7. Usage
The Slootsmid macerator is designed to prevent the coulter injectors for clogging and protects the
displacing element pump.
8. Handling
The Slootsmid macerators normally are attached to a slurry tanker or pumping installation. When
assembling of disassembling you have to pay attention to the weight of the macerators!

9. Assembly
The Slootsmid macerator is placed before the pump of vacuum tanker in the suction line. It is attached
with flanges (pay attention to packing seal). The macerator can be placed in every position, only make
sure that the hydro- or electro-motor is never placed on top! This will damaged the bearing. Also
never assembly the macerator with the cover to the top, this can realize that heavy parts stay on the
rotor. The best way to assembly the macerator is with the hydro motor to the side and the cover to the
front (see image)
The right way to assembly the macerator is that the manure comes in the macerator at the side of the
comb (see image below). In this way the manure will be sucked through the comb and knifes. The
rotor cuts the thicker parts of the manure.

Blz. 8
Because of the rotor and flow of the manure there is hardly any pressure difference.
When attaching the hydro motor pay attention to the correct way it turns (see images below). The
hydro motor works optimal when the oil flow is 40 litres per minute. Pay attention to the diameter of
the hydraulic lines. We advise a diameter of ½”.
Frequently check the returning pressure. This may be 20 Bar max. When the pressure is higher a
separate leakage line should be assembled (1/4 attachment). Pay attention that the size of the nipples
make sure this is correct and use as little connections as possible.
The prevent turning back of the rotor assemble a non-return valve in the hydraulic line. We also advise
to install a pressure gauge in the hydraulic line. When the macerator is filled up the pressure rises.
Then it is necessary to clean out the cutting filter (see appendix 1 hydraulic scheme).

Blz. 9
10. Starting up
Before the macerator is put in to use first check all the connection bolts and lines, these have to
tightened. Then put on the hydraulic charge. In the macerator a soft rubbing noise can be heard. When
a loud noise occurs stop the macerator immediately (see tuning).
Always turn on the macerator before you turn on the pump!
Check the sense of rotation, wrong rotation can damaged the macerator.

Blz. 10
11. Tuning
All Slootsmid macerators are adjusted at delivery. When changes in the adjustment occur during
assembly this can be readjusted. If you have any problems contact Slootsmid.
The closing tension of the cover can be adjusted by turning in or out the hinges and clamp closing.
When the macerator is in use it may not have false air this realizes a longer filling time. The cutting
filter also can leak in that case.
The knifes in the macerator should rotate on both sides of the comb 0,5 mm (see image below) in
between. Frequently check the adjustment for correct cutting. The knifes should be sharp for good
cutting.
When sharpening the knifes make sure the stay straight not round (see image below). Make sure the
comb stays straight and the edges sharp.

Blz. 11
12. Assembly and disassembly
Before you start assembling or disassembling the macerator always stop the hydro- or electro-motor
and the engine of the tractor. Also take out the key and make sure no pressure is present in the
hydraulic lines and no pressure of the manure is present.
Then the cover can be opened. Check if the rotor stands still!
The comb can be disassembled by unscrewing two nuts on the inside.
The rotor can be disassembled at unscrewing the side plate. Then the rotor can be taken out with the
hub and hydro motor.
The cutting knifes from the rotor are universal and can be switched ones before they have to be
sharpened. If you want to take out the knifes you have to remove the axle stump by screwing out the
socket head screw (see image below).
When assembling pay attention to the connection of the sense of rotation of the hydro motor.
Take the screw to
disconnect the knifes.

Blz. 12
13. Maintenance
Frequently using the device:
Clean the cutting-filter every day
Clean the bearing house and grease the hub
Exchange the bearings of the hub every year
When the machine is in shelter:
Clean the inside of the macerator. Remove dirt.
Grease the rotor, comb and knifes.
Grease all the lubrication point.
Exchange damaged hydraulic lines

Blz. 13
14. Interruptions
When repairing always use original Slootsmid parts, available through the Slootsmid dealers.
We ask you to inform us de numbers on the rating plate when you order spare parts for your device.
