Chapter 1 – Introduction
Thank you for purchasing our PL-85PEW, 85Mbps HomePlug Wireless G Ethernet Adapter!
The PL-85PEW is a Homeplug 85Mbps Turbo with 802.11G Wireless LAN that transforms your
in-house power circuit into networking infrastructure with a Wireless LAN interface. Transforms
any plug socket into a WLAN connection. Ideal for anyone to extend their Wireless Internet
access or make an internal network. Surf the Internet and share data - and rest assured with the
best security from eavesdroppers through encryption on the power circuit and WLAN.
Built-in Quality of Service (QOS) features also provides the necessary bandwidth for multimedia
payloads including TV over IP (IPTV), higher data rate broadband sharing, Online-Gaming,
VoIP Calls, extending Wireless LANs coverage, Audio-Video transmission across the network
as well as Network camera connectivity.

1.3 HomePlug Wireless Adaptor Overview
1.3.1 Light Indicators and Ports
The HomePlug Wireless Adaptor has four light indicators (LEDs). See Figure 2 below.

Icon LED Status Description
ON When power is supplied to the PL-85PEW.
ON When detected and connected with another HomePlug
Adaptor within the network.
Flicker When the PL-85PEW is transmitting / receiving data.
Flash When the Wireless LAN is operational.
ON When the Ethernet cable is properly connected from your PL-
85PEW to the Ethernet Card.
Flicker When the Ethernet is transmitting / receiving data.
The Ethernet Port is a 10/100 Base-T Auto-MDI/MDIX (allows either cross or straight cable)
Ethernet jack (RJ-45) to connect to your Ethernet Network card or Ethernet Router/Modem or
Ethernet Hub/Switch.
The Reset button is used to reset the PL-85PEW to its factory defaults. To reset the PL-85PEW,
simply press the reset button for about 5 seconds (all customised settings that you have saved
will be lost!).

Chapter 2 – Setup The PL-85PEW
2.1 Configuring the PL-85PEW on existing network
NOTE: Please ensure that your computers Network Properties is set to the
subnet range 192.168.1.x or configure your DHCP server to allocate an
address to your PC in this range. The PL-85PEW User Guide contains
details on how to check this.
The following is explanation of configuring the PL-85PEW which is already running on an
existing network.

1. Exit all Windows programs. Insert the included CD-ROM (Setup Utility) into the CD-ROM
drive of your computer. If the CD-ROM is not launched automatically, go to your CD-ROM
drive (e.g. drive D) and double-click the Setup.exe file.

2. The Utility will search for the PL-85PEW.

3. If there is more than one PL-85PEW, the utility will prompted you to select the device that
you wish to configure.

4. Enter the SSID for the PL-85PEW. Click Continue.

5. Select the Wireless Security to be used. Click Continue.

6. Enter the WEP Key if you have selected 64bit WEP on Step 6. Click Continue.

7. Enter the WEP Key if you have selected 128bit WEP on Step 6. Click Continue.

8. Enter the WPA Key if you have selected WPA-TKIP on Step 6. Click Continue.

9. The Summary page will be shown. You can Print the summary or Save As a text file.
Click Apply to take effect the settings.

10. Once the Setup Utility has successfully configured the PL-85PEW, the page as shown in
Error! Reference source not found. will be displayed. Click Finish.
