I nst aller t ool The enclosed software DVD includes an I n st a ller t ool. You use
t his t o ascert ain w hich languages and m aps w ill be av ailable on
your navigation device.
I f you have purchased a version of t he Sony Personal
N a viga t ion Sy st em that doesn’t have any m aps on DVD, t hen
you can use this tool t o creat e a back-up copy of the m ap on the
navigat ion device.
1. Use ActiveSync®t o connect t he navigat ion device with your
com put er and insert t he DVD.

2. Then f ollow t he in st r uct ions on t he com puter screen.

Hardware keys Two hardware keys are locat ed at the top of the device:

Survey A software keyboard appears on t he screen when t ext ent ries are
necessary. Choose the character keyboard or t he m obile phone
keyboard.
You can use t he butt ons t o t oggle between t he keyboards.
Tap t his button t o t oggle t o t he m obile keyboard.
Tap t his but ton t o t oggle to t he character keyboard.

keyboard. But you m ay ent er capit al let ter s only.
You need not ent er sm all let t ers or special characters when
entering a dest ination's cit y or st reet nam e. The Sony Personal
N a viga t ion Sy st em replaces t hese characters aut om atically.
When you are looking for, e.g., a French city called "Héroïnès",
sim ply t ype " HEROI NES".
Your ent ry appears in t he field directly above t he keyboard. You
can see t he first data record that st arts wit h t he charact ers of
your ent ry.
The dat a record on t he button is part of a list of dat a records t hat
corresponds t o all y our previous entries. You can scroll t hrough
this list using t he butt ons
u p and dow n.
You can display m ore t han t hree dat a records at once by t apping
the button
.
You can discover m ore about using the List icon by referring t o
chapt er "List s" on page 12.

As on a m obile phone, each key is designed t o ent er sever al
let ters with it. The position of a let ter on a key caption indicat es
how oft en you m ust t ap t his key t o ent er t he respect ive let ter .
E.g., t o ent er an " S", t ap t he " PQRS" key four t im es.

Survey There are m any cases where you have t o select an ent ry from a
list .
For exam ple, if you have not ent ered t he full nam e of a locat ion.
Each tim e you ent er a character t he first found entry that start s
wit h the charact ers entered so far appears in t he t ext field.
A m axim um of t hree ent ries can be displayed above t he
keyboard. To view a longer list of suitable ent ries, t ap t he List
icon.
At t he end of t he list you will find ent ries t hat include t he
charact ers ent ered so far, but t hese characters appear in the
m iddle or t he end of t he word.
Marked list entry An entry in t he list is always m arked and shown on a butt on.
Addit ional inf orm at ion is oft en display ed in ex t ra lines. I n t h e
case of cit ies, t his inform ation would include the postcode and
the district associated wit h t h e cit y in quest ion.
The m arked entry can be chosen by t apping its button.

The NAVI GATI ON screen opens.
3. Tap Address.
The ADDRESS screen opens.

The software keyboard appears.
5. Enter t he let ter I .
The let t er I appears in t he input line above t he charact er
keys.
Above it, a button show s t he first city in t he database t o st art

I LLI is now display ed in t he input line.
Above t his a but t on shows the first city in t he database that
st art s with I LLI .
The second cit y st arting with I LLI is shown underneath the
but t on.

7. Tap on t he List icon.
A list of all t he cities t hat start with I LLI is displayed. The cit y
on t he button is m arked.
The end of t he list gives all t he cities that include I LLI in t heir
nam es.
8. Tap t he Dow n button until I LLI OPOLI S appears on t he icon.
9. Tap on I LLI OPOLI S.
The ADDRESS screen opens. I LLI OPOLI S is entered in t he Cit y
or ZI P field.

You can use t his icon to stop navigation.
Map vie w
Tap on this butt on t o return to the standard map view. From
there you can open t he MEN U by t apping on any point in t he m ap.

current GPS st at us at any time.
Ba t t e ry con dit ion
The Ba t t e ry con dit ion icon is placed at t he top right corner of
the screen. The color of t he icon and t he sym bol displayed on it
have t he following significance:
Color/ Sym bol Significance
The device is connect ed t o an ext ernal
power supply. The batt ery is being
charged.
The charge state of t he batt ery is
su ff icien t .
The size of t he segm ent on t he
batt ery indicat es it s charge st at e ( 3/ 3
or 2 / 3) .
The device is being supplied by it s
int ernal battery. The charge st at e of
the battery is weak.
The size of t he segm ent on t he
batt ery indicat es it s charge st at e ( 0 or
1/ 3 ) .
A m essage window inform s you w hen
the charge state of t he battery
becom es insufficient .

GPS- St at u s
The GPS STATUS w indow includes inform ation about your current
locat ion and your current speed. You can also save your current
locat ion.
The GPS button is located on t he right half of the upper edge of
the screen. The different GPS- icon s h ave t he follow ing
significance:

N o signa l
No signal or only an insufficient GPS
signal is being received. This is the
case, e.g. if you are located in an
enclosed building.
GPS r eady
The signals are convenient. Navigat ion
m ay begin.
Tap on the GPS but t on.
The GPS STATUS window opens:

Current posit ion:

purposes.
HDOP Horizont al Dilut ion of Precision:
I ndicat es t he qualit y of posit ion
det erm inat ion . Th eoret ically any v alue fr om 0
t o 5 0 m ay occur. The sm aller t he v alue, t he
m ore accurat e is the posit ion determ ination
( value 0 = no dev iat ion from t he real
posit ion) . Values up t o 8 are conven ient for
navigat ion purposes.
