The pilot burners 190 series, have the features of standard (Fig.1-a) or top convertible (Fig.1-b)
pilot hood. They can be used, with specific injectors, with any kind of gas. They allow the assembly
of a thermocouple or Sense electrode, a millivoltage generator (thermopile) and a spark electrode.
Due to their versatility and ease of installation, they are suitable for universal use for domestic gas
appliances.
The pilot burners 199 series (Fig.1-c) have the features of standard or convertible pilot hood and
are delivered with preassembled pilot tube, thermocouple, or flame Sense electrode, thermopile,
and spark electrode.
Some of the available mounting brackets are shown in Fig.1.

When Installing This Product...
1. Read these Instructions carefully. Failure to the comply with the instructions may result in
damage to the product or cause a hazardous condition resulting in injury.
2. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the product to make sure the product is
suitable for your application.
3. Make sure the installer is a trained and experienced service technician.
4. After completing the installation, use these instructions to verify the product operation.

WARNING

Follow these warnings exactly
1. Disconnect power supply before wiring to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage.
2. To avoid a dangerous accumulation of gas, turn off gas supply at the appliance supply valve
before starting the installation procedure and perform the Gas Leak Test after the completion of
the Installation.
3. Do not bend pilot tubing at the gas valve or pilot burner after the compression nut is tightened.
Gas leakage at the connection may result.
Follow the appliance manufacturer instructions if available; otherwise, use the instructions provided
below.
Location
1. Locate the pilot burner for easy access and observation. If needed, replace the pilot burner with
an identical unit and place the new burner in the same position and orientation as the original
pilot burner.
2. Mount the pilot burner on the main burner. Mounting surfaces other than the main burner can
shift, bend or warp as the appliance expands and contracts while operating. See Fig. 2.
3. Mount the pilot burner so that the ignition flame remains properly positioned with respect to the
main burner flame. See Fig. 3

4. Supply the pilot flame with ample air that is free of combustion products.
5. Make sure that the pilot flames do not impinge on adjacent parts. Do not impinge the main
burner flame on the pilot burner.

6. Avoid pilot flame exposure to falling scale that could impair ignition of the main burner.
7. Do not expose the pilot flame to drafts that push or pull the pilot flame away from the thermopile
or thermocouple.

Pilot gas connection for 190 series
See Fig. 4a and 4b.
1. Square off end of tubing (12), clean, remove burrs and form it.
2. With olive (2), nut (3) and injector (6) in position (Fig. 4a and Fig. 4b) or pilot tube shear-off for
top convertible (5) in position (Fig. 4c), insert the tubing into the pilot gas connection until it
until it bottoms out and tighten the nut finger tight.
3. Hold tubing to prevent turning and tighten nut with a 13/32” (10 mm) wrench about one turn
beyond finger tight. Recommended torque: 57 lbf in (6.5 N m).
CAUTION
DO NOT USE JOINT SEALING COMPOUND.
DO NOT BEND TUBING NEAR FITTING AFTER TIGHTENING AS THIS
MAY RESULT IN GAS LEAKAGE AT CONNECTION.
DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED TORQUE FOR NUT.

recommended to use a tube bender.

Mounting of millivoltage generator (thermopile), spark electrode and thermocouple or flame
sense electrode
See fig. 6.
1. Place thermopile (4) in the hexagon shaped bushing hole on the left handed side of the bracket
and fix (some 0.199.700 pilot assemblies have brackets with reversed components and may be
on right side) the nut with a 7/16” (11 mm) open end wrench. Recommended torque: 35 lbf in
(10 Nm).
2. Place spark electrode (8) in the hexagon shaped bushing hole on the center of the bracket and
fix the nut (9) with a 13/32” (10 mm) open end wrench. Recommended torque: 35 lbf in (10
Nm). It is recommended to position pilot burner in the application in such a way that the spark
electrode is above or in center plane of the burner head: spark gap must be between 0.08 in
and 0.2 in (2 mm and 5 mm).
3. Place thermocouple (13) in the hexagon shaped bushing hole on the right ( some bracket
configurations are reversed and may be located on left side) of the bracket and fix the nut
(10) with a 13/32” (10 mm) open end wrench. Recommended torque: 35 lbf in (10 Nm). It
is recommended to position thermocouple in the application in such a way that the tip (hot
junction) is from 0.16 in and 0.32 in (4 mm to 8 mm) in center plane of the burner head flame.
Electrical connections.
1. Switch off power supply before making electrical connections, if applicable.
2. Wiring must be within local regulations.
3. Follow the instructions supplied by the appliance manufacturer.

GAS CONVERSION
Shut-off the gas supply to the appliance.
Allow the pilot burner to cool to room temperature.
Standard Pilot Hood
1. Using a 13/32” (10 mm) open end wrench (pilot tube assemblies require 7/16” (11 mm) open
end wrench), loosen the fixing nut (clockwise) as shown in Fig.7.
2. Remove the fitting connection and remove the injector (6) as shown in Fig. 8.
3. Install the new injector (6) in position, reinstall the fixing nut into pilot gas connection until it
bottoms and turn counterclockwise using the 13/32” (10 mm) open end wrench (pilot tube
assemblies require 7/16” (11 mm) open end wrench) as shown in Fig. 9. Recommended
torque: 57 lbf in (6.5 Nm).

CAUTION

USE CAUTION WHEN PLACING THE WRENCH TO AVOID BENDING INJECTOR.
Top convertible Pilot Hood
1. The pilot hood is held in place by spring pressure. Remove the hood by simply pulling it directly
up from the pilot bracket (fig. 10).
2. Insert a 5/32" (4 mm) Allen wrench into the hexagonal key-way of the injector (fig. 11), and turn
counter clockwise to remove it from the injector journal.
3. Verify that the new injector is proper for the application. The injector size is stamped on the side
of the injector near the top. LPG injectors have a groove machined around their circumference
near the top, while NG injectors do not have a groove (fig. 13).
Refer to the Appliance Manufacturer’s instruction sheet for the proper injector size.
4. Insert the Allen wrench into the end of the injector. Then, install the injector into injector journal,
and rotate the injector clockwise until a recomended torque of 9 lbf in (1.0 Nm) is achieved.
5. Replace the pilot hood by aligning the tab on the base of the hood with the slot in the side of the
pilot journal, and push the hood down, directly onto the pilot bracket (fig. 12). The hood must sit
squarely on the bracket for proper operation. Check to insure that the hood is properly seated
onto the pilot bracket.
6. Restore the gas supply to the appliance, and ignite the pilot burner.
Verify proper ignition and operation.

CAUTION
EQUIPMENT DAMAGE HAZARD.

USE CAUTION WHEN PLACING THE WRENCH TO AVOID BENDING INJECTOR.
Top convertible Pilot Hood (version with special spring)
1. The pilot hood is held in place by spring.
First remove the spring, then remove the hood by pulling it up from the pilot bracket (fig. 14).
2. Insert a 5/32" (4 mm) Allen wrench into the hexagonal key-way of the injector (fig. 15), and turn
counter clockwise to remove it from the injector journal.
3. Verify that the new injector is proper for the application. The injector size is stamped on the side
of the injector near the top. LPG injectors have a groove machined around their circumference
near the top, while NG injectors do not have a groove (fig. 17).
Refer to the Appliance Manufacturer’s instruction sheet for the proper injector size.
4. Insert the Allen wrench into the end of the injector. Then, install the injector into injector journal,
and rotate the injector clockwise until a recomended torque of 9 lbf in (1.0 Nm) is achieved.
5. First replace the pilot hood by aligning the tab on the base of the hood with the slot in the side
of the pilot journal, and push the hood down, onto the pilot bracket (fig. 16). The hood must sit
squarely on the bracket for proper operation.
Then replace the spring by pushing it on his seat (fig.16).
Check to insure that the hood is properly seated onto the pilot bracket and that the spring is
properly inserted onto his seat.
6. Restore the gas supply to the appliance, and ignite the pilot burner.
Verify proper ignition and operation.

Thermocouple or Thermopile Performance
Thermocouples and thermopiles require proper temperature differential between the hot junction
(tip) and cold junction (base) to provide satisfactory operation of millivoltage gas controls.
Thermocouples and thermopiles perform less effectively when exposed to excessive cold-junction
or hot-junction temperatures.
Excessive cold-junction temperatures can be caused by heat radiation from adjacent surfaces
or high ambient air temperature. Excessive cold-junction temperatures can be eliminated by
shielding the pilot flame or construct a shield to direct secondary air over the pilot burner base.
STARTUP AND CHECKOUT
Perform Gas leak Test
1. Ensure that the gas supply is turned on at the appliance supply valve.
2. Paint the pipe connections upstream from the pilot burner with a rich soap and water solution.
Bubbles indicate a gas leak.
WARNING
FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD.
CAN CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
CHECK FOR GAS LEAKS WITH SOAP AND WATER SOLUTION ANY TIME
WORK IS DONE ON A GAS SYSTEM.
3. If a leak is detected, tighten the pipe connections.
4. Stand clear of the main burner while lighting to prevent injury from hidden leaks that could
cause flashback in the appliance combustion chamber. Light the main burner.
5. With the main burner in operation, paint the pipe joints (including the adapters) and gas control
inlet and outlet with a rich soap and water solution.
6. If another leak is detected, tighten the tubing and pipe connections.
7. Replace the part if the leak can not be stopped.
Adjust Pilot Flame
The pilot flame should envelop 3/8 in to 1/2 in (10 mm to 13 mm) of the thermocouple or thermopile
tip.
To adjust the pilot flame turn the pilot adjustment screw on the gas control clockwise to decrease
or counterclockwise to increase the pilot flame.
Ignite Pilot Burner
1. Before lighting the pilot burner, turn the thermostat (if equipped) to its lowest setting. Wait for
unburned gas to vent.
NOTE: LP gas is heavier than air and does not vent upward. Smell for LP gas next to the floor. If
odor of gas is present, shut off main gas in the gas piping or at the tank. Perform the Gas
Leak Test to recheck the connections.
2. Light the pilot burner according to the appliance manufacturer Instructions.

PERFORM GAS LEAK TEST ANYTIME WORK IS DONE TO THE SYSTEM.

When replacing the thermocouple, use only a quick drop-out thermocouple as replacement if
originally equipped with this type. Follow instructions in the replacement thermocouple package.

THESE PILOTS MAY USE A QUICK DROP-OUT TYPE THERMOCOUPLE.
REPLACE IT ONLY WITH ANOTHER THERMOCOUPLE OF SAME TYPE.
Thermocouple Replacement
Excessive hot-junction temperatures can be eliminated by proper flame adjustment. To adjust the
pilot flame, see Adjust Pilot Flame.

Los quemadores pilotos serie 190 pueden ser pilotos de caperuza estándares (Fig.1-a) o con
la parte superior desmontable (Fig.1-b). Pueden ser utilizados con inyectores específicos, con
cualquier tipo de gas. Permiten el montaje de un termopar o electrodo sensor, un generador de
milivoltaje (pila termoeléctrica) y una bujía de encendido.
Por su polivalencia y facilidad de instalación, son adecuados para los aparatos a gas de tipo
doméstico.
Los quemadores pilotos serie 199 (Fig.1-c) pueden ser pilotos de caperuza estándares o con la
parte superior desmontable y montan, de serie, un tubo piloto, termopar o electrodo de detección
de llama, pila termoeléctrica y una bujía de encendido.
En la Fig. 1 se muestran algunos de los soportes de montaje disponibles.

que el producto sea adecuado para la aplicación.

ATENCIÓN

Respete estos consejos exactamente
1. Desconecte la alimentación eléctrica antes de la conexión, para evitar el riesgo de electrocución
o daños al equipo.
2. Para que no se acumule gas, cierre la alimentación de gas con la válvula de alimentación del
aparato antes de comenzar la instalación, y haga la prueba para detectar las fugas de gas
después de concluir la instalación.
3. No curve el tubo piloto en la válvula del gas o en el quemador piloto una vez que la tuerca de
compresión esté apretada. Podría producirse una pérdida de gas en la conexión.
Respete las instrucciones del fabricante del equipo si estuvieran disponibles; en caso contrario,
utilice las instrucciones dadas más abajo.
Posición
1. Sitúe el quemador piloto en una posición en la que sea fácil acceder y hacer la inspección.
En su caso, sustituya el quemador piloto con un componente idéntico, y coloque el quemador
nuevo en la misma posición y con la misma orientación que el quemador piloto original.
2. Monte el quemador piloto en el quemador principal. Las superficies de montaje podrían
curvarse o combarse, cuando el aparato se dilata y contrae durante el funcionamiento. Véase
Fig. 2.
3. Monte el quemador piloto de manera que la llama de encendido esté adecuadamente situada
con respecto a la llama del quemador principal. Véase Fig. 3.

4. Alimente la llama piloto con aire sin humos de combustión.
5. Controle que las llamas pilotos no toquen las piezas adyacentes. No haga que la llama del
quemador principal toque el quemador piloto.

6. Evite que la llama piloto quede expuesta a la caída de detritos que podría afectar la ignición del
quemador principal.
7. No exponga la llama piloto a corrientes de aire que muevan la llama piloto lejos de la pila
termoeléctrica o del termopar.

Conexión de gas al Piloto para serie 190
Véanse Figs. 4a y 4b.
1. Limpie, elimine las rebabas y conforme con una forma cuadrada el extremo del tubo (12).
2. Con la tuerca de oliva (2), tuerca (3) e inyector (6) en su posición (Fig. 4a y Fig. 4b) o racor
bicono del tubo piloto para el modelo con parte superior desmontable (5) en su posición (Fig.
4c), introduzca la tubería en la conexión de gas del piloto hasta el fondo y apriete la tuerca a
mano.
3. Sostenga el tubo para que no gire y apriete la tuerca con una llave 13/32” (10 mm) una vuelta
más del apriete manual. Par recomendado: 57 lbf in (6.5 N m).
ATENCIÓN
NO UTILICE COMPUESTO SELLADOR DE UNIONES.
NO CURVE EL TUBO CERCA DE LA CONEXIÓN DESPUÉS DE
APRETAR, PORQUE PODRÍAN PROVOCARSE PÉRDIDAS DE GAS.
NO EXCEDA EL PAR DE TORSIÓN RECOMENDADO PARA LA TUERCA.
