Installation Instructions
Introduction
The T02-00004-0206 Rugged External Speaker (for 25W radios) and the T02-00004-0207 Rugged
External Speaker (for 30-50W radios) are installed in parallel with the radio’s existing internal
speaker. The external speaker can then be installed at some distance from the radio, or it can be
used to increase the volume of the audio from the radio’s existing internal speaker.
The speaker is supplied with a flying lead and a 5m extension cable. The cable connectors enable
the speaker to be easily removed and reconnected as required.
The flying lead connector is terminated with two receptacles. The receptacles supplied with the T02-
00004-0206 (for 25W radios) are different to those supplied with the T02-00004-0207 (for 30-50W
radios). Two spare receptacles are included with each kit, along with three mounting screws.
Installation
Remote Speaker Mounting
1. Choose a mounting position for the external speaker where it will not interfere with the opera-
tion of any vehicle controls. The speaker is waterproof (IP67), which means that it can also be
permanently mounted on the exterior of the vehicle.

fix the mounting bracket securely in the chosen location.
Notice Check before drilling that the drill will not damage any components or wiring behind the
mounting location. If precise positioning is required, pre-drill Ø3.0mm (1/8 inch) holes for the
supplied self-drilling screws. If the cable connector is exposed, it must be adequately protected
against water ingress.
3. Attach the speaker to the mounting bracket using the thumbscrews.
Notice Check that the speaker cable is protected from engine heat, sharp edges and from
being pinched or crushed.
4. Attach the 5m extension cable c to the external speaker cable f and run this extension
cable back to the radio.
5. Install the two receptacles d of the flying lead e into the radio power connector, as
described in “Power Connector Wiring”, below.
6. Attach the mating connector of the speaker extension cable to the flying lead connector h.
Power Connector Wiring
Insert the flying lead receptacles into the power connector socket, as shown in the diagrams below.
The positive remote speaker wire has a white stripe.
T02-00004-0206 External Speaker (25W Radios)
For the T02-00004-0206 external speaker (25W radios), insert the flying lead receptacles:
■insert the positive wire and receptacle into the position nearest the red wire
■insert the negative wire and receptacle into the position nearest the black wire.
T02-00004-0207 External Speaker (30-50W Radios)
Tait recommends using the insertion tool M81969/18-02 (Tait P/N 355-00001-00).
For the T02-00004-0207 external speaker (30-50W radios), insert the flying lead receptacles:
■insert the positive wire and receptacle into position d
■insert the negative wire and receptacle into position c
Cleaning
Use a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris from the speaker cone. This is accessed by using a T20
driver to remove the four screws holding the front panel.
