products, this unit has been manufactured to the high standards identified with
the SUMMIT name. We fully expect it to bring you many years of excellent

Appliance Safety
Your safety and the safety of others are very important to us. We have provided several
important safety messages in this manual. Always read and obey all safety messages.
Serious injury or even death can result if you do not follow these instructions. Safety
messages will tell you what the potential hazard is, how to reduce the chance of injury,
and what can happen if the instructions are not followed.
WARNING! To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury when using
your appliance, follow these basic precautions:
Use two or more people to move and install this appliance.
Plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet.
Do not remove ground prong, nor use a 3/2 adapter.

Do not use an extension cord.
This appliance is designed for free-standing installation only. It should not be
recessed or built in.
Use care not to plug into outlets controlled by wall switches.
Disconnect power before servicing.
After service, replace all parts and panels before operating.
Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable items in the area of this or any
appliance, as the fumes can create a fire hazard or explosion.
Use nonflammable cleaners.
Never unplug your appliance by pulling on the power cord. Always grip the plug
firmly and pull straight out from the socket.
Be careful not to roll over or damage the cord when moving the appliance.
Do not pinch, knot or bend the power cord in any manner.
Replace or repair any electric service cord that has become damaged or frayed.
Unplug the appliance before making repairs or cleaning. We recommend that
servicing be done by a qualified technician.
If your electricity goes off, follow this procedure:
Call your power company to see how long the power will be out.
If service is to be interrupted for less than 24 hours, keep the freezer closed as much
as possible. This will help the food stay frozen.
If service is to be interrupted for more than 24 hours, remove food and store in a
frozen food locker or other freezer.

Old appliances can represent a suffocation hazard to children.
Remove door(s) from your old appliance.
Leave shelves or baskets in place.
If an old appliance contains refrigerants, it must be recycled by a licensed
service or disposal agency.

Installation
When the appliance is to be moved, at least two people should participate. Grasp
the freezer firmly at the base and lift carefully while keeping the unit upright.
Never tilt it more than 45 degrees. Never turn the unit upside down or lay it on its
side, back or front. Never use the door handle as a support as this may damage
the hinges.
1. Install the freezer on a flat, solid surface so as to minimize noise caused by
vibration.
2. Allow for a free flow of air around the unit. A clearance of no less than 2½
inches must be left along the sides, top and back of the freezer.
3. Choose a location where there is no heat source nearby. Keep the freezer
away from direct sunlight, ovens, radiators, etc. In addition, the area should be
dry and free of damp, stale air.
Testing Before Use
1. Wipe the exterior and interior surfaces of the freezer with clear, lukewarm
water mixed with a little mild detergent. Wipe dry.
NOTE: Electrical components should be cleaned with a dry cloth.
2. Using a coin, turn the thermostat knob near the top of the freezer to the "MED"
position, then plug the freezer into the wall outlet. The compressor should
begin to run. Close the door.
3. Check after 30 minutes of operation to be sure that the freezer is cold.

Operation
Temperature Control
1. The temperature in the freezer is controlled by the thermostat which is located
on the right side of the control panel near the top of the unit. It is marked
TEMP CONTROL. Use a coin to change the setting of the thermostat.
2. The marks around the thermostat knob represent different temperature
settings. Setting "MIN" is the warmest and "MAX" is the coldest.
3. In normal use, the selector should be set to "MED" (medium).
Tips and Hints
Fresh foods such as fish and meat can be frozen to maintain freshness and
keep the nutrients in the food.
Food should be wrapped in aluminum foil or some other type of airtight
packaging.
Do not allow frozen food in freezer to touch foods just placed into freezer. This
can damage the food.
Frozen foods from the store should be placed in the freezer promptly, so they
do not thaw.
Never place fresh vegetables and fruits into the freezer as they can suffer
freezer burn.
FAST FREEZE
Fast freezing protects food from damage from large ice crystals that form
when food is frozen at a slow rate. With a fast freeze, smaller ice crystals form;
these do not penetrate the cell membranes of the food. This helps preserve
the nutrients and freshness of the food.

Note: Fresh fish and meat that will be stored for long periods of time should be
fast frozen.
To operate Fast Freeze, turn on the left-hand switch on the control panel by
pushing "―". The Fast Freeze indicator light will turn on, showing that the unit
is now in the Fast Freeze mode. Once the food is frozen, turn off the switch by
pressing "O". The light will turn off.
Note: While the unit is in Fast Freeze, the thermostat setting is overridden.
ALERT Light
The ALERT light on the control panel turns on when the temperature inside the
unit is different from the temperature set at the thermostat. The light will turn off
when the temperature is at or near the set temperature.
POWER Light
This light indicates that the unit is plugged in and receiving power.
Defrosting
When the freezer operates for a long period of time, the surface of the evaporator
and the drawers may become covered with a layer of frost. This frost will reduce
the energy efficiency of the unit, and make the freezer less effective. When this
frost forms, it should be promptly removed.
To defrost, unplug the freezer and place all items from inside into a frozen food
locker or another freezer. Either allow the frost to melt naturally from the warm air
in the room, or carefully use a plastic scraper. Finally, wipe away any remaining
ice and water, plug the freezer in, and return food to the freezer.
CAUTION: Never us sharp tools to chip ice away.
Precautions
1. The freezer should be positioned so that the plug is easily accessible.
2. This unit is intended for operation indoors, and is not intended for exposure
to rain.
3. Do not place hazardous or flammable materials inside, or directly next to, the
freezer.
4. Do not sit on the freezer, or place heavy objects on top of the freezer.

5. Connect your freezer to an independent power outlet. Make sure it is safely
grounded. The voltage should be limited to the range of 90V to 127V,
otherwise the motor will be damaged.
6. After a power outage, wait 5 minutes before turning the freezer on. Otherwise
the compressor may become damaged.
7. Always allow for proper air circulation to the back, sides and top of the unit.
Also, check that the packing base has been removed from the bottom of the
unit prior to operation.
8. Be sure to keep the electrical cable away from the compressor and
condenser, or its insulation could be damaged by high temperatures.
9. For best energy efficiency, open the freezer door as seldom as possible.
Frequent opening of the door requires extended compressor run time, which
increases energy consumption.
10. Clean the freezer after every defrost.
11. Do not touch frozen food with wet hands, as you may suffer frostbite.
12. Using an extension cord is not recommended.
13. Warning: Do not damage sealed systems, such as the refrigerant circuit.
14. Warning: Do not use electrical appliances inside the freezer.
15. Before disposing of the freezer at the end of its useful life, release the
refrigerant in the open air away from anything that could explode. Follow
local regulations in disposing of the unit.
16. Keep vents in the appliance or its enclosure open and clear of obstruction.
17. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an
authorized service agent in order to avoid a safety hazard.
18. Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting
process, other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

Care and Maintenance
Once a month, clean the freezer. See below for cleaning instructions. If you wish
to stop using the freezer for a long period of time, make sure you unplug it from
the outlet, remove all food, clean and dry the freezer and leave the door open to
eliminate any unpleasant odors.
Cleaning
1. Remove the electric plug from the power supply.
2. Wipe the inside and outside of the freezer with a soft cloth dampened with a
solution of mild, non-abrasive detergent in clean water.
3. Dry thoroughly before resuming operation.
In case of a power outage
If the freezer suddenly loses power, such as during a power outage, unplug the
unit as soon as possible to prevent a damaging power surge to the compressor
when electricity is restored. The compressor must be idle for at least five minutes
before it can be safely restarted by plugging in the unit.

Troubleshooting
If your appliance is experiencing operating difficulties, check this list of problems
and solutions first to avoid the cost of an unnecessary service call.
Appliance does not work at all
The power supply plug is not inserted in the wall socket or the plug is
loose.
Power may not be reaching the electric outlet being used by the freezer.
This can be checked by plugging a light or any other electric appliance into
the socket.
Appliance is running noisily
The freezer is not on a flat surface.
The freezer is in contact with a wall or other object.
Appliance does not cool sufficiently
The door has been opened too often, or has been left open for a while.
There is not enough clearance around the freezer.

checked all items listed as the cause and the problem still exists, then call

The following are part of normal operation and should not be a cause for
concern:
1. Refrigerant surging through the system produces a gentle sound like
water running in pipes.
2. When the atmosphere is humid, the outer surface of the freezer may be
covered with moisture which should simply be wiped away.
3. The compressor becomes very hot. Do not touch the compressor. Heat
around the door frame is normal.

WARRANTY
ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
Within the 48 contiguous United States, for one year from the date of purchase, when this
appliance is operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the
product, warrantor will pay for factory-specified parts and repair labor to correct defects in
materials or workmanship. Service must be provided by a designated service company. Outside
the 48 states, all parts are warranted for one year from manufacturing defects. Plastic parts,
shelves and cabinets are warranted to be manufactured to commercially acceptable standards,
and are not covered from damage during handling or breakage.
5 YEAR COMPRESSOR WARRANTY
1. The compressor is covered for 5 years.
2. Replacement does not include labor.
ITEMS WARRANTOR WILL NOT PAY FOR:
1. Service calls to correct the installation of your appliance, to instruct you how to use your
appliance, to replace or repair fuses or to correct wiring or plumbing.
2. Service calls to repair or replace appliance light bulbs or broken shelves. Consumable parts
(such as filters) are excluded from warranty coverage.
3. Damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, acts of God,
improper installation, installation not in accordance with electrical or plumbing codes, or use
of products not approved by warrantor.
4. Replacement parts or repair labor costs for units operated outside the United States.
5. Repairs to parts or systems resulting from unauthorized modifications made to the
appliance.
6. Expenses for travel and transportation for product service in remote locations.
7. The removal and reinstallation of your appliance if it is installed in an inaccessible location
or is not installed in accordance with published installation instructions.
