pumpoctane(r+m/2method).Insome
areas,theonlyfuelsthatareavailable
areoxygenatedfuels.
Oxygenatedfuelswhichmeetthe
minimumoctanerequirementandthere-
quirementsdescribedbelowmaybe
usedinyourvehiclewithoutjeopardizing
theNewVehicleLimitedWarranty.
NOTE:
Oxygenatedfuelsarefuelswhichcontain
oxygen-carryingadditivessuchasMTBE
oralcohol.
GasolineContainingMTBE
UnleadedgasolinecontainingMTBE
(methyltertiarybutylether)maybeused
inyourvehicleiftheMTBEcontentisnot
greaterthan15%.Thisoxygenatedfuel
doesnotcontainalcohol.
Gasoline/EthanolBlends
Blendsofunleadedgasolineandethanol
(grainalcohol),alsoknownasgasohol,
maybeusedinyourvehicleiftheethanol
contentisnotgreaterthan10%.
Gasoline/MethanolBlends
Avoidusingblendsofunleadedgasoline
andmethanol(woodalcohol)whenever

cumstances.Fuelsystemdamageorvehi-

Insomestates,pumpsthatdispense
oxygenatedfuelsarerequiredtobelabel-
edforthetype andpercentageofox-
ygenateandwhetherimportantadditives
arepresent.Suchlabelsmayprovide
enoughinformationforyoutodetermine
ifa particularblendoffuelmeetsthere-\
quirementslistedabove.Inotherareas,f
pumpsmaynotbeclearlylabeledasto
thecontentortypeofoxygenateandad-i
ditives.Ifyouarenotsurethatthefuelj
youintendtousemeetsthesere-
quirements,checkwiththeservicesta-
tionoperatororthefuelsupplier.
NOTE:
To help clean the air, SUZUKI recom-
mends you use the oxygenated fuels.
However,ifyouarenotsatisfiedwiththe
driveability or fuel economy of your ve-
hiclewhenyouareusinganoxygenated
fuel,switchbacktotheregularunleaded
gasoline.

Abuzzersoundstoremindyoutoremove
theignitionkeyifitisintheignition
switchwhenthedriver'sdoorisopened.

Tolocka frontdoorfromoutsidethe
vehicle:
a)Insertthekeyandturnthetopofthe
keytowardthefrontofthevehicle,or
b)Pushinthelockknobandholdthe
doorhandleupasyouclosethedoor.
Tounlocka frontdoorfromoutsidethe
vehicle,insertthekeyandturnthetopof
thekeytowardtherearofthevehicle.

Whenthelockleverisinthe"RELEASE"
position(2),thereardoorcanbeopened
frominsideoroutside.
RearDoorLock
Tolockthereardoor,insertthekeyand
turnitcounterclockwise.Tounlockthe
door,turnthekeyclockwise.
PowerRearDoorLock(IfEquipped)
Thepowerreardoorlockbuttonsare
locatedontheinstrumentpanel.By
pushingtheappropriatebuttonyoucan
lockorunlockthereardoorfrominside
thevehicle.
Alwayslockalldoorswhendriving.
Lockingthedoorshelpstopreventoc-
cupantsfrombeingthrownfromthe
vehicleintheeventofanaccident.It
alsohelpspreventunintendedopen-
ingofthedoors.

buttonwhentherearechildreninthe
vehicle.Childrencanbeseriously
injurediftheygetpartoftheirbody
caughtbythewindowduringopera-
tion.
DaydrivingNightdriving
RearSideWindow(2-doormodel)
Toopentherearsidewindow,movethe
lockleverforwardandoutward.Toclose
thewindow,pulltheleverinwardand
rearwarduntilitclicksintoposition.
Day-NightRearviewMirror(IfEquipped)
Toadjusttheinsiderearviewmirror,set
theselectortabtothedayposition,then
movethemirrorup,down,orsidewaysto
obtainthebestview.
Whendrivingatnight,youcanmovethe
selectortabtothenightpositionto
reduceglarefromtheheadlightsof
vehiclesbehindyou.

Thedriver'sdooralsohasa lockbutton
forthepassenger'swindow(s).Whenyou
pushinthelockbutton,thepassenger's
window(s)cannotberaisedorlowered
byoperatingeitheroftheswitches(2)or
(3),and(4)or(5)in4-doormodels.To
restorenormaloperation,releasethelock
buttonbypushingonitagain.

selectorsettothedayposition.
Onlyusethenightpositionifitis
necessarytoreduceglarefromthe
headlightsofvehiclesbehindyou.
Beawarethatinthispositionyou
maynotbeabletoseesomeob-
jectsthatcouldbeseenintheday
position.
OutsideRearviewMirrors
Adjusttheoutsiderearviewmirrorsso
youcanjustseethesideofyourvehicle
inthemirrors.
Thepassenger'ssidemirrorisa convex
(curvedsurface)mirror.Objectsseenin
thismirrorwilllooksmallerandappear
fartherawaythanwhenseenina flat
mirror.
Becarefulwhenjudgingthesizeor
distanceofa vehicleorotherobject
seeninthesideconvexmirror.Be
awarethatobjectslooksmallerand
appearfartherawaythanwhenseen
ina flatmirror.
PowerMirrorControl(IfEquipped)
Theswitchtocontrolthepowerrearview
mirrorsislocatedontheinstrumentpanel.
Youcanonlyadjustthemirrorswhenthe
ignitionswitchisinthe"ON"position.To
adjustthemirrors:
1)Movetheselectorswitchtotheleftor
righttoselectthemirroryouwishto
adjust.
2)Presstheouterpartoftheswitchthat
correspondstothedirectionyouwish
tomovethemirror.
3)Returntheselectorswitchtothe
centerpositiontohelpprevent
unintendedadjustment.

Neverattempttoadjustthedriver's
seatorseatbackwhiledriving.The
seatorseatbackcouldmoveunex-
pectedly,causinglossofcontrol.Be
surethatthedriver'sseatandseat-
backareproperlyadjustedbeforeyou
startdriving.
AdjustingSeatPosition
Theadjustmentleverforeachfrontseatis
locatedunderthefrontoftheseat,on
theoutboardside.Theadjustmentlevers
foreachsplitfoldingrearseatinthe
2-doormodelarelocatedunderthefront
andrearoftheseat,ontheinboardside.
Toadjusttheseatposition,pulluponthe
adjustmentleverandslidetheseatfor-
wardorrearward.Afteradjustment,try
tomovetheseatforwardandrearward
toensurethatitissecurelylatched.
Toavoidexcessiveseatbeltslack,
whichreducestheeffectivenessof
theseatbeltsasasafetydevice,make
surethatthefrontseatsandsplit
foldingrearseatsareadjustedbefore
theseatbeltsarefastened.

Thefrontandrearseatbackscanbead-
justedtodifferentangles.Toadjustthe
seatbackangleoffrontseats,pullupthe
leverontheoutboardsideoftheseat,
movetheseatbacktothedesiredposi-
tion,andreleasethelevertolocktheseat-
backinplace.
Toadjusttheseatbackangleofrearseats:
a)Pulluptheknobonthetopofa split
foldingseat.
or
Pullupbothknobsonthetopofa
onepieceseat.
Splitfoldingrearseatinthe2-doormodel

HEADRESTRAINTS(IfEquipped)
Walk-InTypeSeats(2-doormodel)
Thefront seatsarewalk-intype seats,
whichmovetoprovideeasyentrytoand
exitfromtherearseat(s).Youcanmove
awalk-inseatfromoutsidethevehicleby
pullinguptheleverontheoutboardside
oftheseat.Youcanmovethefront
passenger'sseatfrominsidethevehicle
bypullingontherearring.Whenyou
releaseawalk-inseat,itwillautomatically
slideforwardandtheseatbackwillfold
forward.
Beforereturninga walk-inseatto
itsnormalseatingposition,make
surethatthefeetofthepassenger
intherearseatareoutoftheway.
Afterreturningtheseattoitsnor-
malseatingposition,makesureit
issecurelylatched.
Headrestraintsaredesignedtohelp
reducetheriskofneckinjuriesincaseof
anaccident.
Adjusttheheadrestrainttotheposition
whichplacesthetopoftheheadrestraint
closesttothetopofyourears.
Neverdrivethevehiclewiththe
headrestraintsremoved.
*Donotattempttoadjustthehead
restraintwhiledriving.

RESTRAINTSYSTEMS

Pullupwardontherestrainttoraiseitto
thefirstposition.Toraiseithigher(orto
lower),pullupwardontherestraint(or
pushitdown)whilepushinginthe
release.
(Forfrontseatinthe4-doormodel)
Toraisetheheadrestraint,pullupwardon
therestraintuntilitclicks.Tolowerthe
restraint,pushdownontherestraint
whileholdinginthelocklever.Ifa head
restraintmustberemoved(forcleaning,
replacement,etc.),pushinthelocklever
andpulltheheadrestraintallthewayout.
(Forsplitrearseatinthe4-doormodel)
Theheadrestraintsdonothavedifferent
heightpositions;theyshouldremainful-
lyinserted.Ifa headrestraintmustbe
removed(forcleaning,replacement,etc.),
pushinthereleaseandpullthehead
restraintallthewayout.Toreinstall,ful-
lyinserttheheadrestraintwhilepushing
intherelease.

FrontandRearLap-ShoulderBelts
Pullthebuckletongueattachedtothe
seatbeltacrossyourbodyandpressitin-
tothebucklecatchuntilyouheara
"click".Thebucklecatchislocatedatthe
inboardsideoftheseat.Toreducetheriskof
slidingunderthebeltduringa collision,
positionthelapportionofthebeltacross
yourlapaslowonyourhipsaspossible
andadjustittoa snugfitbypullingthe
shoulderportionofthebeltupward
throughthelatchplate.
Thelengthofthediagonalshoulderstrap
adjustsitselftoallowfreedomofmove-
ment.Theseatbelthasanemergency
lockingretractor(ELR),whichisde-
signedtolocktheseatbeltonlyduring
asuddenstoporimpact.Tounfastenthe
belt,pressthereleasebuttononthe
bucklecatch.
NOTE:
The front passenger's seat belt and the
rear seat belts havs emergency locking
retractors(ELRs)thatcanbetemporarily
convertedtofunctionasautomaticlock-
ing retractors (ALRs). The ALR mode
should be used if you need to secure a
child restraint system in the seat. Refer
to the CHILD RESTRAINT section for
details.
SeatBeltInspection
Periodicallyinspecttheseatbeltstomake
suretheyworkproperlyandarenot
damaged.Checkthewebbing,buckles,
latchplates,retractors,anchorages,and
guideloops.Replaceanyseatbeltswhich
donotworkproperlyoraredamaged.
Thefront passenger'sseatlap-shoulder
belthasa smallloopofwebbinglightly
stitchedintothebeltundertheplastic
sleeve,asshownintheillustration.
Periodicallyinspectthebelttoseeifthe
loophasbeenpulledout(makingthe
"REPLACEBELT"label.visible).Ifthe
"REPLACEBELT"labelisvisible,youmust
replacethebelttohelprestoreoptimum
restraintsystemeffectiveness.

Besuretoinspectallseatbelt
assembliesafteranycollision.Any
seatbeltassemblywhichwasinuse
duringa collision(otherthana very
minorone)shouldbereplaced,even
ifdamagetotheassemblyisnotob-
vious.Anyseatbeltassemblywhich
wasnotinuseduringa collision
shouldbereplacedifitdoesnotfunc-
tionproperlyorisdamagedinany
way.
ChildRestraintSystems
Suzukihighlyrecommendsthatyouuse
achildrestraintsystemtorestraininfants
andsmallchildren.Manydifferenttypes
ofchildrestraintsystemsareavailable;
makesurethattherestraintsystemyou
selectmeetsFederalMotorVehicleSafe-
tyStandards.
Allchildrestraintsystemsaredesignedto
besecuredinvehicleseatsbylapbelts
orthelapportionoflap-shoulderbelts.
Wheneverpossible,Suzukirecommends
thatchildrestraintsystemsbeinstalledon
therearseat.Accordingtoaccident
statistics,childrenaresaferwhenproper-
lyrestrainedinrearseatingpositionsthan
infrontseatingpositions.

Whenusinga childrestraintinthefront
passenger'sseat,adjustthepassenger's
seatasfarbackaspossible.
Childrencouldbeendangeredina
crashiftheirchildrestraintsarenot
properlysecuredinthevehicle.When
installinga childrestraintsystem,be
suretofollowtheinstructionsbelow.
Installation-ChildRestraintwithnoTop
Strap
Installyourchildrestraintsystemaccor-
dingtotheinstructionsprovidedbythe
childrestraintsystemmanufacturer.If
youinstallthechildrestraintsystemin
thefrontseat,besuretoslidetheseat
totherearmostposition.Aftermaking
surethattheseatbeltissecurelylatched:
1)Pullalloftheremainingwebbingout
oftheretractor.Youwillheara click,
whichmeansthattheemergencylock-
ingretractor(ELR)hasconvertedto
functionasanautomaticlocking
retractor(ALR).
2)Allowtheextrawebbingtoretract,and
pullthewebbingtowardtheretractor
totakeupanyslack.Makesurethat
thelapportionofthebeltistight
aroundthechildrestraintsystemand
theshoulderportionofthebeltisposi-
tionedsothatitcannotinterferewith
thechild'sheadorneck.

Installation—ChildRestraintwithTop
Strap
Ifyouneedtoinstalla childrestraintthat
requiresa topstrap,followtheinstruc-
tionsbelow:
•For4-doormodel:
Haveyourdealerinstallthetopstrap
anchorbracketforyourchildrestraint
systemorcontactyourdealerforin-
structionsonhowtoinstalltheanchor
bracket.Anchoragesarelocatedon
eithersideoftherearoftheluggage
compartment.Oncetheanchor
brackethasbeeninstalled,installthe
childrestraintsystemasfollows:
1)Securethechildrestraintontherear
seatusingtheproceduredescribed
aboveforsecuringa restraint
systemthatdoesnotrequirea top
strap.
2)Hookthetopstraptotheanchor
bracketandtightenthetopstrap
accordingtotheinstructionsprovid-
edbythechildrestraintsystem
manufacturer.Whenroutingthetop
strap,besuretopassitbetweenthe
headrestraintandtherearseatback
asshown.
For2-doormodel
Iftherightfrontpassenger'sseatof
yourvehiclehasanadjustablehead
restraint,youcaninstalla child
restraintwhichreguiresa topstrapon
theseatbyfollowingtheinstructions
below.Iftherightfrontpassenger's
seatofyourvehiclehasanintegrated
headrestraint,thereisnoplacein
yourvehicletoinstalla childrestraint
whichreguiresa topstrap.
