oil to each of the ho les ind i cate d in Figs . 5 and 6
and run mo ch in o for o short time.

LUBRICATION
On new mcchmes and mach•nes installed after
several w~eks of idleness, needle bor and tolc~up
lin kage should be otled by hand before u•ing. The
residual lubricant may have congealed or dis·
opp.cared entirely.

SETTING:

Pull rear bushing out { toward mach i ne pul ley )
by turning support sc rew in cloc kwise dir ect io n.
Then tighten set screw and lock nut secure ly.

Rcplact "V" belt and check adjustment.
ENGAGING ARM
CHECK:
Engaging arm should be adjusted so the "Y"
belt drops approximately 1/ 32 inch when machine
moves from "run" positio n to u stop" posit ion ( See
Fig. 15) .
SETTING:
Loosen pinch screw, Fig. 15, an d pos ition en-
gaging otm closer to or farther from start in g cop as
shown.

NOTE: Ch eck TENSION an "V" BELT. E xcessive
ti ghtness will not improve perfo rman ce of m ach ine
but MAY CA USE DAMAGE or excessive weor to

SAFETY DEVICES
CHEC K:
Th e safety inter lock should pre vent the work
cl omp from being lifted when mach ine is in ope r ation
and should prevent machi ne from start ing when work
clomp is raised.
SETTING:
Engage mach in e in nrun" pos tion and turn ana-
chire pulley over towa rd right until knife roller is
at extreme outw ard position on feed com as shown in
Fig. 18.
Loosen driving l&ver pi n ch screw, Fig. 19 ond
lift up on driven arm with sc rew drive r to bring lifting
lug against bock of bell cran k os shown.
Ma in ta in this position while tightening pinch
screw securely.
Then rotate machine pulley again until the point
is reached just befo re interlocking arm drops into
notch on pulley ("stop" position).

stop sho u ld be set to l imi t extreme dow n wa rd m ove~
ment of l eve r arm and ther eby ovoid binding of start i ng
lever r ock shaft when clamp lifter is ac t ivated befo re
machi nes goes into "stop" pos it ion.

TENSI ON RELEASER
CHECK:
When worlc clomp is raised, th e first upward move·
mcnl of t he lilting bar, Fig. 21, should separate the
tcnsio r 'l discs and r clooso t ensio n on n eed le thr ead.
SETT ING :
To adjust the te ns ion re l ease , fi rs t loose n the
set screw in costing be low tension regulator , Fig. 21,
ond move entire reg ulator all the way in . Tighten
tot screw.
Then loose n the screw in li ft ing link coi'Vlection
o nd set lifti ng link so thot it projcch app r oximately
1 /32 inch as shown. Tighten scre w.
Next, l oose n t he pi n ch sc rew in l ift ing <rr m (seo
in set) and pus h up on l ihing bar unti l tension discs
j ust begin to re l ease. Mai ntain th is p osit ion wh ile
tig htening pinch sc rew. MAKE CER T AIN lhot lilting
Ctm is against shoulder on rock shah.
WORK CLAMP FO OT LIFTER
SETT ING:
L oose n lifting bar clomp screw, Fig. 21, and
pos ilion foot l ifter approx ima tely 118 inc h b elow
crrn h cuk as shown in Fig. 22. Then tighten clonlp
screw.
THREAD WIPER
SETTING:
Loosen Niper support screw, Fig. 22 Jnd posi·
t1on wiper support so that slot tn body finger i5
horiJon tal. Tighten Niper support screw .
Position wiper wiro to clear needle bv oppro.x-
motely 1/16 inch.

OiECK:
The pull·ofl loop should drow sufficient thread
from tn.e un.vinder to complete the st1tc:1 pattern.
Al so, pull·ofl loop should not "whip" and moy be
controll ed by increc.sing or decreasing tens i on on
spring.

Adjustment:
First determine the position of the needle in re·
lotion to the clamping foot so that the feed carrier
bar
co n be returned to its origi nal position after
adjustment has be en m ad e, e. g., insert a piece of
paper under cla mpi ng foot, engage mac hine into
"run" positio n, t urn pulley over toward the right
$ido of machine slowly until ncedlo iu~t punctures
the paper, then turn pulley over toward left side of
machine lo r-aise the needle. Leave poper under the
clomp during adjustment as this will indicate the
original position of the needle.
To adjust, l oosen lateral pivot driving arm pinch
screw and driving arm pinch screw, Fig. 30A, ond
position foed pl ate carrier bar so it is cente red lat-
era lly across the cy li nder (or center of cla mp ng
feet is o ligned with the needle).

lion. (A check coo be modo by lowering the needle
into puncture halo previously mode on poper.) Then
ti~tcn the d-ivin' arm pinch screw.
TO ADJUST LENGTH OF TACK
Adjustment:
Loosen t he lateral driving arm stud nut, Fig. 30A,
and slide stud too¥ard front or machine fo increoc•
tho length of tack (acron tho bee). To decrease the
length of tack, slide stud toward rear of mach ne.
Then tighoen stud nut.
NOTE: After his adjustment is made, it may be
necessary to adjust the food carrier bar in rel a-
tion to the needle o s instructed under CENTER-
ING LATERAL

Through access hole in right side of upright arm,
loosen the longitudinal rock shaft driving arm pinch
screw, F ig. 306, and move clamping foot forward or
backward in co rro cr rela ti on to the n eedle. Then re-
ti ghten the p inch sc rew.
