The operator shall have certain qualifications before he/she can safely operate a
Stertil mobile column lift and these include ability in written or oral communications
as demonstrated by either a high school diploma or certificate of equivalence,
aptitude test or job experience. He/she must also have the ability to understand
the mathematical, mechanical and electrical principles of automotive lifts as
demonstrated by one of, or a combination of aptitude test, training program,
technical vocational school or job experience.
The owner/employer of the Stertil mobile column lift must ensure that the operator
of the mobile column lift must be instructed and trained in the safe use and
operation of the lift using the manufacturer provided instructions and warning
labels and the Automotive Lift Institute Publications, "Lifting It Right" and "Safety
Tips".
The lift that has been delivered to you contains the supply of operating
instructions, general safety information, safety tips and warning labels on the
control post. As an owner, or employer, it is requested that you display these
materials in a conspicuous location in the lift operating area.
The owner or employer shall appropriately document operator training by

Operation & Service Manual (V0) 18 Wireless
The supervisor or individual responsible for the work site or organization
respectively must ensure that the organization's safety guidelines are strictly
followed.
Failure to follow the safety instructions may lead to personal injury and damage to
the vehicle lift and vehicle.
3.2 Hazards
This section describes the potential hazards when working with the vehicle lift.
3.2.1 Electrical hazards
Precautions to be taken when working with electrical equipment:
Consider all circuits live until you have personally turned the power off and locked
the main switch. Also tag the main switch with a safety sign.
Keep your clothing, hands and feet dry.
Do not wear rings, watches, metal-rimmed glasses or jewelry when working
around electrical circuits.
Static electricity can harm electronic parts. Always ensure that you are earthed
when working on electronic parts.
Maintenance and repair activities on the electrical system of the vehicle lift may
only be performed by special trained electricians which are familiar with the
common and local electrical regulations in charge.

CAUTION
3.2.2 Mechanical hazards
Precautions to be taken when working with mechanical equipment:
Do not wear rings, watches, jewelery, ties or loose sleeves when working around
moving mechanical parts.
Keep long hair covered when working around moving mechanical parts.
Always use spare parts of a type and part number recommended by Stertil.
Running a vehicle lift with missing components can cause severe damage. Always
make sure that the vehicle lift is complete before attempting its operation.
3.2.3 Fall hazards
Precautions to be taken when working on assemblies at higher altitudes:
Identify potential fall hazards prior to each project and during a daily walk-
around.
Pay attention to hazards associated with routine and non-routine tasks.
Eliminate the need for fall protection where possible by rescheduling the task,
isolating the task, or changing the task.
Emphasize fall hazards unique to the site, such as open floor holes or shafts,
riser penetrations, and skylights.
Team up with other construction employers and employees to identify best
practices and share fall prevention solutions.
Chose the correct ladder for the task, read the instructions, and be sure that the
ladder is in good condition. Check for surrounding hazards, stable footing, and
the proper angle.
Identify skylights and make sure they are properly protected.
Contact your supervisor if you see fall hazards or have any other questions
about fall prevention. Do not work until unsafe conditions have been corrected.
