3. CLEANING YOUR GAS COAL EFFECT FIRE
3.1 ALWAYS ENSURE THE FIRE IS COLD BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY CLEANING.
3.2 The brass trim supplied with your fire is lacquered and must not be cleaned with
an abrasive cleaner. Use only a soft clean cloth.
3.3 Do not use any solvents on any painted surface of your fire.
3.4 The minimum clearance from the edge of the fire to a combustible surface at the
side of the fire should be 150mm and if a shelf is installed above the fireplace it should
be no closer 150mm to the top of the fire.
3.5 Should any soot accumulation become excessive, the fuel effect pieces should be
removed from the fire for cleaning. Cleaning should be carried out in a well-ventilated
area or in the open air, by gently brushing with the pieces held away from your face so
that you avoid inhaling the dust. We do not recommend the use of a normal domestic
vacuum cleaner, which may blow dust back into the air.
3.6 It is recommended that the appliance be serviced annually by a competent person
when any debris from the chimney and any soot formed should be removed in
accordance with good RCF handling procedures.
3.7. RELAYING YOUR GAS COAL EFFECT FIRE.
Only use the 17 large and 7 triangular coals supplied with your fire. Do not increase or
decrease this number of coals. If any of the coals become dislodged, it is important
they are replaced in the same manner in which they were installed.
4) ASSEMBLING THE CERAMICS AND LAYING THE COALS
4.1 Remove the ceramic components from their packaging and check contents and
that they are not damaged. Also remove base board from the fire, taking care not to
damage the long, thin fibre burner situated near the front and just behind the front
coal block. To ensure release of fibres from these RCF articles is kept to a minimum,
during installation and servicing, we recommend that you use HEPA filtered vacuum to
remove any dust accumulated in and around the fire, before and after working on the
fire. When replacing these articles we recommend that the replaced items are not
broken up, but are sealed within heavy duty polythene bags, clearly labelled as RCF
waste. This is not classified as "hazardous waste" and may be disposed of at a tipping
site licensed for disposal of industrial waste. Protective clothing is not required when
handling these articles, but we recommend you follow the normal hygiene rules of not
