Battery
This
receiver
isnot
normallysuppliedwith
a
battery.
A
battery
ofthe
followingtype,
orits
equivalent,must
therefore
be
purchased
andfitted:—

Tofitthe
batt«ry,
first
make
surethat
the
receiver
is
switched
off.
Now
place
the
receiverfacedownwards
ona
soft
cloth,
unscrew
thetwo
securingscrews
atthe
back
ofthe
receiver,
and
lift
offthe
cover.Install
the
battery
as
shown
in
Fig.
1 and
clip
onthe
pressstud
connectors.Replace
the
back
cover
and
tighten
the
securing
screws.
Battery
Economy
This
receiveremploystransistorsthatconsumelittle
current.Therefore,yourbatterywilllast
a
long
time
andthe
cost
of
running
the
receiverwill
be
low.
More-
over,
youcan
extendbattery
life
evenfurther
by
running
thesetfor
shortratherthanlongperiods,
andbynot
letting
the
soundvolumeexceed
the
levelreallynecessary
for
comfortablelistening.
A
singlebatterywillprovide
manyhours
of
entertainment
ifyou
keep
the
volume
down
and
switch
offthe
receiverwhen
itisnot
wanted.

If
the
receiver
istobeoutofusefora
long
time,
the
batteryshould
be
removed
and
stored
ina
cool,
dry
placeuntil
itis
wantedagain.
Exhausted
batteries
can
becomeleaky
and
must
be
removed
from
the
batterycompartmentwhetherthey
are
tobe
replaced
or
not.
Aerial
The
receiver
is
fitted
with
an
internal
"
Ferroceptor
"
aerial
of
specialdesignprovidingexcellentsensitivity.
The
aerial
is
directionaland,after
tuning,
the
receiver
should
be
rotated
to
obtainmaximumstationvolumewith
minimuminterference.
An
aerialsocketwhichwillaccept
car
aerialplugs
in
general
useis
provided
onthe
right-
handside
ofthe
case
for
makingconnection
toa car
radioaerial.

Select
the
required
waveband
by
depressing
the
left-
hand
button
forthe
longwaveband
(1215-2000
metres);
the
right-handbutton
forthe
mediumwaveband
(187-555
metres).
Itis
unnecessary
to
switch
off
the
receiver
before
changingwavebands.

Tuning
Control
Using
the
tuningcontrol,tune
inthe
requiredstation,
adjusting
the
control
finallyto
obtain
the
mostpleasing
sound
quality.Rotate
the
receiver
to
obtainmaximum
programme
volume
and
minimuminterference.
Ina Car
When
the
receiver
is
used
ina carthe
screening
effect
of
the
bodyworkwillprobablymake
the
signal
too
weak
for
satisfactoryreception.
A
socket
is
provided
(see
"
Aerial"
page
2)so
that
ifan
aerial
isfittedtothe
carthe
receiver
maybe
connected
tothecar
aerial
for
betterreception.Operation
ofthe
receiverwillthen
be
as
alreadygivenexceptthat
it
will
no
longer
be
necessary
to
rotate
the
receiver
for
bestreception.
If
itis
intended
tousethe
receiver
with
thecar
enginerunning,suppressorsshould
befittedas
they
would
befora car
radioinstallation
to
keepignition
interference
toa
minimum.
Asan
additionalprecaution
the
radioshould
be
situated
asfar
from
the
engine
as
practical.
Earphone
A
highimpedanceearphone
(AF9110/11,
available
from
yourradiodealer)
maybe
connected
tothe
special
earphonesocketprovided
for
personallistening.Plugging
inthe
earphoneautomatically
cuts
outthe
internalloud-
speaker
and
considerablyreducesbatteryconsumption.
Provided
the
instrument
has
beenoperated
as
described
above,
it
should
give
entiresatisfaction.
Should
you
require
furtherinformation,

radiodealerfromwhom

was
bought
should
be
able
