• Level
• Drill with 1/2” drill bit
• 5/16-inch Hex (Allen) Wrench
• 5/16-inch Hex Drive Socket (to fit torque wrench)
• Torque wrench 5 – 50 ft. lb. range
• Marker or Pencil
• Tape Measure
• Blue (removable) Tread Locking Compound
The Tie Down Hatch Rail System is designed to
protect open rooftop access hatchways and to
provide grab bars for assistance in ascending
and descending the hatchway.

Corner Bracket Installation
Mounting holes are provided on the corners of
cap flashing of most roof hatches. If mounting
holes do not exist, you will need drill the holes.
NOTE: If the corner mounting brackets needs to
be mounted to the hatch curb, please contact our
office for bolt kit and installation instructions.
Tools needed for this step:
Drill with 1/2” drill bit
Marker
3/8” socket wrench
Hardware required for this step: Qty.
Corner Mounting Bracket (E) 4
Carriage Bolt (3/8”x1-1/8”) (F) 16
Threaded Nut Clip (G) 16
Place the corner mounting bracket in position as
show in Fig 3-1. Using the brackets as a drilling
template, mark the drill holes. Remove the corner
bracket. Drill (4) 1/2” mounting holes in the
capflashing. Fig 3-2
(CAUTION: Do not penetrate the roofing
material or inner wall of the roof hatch curb
when drilling.) Repeat this process on all four roof
hatch corners.
Fasten the 4 corner mounting brackets by sliding
the threaded nut clips over the mounting bracket
and behind capflahsing as shown in Fig 3-3. Leave
mounting bracket loose to enable pluming of the
vertical post.

Install Hatch Post
Swing Gate Post
Tools needed for this step:
3/8” socket wrench
Level
Hardware required for this step: Qty.
Hatch Rail Vertical Post (A) 3
Nylock Nut (3/8”) (H) 6
Carriage Bolt (3/8”x 3-1/2”) (I) 6
Install three post leaving the swing gate post for
last for installation.
Slide the carriage bolt though the mounting
bracket and hatch post. Secure with nylock nut.
Torque nuts to 20 ft lbs. Fig 4-2.
Using a level, plumb the hatch post while
tightening the threaded nut clips.

Swing Gate Pin (3/8”x3-1/4”) (K) 2

Hatch Rail Swing Gate Post (D) 1
Lay the Swing Gate Assembly tread brite side face
down. See Fig. 5-1.
Position the swing gate post at a 90 degree angle,
aligning the gate post holes with swing gate holes.
See Fig 5-2.
Hold the tension spring in place between the swing
gate hinge tabs. Slide the swing gate pin through
the tabs and spring out to the opposite side tab.
Secure pin with the safety pin. See Fig. 5-3. Repeat
for the second pin/spring mount.

Hatch Rail Swing Gate/Post (D) 1
Cross Over Bracket 1
Slide cross over bracket from the bottom of the swing
gate post. Loosely tighten the cross over bracket nut.
See Fig. 6-1
Mount the swing gate/post to the corner mounting
bracket shown on page 4 (Fig. 4-2). Using a level, plum
the post while tightening the threaded nut clips.
Adjust the swing gate width by removing the screws on
the back of the swing gate. See Fig. 6-2
Slide the gate outward so the gate stop is in contact
with the opposite vertical post. Replace the screws in
the back of the swing gate. See Fig. 6-3

Cross Over Bracket installation

5/16” Hex Key
Tape Measure
Hardware required for this step: Qty.
Cross Over Bracket (J) 7
Slide cross over brackets over vertical post as shown in
Fig 7-1. The lower cross over bracket should be
positioned approximatively 20 in. from the bottom of the
corner mounting bracket. Lightly tighten the 3/8” nut on
the cross over bracket.
The top cross over bracket should be positioned
approximatively 40 in. from the bottom of the corner
mounting bracket. Lightly tighten the 3/8” nut on the
cross over bracket.
Repeat the cross over bracket assembly for the remaining
vertical posts. Do not tighten brackets.

Hatch Rail System
Install Horizontal Hatch Rail

Tools needed for this step:
5/16” Hex Key
Level
Blue (removable) thread locking compound
Hardware required for this step: Qty.
Hatch Rail Horizontal Rails (B) 4
Install horizontal rails as shown in Fig. 8-1
Using a level, level the horizontal rails.
Tighten the 3/8” grub screw for the horizontal
rails. See Fig 8-2.
Using your hand, hold the bottom of the cross
over bracket with the hatch post. Do not move
the bracket.
Loosen the 3/8” grub screw from the hatch post.
Apply a layer of blue thread lock compound to the
thread on the cross over bracket. Fig 8-3.
Tighten the 3/8” nut. Repeat steps for all the
cross over brackets.
When installation is complete, visually check that
the posts are plumb and the horizontal rails are
parallel to each other.
Important
• Re-check every grub screw for tightness
• Check that the swing gate closes to
vertical post
