Your new high fidelity Receiver is designed to deliver maximum enjoyment and years of trouble free service.
Please take a
few moments to read this manual thoroughly. It will explain the features and operation of your
Receiver and help insure atrouble free installation.
Please unpack your Receiver carefully.
We recommend that you save the carton and packing material. They will
be helpful should you ever need to move your unit and may be required if you ever need to return it for service.
Your Receiver is designed to be placed in ahorizontal position and it is important to allow at least two inches
of space behind your unit for adequate ventilation and cablin6 convenience. To avoid early damage, never place
the unit near radiators, in front of heating vents, in direct sun light, or in excessively humid or dusty location.
Connect your complementary components as illustrated
in the following section.

•1. SYSTEM
GROUND TERMINAL
To reduce hum to aminimum, this terminal is used to interconnect the chassis or ground lead of the turntable to the
Receiver. Attach the ground lead from your turntable to this terminal if available. To further minimize hum, it may
be necessary [Q connect the GROUND terminal with awire to the nearest water pipe which goes directly to true ground.
2. PRONO INPUT JACKS
Input for turntable with amagnetic
or variable-reluctance cartridge having 47,000 ohms of load impedance. Connect
shielded cables from your phono arm to the LEFT and RIGHT input jacks. To avoid loss of high frequency response,
it is recommended that these cables not exceed 6feet in length.
NOTE: Do not place yOUf turntable on aspeaker enclosure. This will avoid howling caused by transmitting of the speaker
vibration to the turntable.
3. AUX/CD INPUT JACKS
This extra stereo input is provided for any high level sources you may wish to connect to your Receiver. Acompact
disc player (CD), an additional tape recorder, avideo tape recorder (VTR). aturntable with ceramic cartridge or similar
high level source can be plugged intO this auxiliary input and selected by the front panel INPUT SELECTOR switch.
4. FM ANTENNA BALANCED TERMINAL
This 240 to 300 ohm balanced input is used for standard TV twin lead connection. The dipole antenna provided with
your Receiver should be adequate for local FM reception. Attach the antenna's arm horizontally to anonmetallic sur-
face such as awindow, awall, or the rear surface of acabinet or shelf. In general, the antenna is best positioned when
it is as high as possible above floor level and its arms are perpendicular to the source of transmission. If you are located
aconsiderable distance from FM transmitters or in aferroconcrete building, an outdoor FM antenna may be required
to reduce background noise, fading or interference.
5. FM ANTENNA UNBALANCED CONNECTION
This connector used for 60 to 75 ohm unbalanced coaxial cable connection.
6. AM GROUND TERMINAL
For best results when using an external AM antenna, the Receiver's chassis should be properly grounded ana this is
easily done by connecting this terminal to the nearest water pipe or metal conduit that goes to true ground.
7. EXTERNAL AM ANTENNA
In ferroconcrete buildings or in areas remote from broadcast stations, the built-in antenna may not prove adequate.
To supplement the built-in antenna, connect 10 to 20 feet of insulated, flexible, single conductor wire to this terminal,
but this wire should be kept away from all speaker cables and power cables and run in astraight line along anonmetallic
baseboard or under arug.
8. AM FERRITE BAR ANTENNA
This Receiver comes with an AM built-in bar antenna. Rotate this bar antenna away from chassis for best reception
of AM stations.
9. TAPE IN JACKS
The output signal coming from your tape deck or tape recorder during playback is fed into these jacks and selected
as alistening source by pushing the TAPE MONITOR switch on the front panel to the "in" position regardless of the
position of INPUT SELEcroR switch.

10. TAPE OUT JACKS
Signal from this jack are fed to the line inputs of tape deck or tape recorder for recording purpose. Select the source
to be recorded with the INPUT SELECIDR switch on the from panel. Tone controls. loudness. subsonic, mono and volume
settings have no effect on the signal. To monitor this source while recording, simply select the desired speakers and
adjust VOLUME, etc, to the desired listening level, with the TAPE MONITOR switch in the depressed position. If yOUf
tape recorder is equipped with separate recording and playback heads, you may monilOr directly from the tape being
recorded by depressing the TAPE MONlroR switch to the "in" position.
11. SPEAKER FUSES
The output stages are electrically protected against overload. Should ashort circuit condition at high volume setting
be maintained for along period, these fuses will open. Do not replace the fuse with the larger rating. To protect speakers
with low power ratings, alower value may be installed. Consult your dealer if in doubt.
12. SPEAKER OUTPUT Aand B TERMINALS
The Receiver enables you to listen to two pairs of speakers individually or in various combinations. Connect your main
left (L) and right (R) speakers to the corresponding "A" speaker terminals and use "Bnspeaker terminals for aremote
pair located elsewhere in your home. For all speaker connections, make sure that the phasing is correct. L/R terminals
on the amplifier must be connected to the plus (+) terminal on the speaker, and likewise GIG terminals for the negative
( -) terminal.
Speakers between 4and 16 ohms impedance can be used in only one pair of speakers is used, but if two pairs of speakers
are connected, make sure that each speaker has aminimum impedance of 8ohms for safe Receiver operation.
13. AC OUTLETS (I SWITCHED +IUNSWITCHED)
A"SWITCHED" outlet can be used for your Turntable.
An "UNSWITCHED" outlet is not affected by the power switch in the front panel and can be used for acassette deck.
NafE: These AC outlets are provided only for USA and Canada demands.
14. AC INPUT CORD

Front Panel Controls------------------'
I. POWER SWITCH
To turn the power ON, depress this switch, then POWER INDICATOR will come on. To turn the power OFF, depress
this switch again.
If no sound comes from either channel after the unit is switched ON, check whether the AC power cord is accidentally
disconnected, POWER FUSE or SPEAKER FUSES on the rear panel are blown, SPEAKERS switches are incorrectly
positioned or TAPE MONITOR switch has been accidentally depressed
2. POWER INDICATOR
Lights when the unit is in operation.
3. HEADPHONE JACK
Stereo headphones can be plugged into this jack for private listening or monitoring. For private listening, set the SPEAKERS
switches to OFF. Headphone impedance should be between 8and 2,000 ohms. Best results between 200 and 400 ohms.

4. SPEAKERS SELECTOR SWITCH
This switch aJlows you to select various combinations of speakers as follows;
1) To activate "Main" speakers only connected to "A" speakers terminal on the rear panel, push "A" switch in only.
2) To active "Remote" speakers only connected to "8" speakers terminal on the rear panel, push "8" switch in only.
3) To activate both "A" and :'8" speakers, push "A" and "8" switches in.
4) To activate Headphones only for private listening or monitoring, push both "A" and "B" switches off.
S. BA CO TROL
Modifies the low frequency sound of left and right channels as much as ± 10 dB. Set this control at asuitable position
for your taste and room acoustics.
6. TREBLE CO TROL
MocUfies the h.igh frequency sound of left and right channels as much as ± 10 dB. Set this control at asuitable position
for your taste and room acoustics.
7. BALA CE CO TROL
For balancing the relative sound of the left and right channel speakers. Sliding to the lower side reduces the volume
from the left speaker,
slicUng to the upper side reduces the volume from the right speaker.
8. SUBSO IC FILTER
In ON position, frequencies below 20 Hzsubsonic frequencies are attenuated by 12 dB/octave cutoffcharacteristic. Although
such subsonic frequencies are inaudible to the human ear, they can cause intermodulation distortion and even damage to
the loud speakers.
It is advisable t9 leave this switch in ON position at all times in PHONO operation, even if no record
rumble
etc. is heard.
9. FM MUTE/MODE SWITCH
This switch in pushed-out position will allow you to listen STEREO signal in FM mode and simultaneously suppress

interstation hiss (MUTING-ON state). In this' mode; the weak' stereo'FM reception will-be switched to MONO mode
automatically; if you wish to receive such stations in stereo, check the direction
of FM antenna or an outdoor antenna may
be required. In this mode, the desired weak
or distant:FM stations may be muted along with the hiss noise, too; if you wish
to pick up such stations, push this switch in to permit reception of the weak stations in the less noisey MONO mode and
tune adesired station
in MANUAL tuning mode.
10.
WUDNESS
To compensate for the response of the human ear at low listening level known as the Fletcher-Munson hearing curve,
the low frequencies are automatically boosted when the switch is in ON position, IN OFF position the frequency response
is flat at all volume levels.
11. TAPE MONITOR SWITCHES
This switch permits playback or monitoring of Tape Deck connected 10 the TAPE IN jacks on the rear paneL Depress-
ing this switch will.select your Tape Deck as alistening source regardless of the position of the input selector switch.
If your Tape Deck is equipped with separate recon:Jing and playback heads, you may monitor directly from the tape
being recorded as arecording quality check. That is, it is possible to hear whether the recording is equivalent to the
source being recorded by depressing this switch in and out repeatedly. In all other cases, leave this switch in the OUT
position.
12. INPUT SELECTOR
Switch for selecting desired program sources; AM, FM, AUX/CD or PHONO.
13. VOLUME CONTROL
Sliding this control upward increases the volume of both channels.
14. LED DOT FREQUENCY DISPLAY
This 18 LED dot indicator will display the tuning frequency joining with the illuminated linear dial scale.
Tlre dot display will flicker while scan tuning and jump to the next dot in up or downward direction, and go on as the follow-
ing frequency table;

IS. MEMORY BUTION
This button is used for entering the frequencies of FM and AM stations into each of 5station memories (16).
When you touch this button. MEMORY indicator will light for 6seconds and it allows you to enter the FM or AM
station just tuned into any number of the STATION ADDRESS (16) during this interval. For exampl~ if you want to
memorize aFM station just tuned into STATION ADDRESS NO.2. touch MEMORY button (15) first (then MEMORY
indicator will light) and touch the STATION ADDRESS NO.2 button in sequence, the MEMORY indicalOr will come off
immediately, indicating that FM station has been memorized into ADDRESS NO. 2.
In AM, the procedure is the same as the FM case except changing band to AM by pushing AM button (I2).
16. STATION ADDRESS NO. BUTIONS
This Receiver enables you to memorize each of 5stations for both FM and AM bands, totally 10 stations. These soft
touch buttons are used for the MEMORY and RECALL of the FM and AM stations. See OPERATION page for more
details.
17. UP/DOWN TUNI G BUTION
To scan the tuning frequency up or downward from the just tuned station, touch the UP or DOWN button. This UPIDOWN
tuning button also has the function of selecting the scan mode by touching technics as follows:
AUTO SCAN TUNING _
If you depress the UP or DOWN tuning button for longer than Isecond and release it, scanning will automatically con-
tinue up or downward until the next station is picked up. If scanning reaches to the ends of the band frequency, it will be
automatically reversed.
MANUAL SCAN TUNING _
If you wish to make minor adjustment from the just tuned station, touch the UP or DOWN bulton for shoner than I se-
cond, then the tuniRg frequency will remove by one channel up or downward whenever the UP or DOWN button is touch-
ed while the LED dot nickers at every touching.
SKIPPING _
If you wish to tune astation far from the just tuned station, keep depressing the UP or DOWN button and release it at
near astation you wish to tune, then the dot display will rapidly remove and stop at that station automatically.
18. SIGNAL STRENGTH INDICATORS
Indicates relative signal strengh of AM or FM stations. Useful in the orientation of antennas.

19. FM STEREO INDICATOR
Automatically lights up when" FM station broadc:asts in STEREO. On weak or distant STEREO station, the Receiver
is automatically switched into aMONO mode to reduce noise.
Operations-------------------
LISTENING FM BY AUTO SCANNING
J. Push the POWER switch (1) to turn on the power.
2. Push the FM band selector (12).
3. Leave the MODE switch (9) at the pushed-out position as STEREO mode.
4. ;ranch the UP or DOWN tuning button (17) until you get astation you wish to listen. Refer to the item NO. 17 of the
FRONT PANEL CONTROLS section.
LISTENING WEAK FM STATION
I. Push the FM band selector (12).
2. Push the MODE switch (9) to MONO, then FM muting will be released to permit reception of the weak stations as the
less noisy MONO mode.
3. Touch the UP/DOWN tuning button (17) as the manual tuning mode until you get a desired station. Refer to the item
NO. 17 of the FRONT PANEL CONTROLS section.
NaTE: If a weak desired station is skipped in AUTO scanning, we recommend you try to improve the antenna first
(check the position and/or direction of your indoor dipole antenna or an outdoor antenna may be required). See
item 4 of REAR PANEL CONNECTIONS.
LISTENING AM STATION
Operations are the same as the
FM case except changing band to AM by pushing the AM button (12).
HOW TO MEMORIZE (PRESET) &RECALL ASTATION
1. Remember that this Receiver enables you to memorize totally 10 stations; 5stations for FM and another 5sta-
tions
for AM.
2. To memorize the desired FM stations, select maximum 5frequencies from your desired stations, tune one by
one either by AUTO or MANUAL tuning, touch MEMORY button (15) and STATION ADDRESS NO. I (16)
in sequence for the first selected FM station. Repeat touching MEMORY button and STATION ADDRESS
NO. buttons in sequence as your next selected station is tuned.
3. To memorize the desired AM stations, the procedures are the same as those of above FM case except change
band to AM band by touching AM button (12).
4. To recall the memorized stations, select the desired band (FM or AM) and then touch only the STATION
ADDRESS NO..button to which you want to listen, then the memorized frequency will be displayed on the
LED DISPLAY (14) immediately.
NOTE: The memory of your Receiver is protected by alarge capacitor. If the power goes off or if the Receiver is
unplugged, the receiver will remember al1lO pre-set stations and the last station listened to for at least 5days.
