4 First Steps
·Insert your TXP module(s) into the TXP5016. Please make sure, that the ejector handle is
pushed up against the stop - a click can be heard and the red locking lever is in full upper
position:
In this position the TXP module is disabled!
Correct position
·Connect the power cord to your TXP5016 and switch it on. The green LED "Power ON"
must light up.
4.1 Network Configuration
The TXP5016 has an internal web server that is accessible via the RJ45 jack on the front
panel. The IP address of the TXP5016 is factory set to
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
This is a commonly used in Local Area Networks address range. In order to establish a
connection between the TXP5016 and your control PC, the IP address range must match and
must not conflict with other network devices.
Attention
In order to prevent network conflicts, it is strongly recommended to contact your System
Administrator for a free IP address and the appropriate subnet mask.
Note
The TXP5016 can be connected
·to the local area network (LAN) using the supplied standard patch cable or
·directly to the RJ45 jack of your PC using the supplied cross-over patch cable.
Both connections require the correct network address match.
Change the Network Configuration
The TXP5000 Series Administrator that comes with installation package, should be used for
this purpose and is accessible via the serial port of the TXP5016.
Switch on the TXP5016.
Connect the RS232C serial port (male DB9 connector on the front panel) of your TXP5016 to a
serial port of your PC using a null-modem cable.
If your PC has no serial port, you can use any commercially available USB-to-Serial Converter.
Connect it to the PC, the operating system recognizes the device and installs the appropriate
drivers.

Check the Windows Device Manager for the topic Ports (COM & LPT). Expand it and
remember the assigned COM port (here COM3):
Note
The TXP5016 serial interface works with a transfer rate from 9600 to 115200 bps, 8N1
protocol.
Make sure, the TXP5016 is switched on and the serial connection is made. Open from the Start
button the TXP Administrator:
Click Connect in the menu bar.
Select the connection type to Serial Line (RS232) and the Serial Port to COMx, as stated in
the device manager. Then click Connect. The TXP Administrator connects to the device and
reads out the device information.

Verification of the network configuration
Connect the TXP5016 to you LAN (normal RJ45 patch cable) or to the RJ45 connector of you
PC (cross-over cable). Now you can verify the LAN connectivity. Just type in the assigned to
the TXP5016 IP address in your browser. If the configuration was done properly, the browser
connects to the TXP5016 internal web server:
The TXP5016 is ready for operation now.
Remark
If you got after the TXP Administrator connect a warning like
click OK. Please see the detailed description of the TXP Administrator functions in section
Maintenance and Service.

5 Operating Instruction

5 Operating Instruction
5.1 Installing and Removing Modules
The TXP5016 and TXP modules are 'Hot-Swappable'. This means that the modules can be
detached, exchanged or installed during normal operation of the TXP5016.
·Loosen the two to four mounting screws on top and below the ejector handle
·Push the red button of the ejector handle and flip down the black ejector handle. This
pulls out the module from its internal plug.
You can now remove the module. If you do not insert another module, please close the empty
slot with a blind module to maintain a proper cooling air flow inside the unit. Tighten the two to
four screws.
Detaching the module leads to an automatic disconnect, if the module was connected and
operated by the control PC.
Note
In order to maintain a proper air flow for internal cooling, unused TXP slots must be covered by
blind modules!
Make sure, that
-the TXP5016 with inserted electronics module is switched on and connected either to the
LAN, using a standard ethernet patch cable, or directly to the PC, using the supplied
cross-over patch cable.
-the ejector handle of the inserted module is in the very upright position:
Yes!
No!
Now, the modules can be operated. Please see the individual TXP module manuals for
operation details.
5.2 Global Interlock
The TXP5016 comes with a "global" interlock that provides a safety function to all installed TXP
modules simultaneously. This safety function is module-dependent:
·TXP laser sources: opening the interlock, the laser emission is switched off.
·TXP combined current and temperature controllers: the laser current output is switched off.
·All other TXP modules (polarimeters, polarization controllers): no function.
The TXP5016 is delivered with an interlock plug. Install this plug for normal operation.
Alternatively, the global interlock can be used to activate the described above safety functions
to protect a running setup against external events, such as opening a protective cover, a lab
door or for use with an emergency switch.

Interlock Relay
The interlock relay connection is shown to the left.
This state applies when the interlock circuit is closed (normal operation).
When the interlock circuit is interrupted, the relay switches off and contacts 2
and 6 are connected.
The contacts 1-2-6 can be used for external signalization (optic or acoustic
warnings).
Interlock circuit
This is the standard connection of a closed interlock, as it provided
with the interlock plug that comes with the TXP5016.
The Constant Current output is supplied to the opto-coupler inputs
ALARM+ (pin 9) and ALARM- (pin 4).
In order to use the interlock e.g. with an emergency switch, this switch
should have an opener contact (active open) and be connected between pin 5 and 9.

5 Operating Instruction
17
Cascading the interlock of multiple TXP5016 mainframes
Up to five TXP5016 mainframes can be cascaded in order to use a
common interlock.
The interlock opens and the safety function of all cascaded
mainframes is triggered as soon as the current is interrupted. In
other words, an active-open switch should be placed then between
contacts 5 and 9 of the first mainframe.
Note
When cascading two or more TXP5016 interlocks, only one constant
current source must be used!
