1. Before Deploying
Congratulations on the purchase of your Sophos Switch. This Quick Start Guide describes in short steps
how to connect your switch and do the initial configuration. Before you begin, please make sure you have
access to Sophos Central which is needed to manage your switch. Please ensure you have a valid license
to manage the switch.

2. Mount and Power Up the Switch
Mount the switch in the rack
If you want to mount the switch in a rack, please use the supplied rackmount kit for this device where
available. For instructions on how to mount your switch, please see the Operating Instructions under
www.sophos.com/get-started-switch
Connect the power cable and turn on the switch
Connect the power supply (where available) and/or supplied power cable to the switch and turn it on (if
unit has a power button). After a few seconds, the Power LED will start blinking and the switch will boot.
This process should take just a few minutes. After the boot-up is complete the Power LED will turn to
solid green.
Connect Grounding Cable (CS101-8x models only)
If ethernet cables are run between buildings or if the switch is used in a high lightning exposure area,
connect a safety ground wire to the grounding screw to provide additional protection from electrical
shock. If unsure of your electrical ground, consult an electrician.

3. Connect the Switch to your Network
Connect any port on the switch to the next-hop ethernet switch or Sophos Firewall. After powering on,
the switch will boot and attempt to get an IP address from a DHCP server (either from the Sophos firewall
or another DHCP server in your network).
If the switch is unable to get an IP address from a DHCP server and is not registered in Sophos Central
within 15 minutes, it will use a default IP address 172.16.16.239. To manually configure your switch,
adjust the network settings of your administration PC (PC/laptop) so that it is on the same network as
the switch. For example:
ÌIP Address: 172.16.16.230
ÌNetmask: 255.255.255.0
Connect your Administration PC/laptop to port 1 of the switch.
Open a browser and enter the IP address of the switch: https://172.16.16.239 and complete the setup
and configuration.
If you want to attempt registration with DHCP again, correct the fault that prevented the switch from
getting a DHCP assigned IP address and power cycle the switch either manually or via the switch
management interfaces (CLI or HTTPS web interface).
Please Note: If the switch is still unable to retrieve an IP address from the DHCP server it will use the
default IP address 172.16.16.239.
4. Set Up the Switch
a. Sign in to Sophos Central at central.sophos.com
If you don’t yet have a Sophos Central Account, please create one.
b. Register the switch in your Sophos Central account by entering the serial number.
Note: After powering on the switch, there is a 15-minute window to register the switch in Sophos
Central. If the network administrator does not register the switch within this time period, the switch will
have to be either hard rebooted or rebooted using the local web interface.
c. After the switch is registered in Sophos Central, it is upgraded to the latest firmware version.

5. Sign in to your Sophos Switch
Sophos provides users an option to sign in to the switch for advanced configuration. The advanced
options can be configured in the on-box web interface of the switch or through its command line
interface (CLI).
1.Register the switch in Sophos Central as mentioned in the above section.
2.An IP Address will be assigned to the switch from either Sophos Central or the DHCP server
3.Open a web browser on your computer enter the IP address and press enter.
4.In order to access the CLI or the web interface of the switch after registering it in Sophos Central, use
the default credentials with the username as "admin" and the unique password for this switch.*
6. Managing the Switch via the Console Port
1.Connect the switch console port (not available on CS101-8/8FP models) to a computer using the
console cable provided.
2.Launch any terminal emulation program, e.g., PuTTy
3.Select the COM port, and use the following settings:
Baud Rate: 115200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: None
4.Press Enter on your keyboard to connect to the CLI.
5.Sign in using the username “admin” and the unique password for this switch.*

7. Connecting Power over Ethernet (PoE) Devices
All ports on PoE-capable switches can provide Power over Ethernet (PoE) to a connected PoE device
which conforms with the 802.3af (max. 15.4W) or 802.3at (max.30W) standards. Each port can provide
up to a maximum of 30 Watts.
Please note: If the total power consumption of all PoE-powered devices exceeds the power budget of the
switch, the PoE Max LED will turn on. The port with the highest number and the lowest priority (according
to the per-port priority settings configured), will no longer receive power and the PoE Mode LED for that
port will be turned off.
To avoid such situations, Sophos recommends calculating the number of connected devices based upon
their max. power consumption (see table "interfaces" above).

2. Switch montieren und einschalten
Switch im Rack montieren
Wenn Sie den Switch in einem Rack montieren möchten, verwenden Sie das für das Gerät mitgelieferte
Rackmontage-Kit (sofern verfügbar). Informationen zur Montage Ihres Switch entnehmen Sie bitte der
Betriebsanleitung unter www.sophos.de/get-started-switch
Netzkabel anschließen und Switch einschalten
Schließen Sie das Netzteil (sofern verfügbar) und/oder das mitgelieferte Netzkabel an den Switch an und
schalten Sie den Switch ein (sofern das Gerät über einen Netzschalter verfügt). Nach einigen Sekunden
beginnt die Power-LED zu blinken und der Switch startet. Dieser Vorgang nimmt nur wenige Minuten in
Anspruch. Nachdem der Switch hochgefahren ist, leuchtet die Power-LED grün.
Anschließen des Erdkabels (nur CS101-8x-Modelle)
Wenn Ethernet-Kabel zwischen Gebäuden verlegt werden oder der Switch in einem Bereich mit hoher
Blitzschlaggefahr verwendet wird, schließen Sie zum zusätzlichen Schutz vor elektrischen Schlägen ein
Sicherheitserdungskabel an die Erdungsschraube an. Wenn Sie sich bezüglich Ihrer elektrischen Erdung
nicht sicher sind, wenden Sie sich bitte an einen Elektriker.

3. Switch an Ihr Netzwerk anschließen
Verbinden Sie einen beliebigen Port des Switch mit dem Ethernet-Switch im nächsten Hop oder der Sophos
Firewall. Nach dem Hochfahren versucht der Switch, eine IP-Adresse über einen DHCP-Server abzurufen
(entweder von der Sophos Firewall oder einem anderen DHCP-Server in Ihrem Netzwerk).
Wenn der Switch keine IP-Adresse von einem DHCP-Server abrufen kann und nicht innerhalb von 15Minuten bei
Sophos Central registriert wird, verwendet er eine Standard-IP-Adresse 172.16.16.239. Um Ihren Switch manuell
zu konfigurieren, passen Sie die Netzwerkeinstellungen Ihres Administrations-PCs (PC/Laptop) so an, dass er sich
im gleichen Netzwerk wie der Switch befindet. Beispielsweise:
ÌIP-Adresse: 172.16.16.230
ÌNetzmaske: 255.255.255.0
Verbinden Sie Ihren Administrations-PCs/Ihr Laptop mit Port 1 des Switch.
Öffnen Sie einen Browser, geben Sie die IP-Adresse des Switch ein: https://172.16.16.239 und schließen Sie die
Einrichtung und Konfiguration ab.
Wenn Sie erneut versuchen möchten, sich mit DHCP zu registrieren, beheben Sie den Fehler, der verhindert hat,
dass der Switch eine DHCP-zugewiesene IP-Adresse erhält, und schalten Sie den Switch entweder manuell oder
über die Switch-Verwaltungsschnittstellen (CLI oder HTTPS-Webschnittstelle) aus und wieder ein.
Hinweis: Wenn der Switch immer noch keine IP-Adresse vom DHCP-Server abrufen kann, verwendet er die
Standard-IP-Adresse 172.16.16.239.
4. Switch einrichten
a. Melden Sie sich bei Sophos Central unter central.sophos.com an

b. Registrieren Sie den Switch bei Ihrem Sophos Central-Konto, indem Sie die Seriennummer eingeben.
Hinweis: Nach dem Einschalten des Switch haben Sie 15Minuten Zeit, um den Switch bei Sophos Central zu
registrieren. Wenn der Netzwerkadministrator den Switch nicht innerhalb dieses Zeitraums registriert, ist ein
Hard-Reboot des Switch erforderlich oder der Switch muss über die lokale Webschnittstelle.
c. Nachdem der Switch bei Sophos Central registriert wurde, wird er auf die neueste Firmware-Version aktualisiert.

5. Bei Ihrem Sophos Switch anmelden
Benutzer können sich zur Vornahme erweiterter Konfigurationen am Switch anmelden. Die erweiterten
Optionen können in der On-Box-Webschnittstelle des Switch oder über die Befehlszeilenschnittstelle
(CLI) konfiguriert werden.
1.Registrieren Sie den Switch bei Sophos Central, wie im obigen Abschnitt beschrieben.
2.Dem Switch wird von Sophos Central oder dem DHCP-Server eine IP-Adresse zugewiesen
3.Öffnen Sie einen Web-Browser auf Ihrem Computer, geben Sie die IP-Adresse ein, und drücken Sie die
Eingabetaste.
4.Um nach der Registrierung bei Sophos Central auf die CLI oder die Webschnittstelle des Switch
zuzugreifen, verwenden Sie die Standardanmeldeinformationen mit dem Benutzernamen „admin“ und
dem individuellen Kennwort für diesen Switch.*
6. Switch über den Konsolenport verwalten
1.Schließen Sie den Konsolenport des Switch (nicht verfügbar bei CS101-8/8FP) mit dem mitgelieferten
Konsolenkabel an einen Computer an.
2.Starten Sie ein beliebiges Terminal-Emulationsprogramm, z.B. PuTTy
3.Wählen Sie den COM-Portaus, und verwenden Sie die folgenden Einstellungen:
Baud-Rate: 115200
Datenbits: 8
Parität: Keine
Stoppbits: 1
Datenflusskontrolle: Keine
4.Drücken Sie die Eingabetaste auf Ihrer Tastatur, um eine Verbindung zur CLI herzustellen.
5.Melden Sie sich mit dem Benutzernamen „admin“ und dem individuellen Kennwort für diesen Switch an.*

7. PoE-Geräte (Power over Ethernet) anschließen
Alle Ports an PoE-fähigen Switches können über Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) ein verbundenes PoE-Gerät
versorgen, das den Standard 802.3af (max.15,4W) oder 802.3at (max.30W) erfüllt. Jeder Port kann bis
zu 30Watt liefern.
Bitte beachten: Wenn der Gesamtstromverbrauch aller PoE-betriebenen Geräte das Leistungsbudget
des Switches überschreitet, leuchtet die LED PoE max auf. Der Port mit der höchsten Zahl und der
niedrigsten Priorität (gemäß den pro Port konfigurierten Prioritätseinstellungen) wird nicht mehr mit
Strom versorgt, und die LED PoE-Modus für diesen Port wird ausgeschaltet.
Um solche Situationen zu vermeiden, empfiehlt Sophos, die Anzahl der angeschlossenen Geräte auf
Grundlage ihrer maximalen Leistungsaufnahme zu berechnen (siehe Tabelle „Schnittstellen“ oben).
