearing was
progressively dulled (in clarity and loudness perception) by the booze, they kept turning their
stereo up until they were clipping the amp and the highs got really distorted. To their alcohol-
dulled ears those "extra highs" sounded good. But they were damaging the drivers &
crossovers. They either couldn't hear the distortion, didn't care or both. Sorry good
movie/music lovers. That is abuse, not defects in manufacturing.
LEGAL STUFF
WARNING! - Listening to your shelby+kroll loudspeakers with your ear pressed up to (or
within 18” of) any of the drivers for a prolonged period of time can cause hearing damage. If
you listen at least 3’ away there is no cause for concern.
WARNING! - Receivers, integrated amps and power amps have parts that fail. When they
do, they emit high amounts of distortion and/or DC. This can damage or destroy the amplifier,
crossover and subwoofer. This is abuse from the amplifier and this kind of damage is NOT
covered under the shelby+kroll warranty.
WARRANTY
If you purchased your speakers from an authorized shelby+kroll dealer:
shelby+kroll warrant their WooferMonitor 1.0 against any manufacturer defects in materials
and workmanship for a period of 6 months from the time of purchase. You may register your
speakers with the provided Warranty Extension Registration Card. If the Warranty Extension
Registration Card is received by shelby+kroll within 30 days of the time of purchase, the
warranty against any defects in materials and workmanship will be extended to 5 years for the
subwoofer and speaker cabinet and 2 years for the crossover/amplifier.
If you purchased your speakers directly from shelby+kroll:
shelby+kroll warrant their WooferMonitor 1.0 against any manufacturer defects in materials
and workmanship for a period of 6 months from the time of purchase. You may register your
speakers with the provided Warranty Extension Registration Card. If the Warranty Extension

Registration Card is received by shelby+kroll within 60 days of the time of purchase, the
warranty against any defects in materials and workmanship will be extended to 5 years for the
subwoofer and speaker cabinet and 2 years for the crossover/amplifier.
If you purchased your speakers used:
You may have your speakers recertified by shelby+kroll. The fee is $200.00 and includes
return shipping. This involves stringent electrical measurement testing and also several
listening tests. If everything performs up to spec, you speaker will be certified and given a
warranty that protects it from defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year from the
certification date. If everything is not up to spec, you will be contacted by shelby+kroll with
the associated cost of parts to bring it up to spec. Should you choose to have your speaker
repaired, you pay the extra amount associated w/ the parts and the certification fee will cover
labor.
Any defacing of the serial number immediately voids all warranties
on new or recertified shelby+kroll speakers.
The following are NOT a good idea when it comes to your fine shelby+kroll loudspeakers:
Taking them waterskiing
Taking them snowboarding
Playing rugby with them
Attempting to improve the exterior finish with Kool-Aid, wine, beer or other beverage.
We are sure you can come up with some originals that you also will want to refrain from.
shelby+kroll loudspeakers will last a good long time and perform at their
optimum if you use a healthy jug o’ good ol’ common sense.
