Physicalinstallation
TheES70/PI50MarineComputerisanindustrialcomputer.Itissmall,rugged,and
containsnomovingparts.Thismeansthatfans,harddisksandCDdrivesareomitted.
ThecomputerprovidesEthernetsockets,RS-232seriallines,andanumberofUSB
connectors.Theharddiskisreplacedwithasolidstatedrive(SSD).
TheMarineComputeriseasilymountedwiththebracketssuppliedwiththeunit.
Asmallexternalpowersupplyisprovided,andmustbeplacednearthecomputer.

Preparations
Twobracketsandeightboltsenclosed.Mountthetwobracketsatthebottomofthe
computer.
Procedure
Tomakesurethattheprocedureisfollowedcorrectly,andintherightorder,tickoff
eachtaskafteryouhavedoneit.

Locatethemostconvenientlocationforthecomputer.
Inordertoallowforfuturemaintenance,westronglyadvicethatyoumountthe
computerwithitsrearpanelavailableforimmediateaccess.
Note
Makesurethatyoucanaccessboththerearandfrontsideofthecomputerafterit
hasbeeninstalled.
2Observetheoutlinedimensiondrawing.
3Markthelocationofthesixholesprovidedonthetwobrackets.
4Mounttheunitusingsixboltsorscrews.
5Findasuitablelocationforthepowersupply.
6Securethepowersupplywithwirestraps,velcro,brackets,oranyother
meansappropriate.
7Connectthecables.
Note
Whenyouconnectthecables,makesurethattheyareallsecured,andableto
withstandthevibrationandmovementsofthevessel.

TheES70/PI50MarineComputerisprovidedwithWindows7®operatingsystem,
andalloperationalsoftwareinstalled.Thisincludesthedisplaysetup.However,the
computerwillautomaticallysensethedisplayyouconnectduringsysteminstallation,
andwhichvideooutputyouuse.Dependingonthesechoices,youmayneedtosetupthe
displayresolutiontotyourrequirements.
Twoproceduresareprovided.Oneisusedifyouwishtouseasingledisplay.Theotheris
usedifyouwishtosetupthecomputerwithtwodisplaysprovidingthesameinformation.
NotethattheMarineComputerappearstohavethreevideooutputs.Thisisnotthecase.
Output1doesnotexist,andmustnotbeused.
Thisprocedureisusedifyouwishtouseasinglecomputer.Itcanbeconnectedto
eithertheVGAorDVIoutput.

TheES70/PI50MarineComputerisprovidedwithWindows7®operatingsystem,
andalloperationalsoftwareinstalled.Thisincludesthedisplaysetup.However,the
computerwillautomaticallysensethedisplayyouconnectduringsysteminstallation,
andwhichvideooutputyouuse.Dependingonthesechoices,youmayneedtosetupthe
displayresolutiontotyourrequirements.
Twoproceduresareprovided.Oneisusedifyouwishtouseasingledisplay.Theotheris
usedifyouwishtosetupthecomputerwithtwodisplaysprovidingthesameinformation.
NotethattheMarineComputerappearstohavethreevideooutputs.Thisisnotthecase.
Output1doesnotexist,andmustnotbeused.
Thisprocedureisusedwhenyouwishtousetwodisplays.Youmustthenconnectone
displaytotheVGAoutput,andonedisplaytotheDVIoutput.
Note
ThevideooutputstreamontheVGAoutputcanbeinhibitedbeforethedisplaysetuphas
beendone.Thiswillcausethedisplayscreentoturnblack.Theimagewillreturnwhen
thesetupprocedurehasbeencompleted.

IftheES70/PI50systemisprovidedwithacomputer,itisdeliveredwithallnecessary
softwareinstalled,conguredandtested.Ifyouuseyourowncomputer,youmustdo
thisyourself.
SoftwareupgradesareusefulifyourES70/PI50fails,andyoususpectasoftwareerror.
AnupgradeisalsorequiredwhenevertheES70/PI50softwareismodied.
Tocheckwhichsoftwareversionyouhave,observetheAboutdialogopenedfromthe
Displaymenu.
Ifyouexperienceproblemsduringasoftwareinstallationorupgrade,writedownthe
installationparameters.RemovetheES70/PI50softwareentirely,thenreinstallfrom
scratch.

IfyourcomputerisnotttedwithaCDorDVDdrive,copythelesfromtheCDto
aUSBmemorystick.
3Observethattheinstallationprogramopens.
Iftheinstallationprogramdoesnotstartautomatically,usealemanagerto
accesstheCDorUSBmemorystick.Double-clickontheSetup.exeletostart
theinstallation.
4Allowtheinstallationprogramtorun.Followtheinstructionsprovided.
5Oncetheinstallationhasbeencompleted,double-clicktheprogramicononthe
desktoptostarttheapplication.
WhentheES70/PI50starts,youmayseeadialogrequestingpermissiontoupgrade
thermwareonthetransceiver.Thishappensifthermwareonthetransceiver
isolderthanthermwareprovidedasapartoftheES70/PI50software.Since
functionalityontheES70/PI50maydependonthermwareinthetransceiver,click

Unlessyouhavemadeanyhardwarechangesonyourcomputer,theexisting
softwarelicensewillbeused.

1Observetheoperatingsystem’sfunctionalityforsoftwareremoval.
Restoringsystemfrombackupimage
ThisprocedureexplainshowtorestoretheMarineComputeroperatingsystemsoftware
fromanimageUSBmemorystick.Theentireharddiskwillbeerased.A20GbC-
partitionanda10GbD-partitionwillbeestablished.Theimage.wimlewillthenbe
savedonthe“D”disk.
Note
Allcontentontheharddiskwillbeerased.
Thissystemrestoreprocedurewilltakeapproximately15minutes.
1Connectakeyboardandamousetothecomputer.
2InserttheUSBmemorystick(containingtheimage.wimle).
3Powerupthecomputer.
4ObservethatthecomputerbootsfromtheUSBmemorystick,andthatitcopiesles
fromthesticktotheharddrive.
5Afterapproximatelythreeminutes,observethatthecomputerrestartsautomatically
whenalltheleshavebeencopiedover.
6Observethatarestoreprogramisstarted,andthatthefollowingmessagesappear:

OncetheWindows7®operatingsystemhasbeeninstalled,eitherfromscratch,orfroma
restorediskorUSBmemorystick,itmustbeactivated.
YoumustactivateWindowswithin30daysofinstallation.Activationhelpsverify
thatWindowsonyourcomputerisgenuineandthatithasn’tbeenusedonmore
computersthantheMicrosoftSoftwareLicenseTermsallow.Inthisway,activation
helpspreventsoftwarecounterfeiting.Youcanactivateeitheronlineorbyphone.
Toactivateonline,you’llneedanInternetconnection.Activatingbyphonerequires
interactingwithanautomatedphonesystem.
