6. Do not block any of the ventilation openings. Install in accordance
with the manufacturer’s instructions.

9. Battery Compartment Door

This speaker is supplied with a strap to hang it from a shower
pipe, faucet, or hook on the back of the bathroom door.
CAUTION: DO NOT HANG THE SPEAKER FROM A SHOWER PIPE
THAT IS SLOPING DOWNWARD. THE SPEAKER COULD SLIDE
FORWARD AND FALL OFF THE PIPE, RESULTING IN PERSONAL
INJURY, DAMAGE TO THE SPEAKER, OR BOTH. IF YOU USE THE
STRAP TO HANG THE SPEAKER MAKE SURE THAT IT IS IN A
SECURE LOCATION AND THAT IT WILL NOT MOVE.
Note: Although this speaker is water resistant, it must not be
placed in the direct path of the shower stream.

Installing Batteries
1Open the Battery Compartment door on the
rear of the unit by lifting the tab and then
pulling the battery compartment outwards.
2Insert three (3) AA/UM-3/R6 batteries
into the Battery Compartment as shown. Be
sure to observe the polarity markings which
are engraved inside the battery
compartment. Alkaline batteries are
recommended for the longest playing time.
3Close the battery compartment door and
snap the tab back in place.
When the batteries are low, the Battery ow
indicator will blink three times rapidly with a
triple beep every minute. The unit will turn off
automatically when the battery is too low to
operate the unit.
CAUTION: Danger of explosion if battery is
incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or
equivalent type.
BATTERY PRECAUTIONS
Follow these precautions when using batteries in this device:
1. Warning – Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or
equivalent type.
2. Use only the size and type of batteries specified.
3. Be sure to follow the correct polarity when installing the batteries as indicated in the battery
compartment. A reversed battery may cause damage to the device.
4. Do not mix different types of batteries together (e.g. Alkaline, Rechargeable and Carbon-zinc) or old
batteries with fresh ones.
5. If the device is not to be used for a long period of time, remove the batteries to prevent damage or
injury from possible battery leakage.
6. Do not try to recharge a battery not intended to be recharged; it can overheat and rupture. (Follow
battery manufacturer’s directions.)
7. Remove batteries promptly if consumed.
8. Clean the battery contacts and also those of the device prior to battery installation.

devices will ask you to
accept the connection.

If the pairing fails, or to pair
another device, perform the

to enter the Pairing
mode. On the
Bluetooth device,
enable Bluetooth and
select “SHOWER
SPEAKER” from the
Device ist (see Step 2
above).
Pairing a Bluetooth Device

On some devices such as computers, once paired you must select
the unit from the Bluetooth menu and choose “Use as Audio
Device (stereo)” or similar.
Pairing remains intact when the unit and/or your Bluetooth device
is taken out of communication range. An active connection will be
re-established when your Bluetooth device returns within range.
Tip: If you want to connect your
Bluetooth speaker to another
Bluetooth audio device, you need
to disconnect current device first
and follow the steps at right to
make a new connection.

This unit is equipped with a
built-in microphone (located
on the front panel above the
indicators), which allows you
to make or end calls with a
connected mobile phone
through this unit. Make sure
your Bluetooth-enabled mobile
phone is paired with the unit.
When there is an incoming call
to the connected mobile
phone, you can do the
following:
To Use This Feature:
1. Press the button to answer the incoming call.
2. Press the button again to end call.
3. To reject the incoming call, press and hold the button.
4. To transfer the sound between the mobile phone and the unit, press
and hold the button during a call.
5. To redial the last number retained in the memory of the mobile
phone, press the button twice.
Notes:
• Re-dialing function is unavailable if there is no dial record feature in
your mobile phone.
• This unit will not operate or may operate improperly with some
Bluetooth mobile phones/audio players.
• If the conversation is not clear, try to move closer to the microphone
(located on the front panel above the indicators).

Should this unit exhi it a pro lem, check the following efore seeking
service:
No Power
• Power is not on; press the Power On/Off button to turn the
power on.
• Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
No Sound – General
• External device’s volume is set to minimum; raise volume.
• The SMI438BT’s volume is set to minimum; raise volume.
The Bluetooth device cannot pair or connect with the unit.
• You have not activated the Bluetooth function of your device. Refer
to the user manual of your device to activate the Bluetooth function.
• The unit is not in pairing mode. Press and hold the Bluetooth Pairing/
Play/Pause4;button until the Bluetooth indicator blinks fast.
• The unit is already connected with another Bluetooth device;
disconnect that device and then try again.
Unit acts erratically or does not react when uttons are pressed.
•Remove batteries, wait 20 seconds. Re-insert batteries and turn the
unit on again.

THE SINGING MACHINE COMPANY, INC. warrants this product to be free from
defects in material and workmanship for a period of ninety (90) days from date of
sale to the original consumer purchaser. Product will be repaired or replaced with a
new or reconditioned product at no additional charge if it is proven to be defective
within the ninety (90) day period when said product is returned at customer
expense within the warranty period. THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER ANY
EXPENSES INCURRED IN THE REMOVA AND REINSTA ATION OF THIS PRODUCT.
This warranty does not apply to any product damaged by accident, misuse, abuse,
improper line voltage, fire, water, lightning or other acts of God, or any parts or
services furnished by anyone else. The warranty does not cover cartons, carrying
cases, batteries, broken or damaged cabinets, or any items used in connection with
the product or consequential damage due to defect in the product. This warranty
does not cover products sold AS IS or Re-manufactured units or units sold outside
the SMC distribution channel.
