1. About this Manual
This manual describes the Tyco Miniray Handtools IR-1759 and IR-3104 and Controllers
ED-7-001, ED-7-002, ED-7-003, ED-7-004, ED-7-CONT-230/110V, ED-7-CONT-230/110V-
MK4, ED-7-Battery-Box-230/110V and ED7-BATTBOX-230/110V-MK4.
It is intended for use by trained operating and maintenance staff and assumes the equipment has
been supplied complete and is unmodified.
Previous manuals (EA934, EA1294) are only valid for previous tool designs. Refer to Tyco for
any technical queries.
How to Use This Manual
This manual gives information regarding the safe operation and maintenance of the equipment.
Before operating or maintaining the equipment you must read and understand Section 3. Safety
and Section 4. Installation.

2. System Description
The Miniray Handtool and Controllers combine to form a lightweight, medium duty, system for
low volume bench production and in-situ application of Tyco Soldersleeve terminations.
Contact your local Tyco office for further information.
Miniray Handtools
Do not touch or attempt to clean optical filter except by blowing dust off. (Refer to
the cleaning instruction on Page 6-5)
The Tyco Miniray heating tool uses infra-red energy derived from a quartz halogen lamp. The in-
ternal reflector assembly also contains an optical filter which reduces the amount of visible light
and UV radiation emitted thus reducing eye strain to the operator. The tool is normally used with
an external reflector assembly to ensure that energy is focused uniformly around the circumfer-
ence of the workpiece. The tool is used to install a range of Tyco Solder Sleeve termination prod-
ucts.

Outils à main Miniray

A cooling fan is mounted inside the hand tool and is used to maintain acceptable temperatures for
the internal components as well as for the external surfaces with which the operator may come in
contact. A duty cycle of 50% is permissible with a maximum heating time of 50 seconds.
The Miniray Handtools are supplied with cable and connectors ready to connect to any of the
Miniray Controllers. These Handtools can also be operated from a customer 24V AC/DC supply.
ED-7-00X Controllers
The ED-7-00X Controllers are used to provide an electrical supply to the Miniray Handtool. Six
versions of the Controller are available:
• ED-7-001 Programmable, 230V 50Hz
• ED-7-002 Programmable, 110V 60Hz
• ED-7-003 Manual, 230V 50Hz
• ED-7-004 Manual, 110V 60Hz
• ED-7-CONT-230/110V & -MK4 Triac Controller (manual).
• ED-7-Battery-Box-230/110V & -MK4 Controller (manual).
The Controllers are housed in sturdy metal cases and are designed to operate on a bench or table.
Programmable Controllers
The ED-7-001 and ED-7-002 Programmable Controllers can be used in either Manual or Auto-
matic modes.
Manual Mode
In the Manual mode the Controller operates as a simple switched supply for the Miniray Handtool
and is turned on and off by the trigger on the Handtool. In this mode the Controller always pro-
vides full power to the Handtool for as long as the trigger is depressed.
Automatic Mode
In the Automatic mode the Controller can be set to control the Miniray Handtool with one of twen-
ty stored programme sequences. Each sequence controls both the duration and level of the supply
voltage to the Handtool.
The sequence is started by pressing and releasing the trigger on the Handtool and continues until
automatic completion or until the trigger is pressed again.
The Automatic Mode ensures the same preset controlled heating sequence is applied to each in-
stallation.
In the Automatic Mode a ‘stand-by’ voltage of 3.6V is applied to the lamp whenever the Control-
ler is switched on.

Contrôleurs ED-7-00X

Contrôleurs programmables
Les contrôleurs programmables ED-7-001 et ED-7-002 fonctionnent en mode manuel ou auto-
nome.
Mode manuel
En mode de fonctionnement manuel, le contrôleur alimente l'outil à main Miniray lorsque la
détente est enfoncée. L'alimentation est coupée lorsque la détente est relâchée. En mode manuel,
le contrôleur alimente l'outil tant et aussi longtemps que la détente est maintenue enfoncée.
Mode autonome

Miniray à partir de 20 programmes en mémoire dans le contrôleur. Chaque programme contrôle

stante.
En mode autonome, la lampe est alimentée par une tension en attente de 3,6V lorsque le contrô-
leur est mis en marche.

Manual Controllers
The ED-7-003 and ED-7-004 Manual Controllers operate as simple switched supplies for the
Miniray Handtool and are turned on and off by the trigger on the Handtool.
The Controllers always provide full power to the Handtool for as long as the trigger is depressed.
The Triac Controller ED-7-CONT-230/110V (& - MK4) and the battery operated controller
ED-7-Battery-Box-230/110V( & - MK4) provide a controlled and regulated voltage to the lamp
in the Miniray hand tool while the trigger is depressed. This controlled voltage significantly im-
proves the life of the lamp and filter.
System Connections and Controls - Miniray Handtools
The Miniray Handtool has one connector and one operator control.
Input Connector
The input connector is a 7-pin ‘male’ plug at the end of the supply lead. The plug is fitted with a
locking ring and is connected to the output socket on any of the six Controllers.
ON/OFF Trigger Control
The function of the Miniray Handtool trigger switch is dependant on which Controller is being
used:
Programmable Controllers (ED-7-001/002)
If the Controller is in the Manual Mode and the trigger is pressed, full power is supplied to the
Miniray Handtool until the trigger is released.
If the Controller is in the Automatic Mode pressing the trigger starts the selected programme se-
quence (P01 to P20). Power and time to the Handtool is restricted to the values of that preset pro-
gramme. The programme continues until the preset time is reached OR until the trigger is pressed
again.
Manual Controllers (ED-7-003/004)
When the trigger is pressed, full power is supplied to the Miniray Handtool until the trigger is re-
leased.
Triac Controller ED-7-CONT-230/110V
The Triac controller can be operated from either a 220V-240V, or 110V-115VAC supply and will
automatically detect which supply voltage is connected.
The controller is switched on from the Miniray Handtool trigger maintaining operation while the
trigger is pressed. Once the trigger is released, or the maximum operating period of 50 seconds is
reached, the controller will automatically switch to a TIME OUT mode indicated by the green
‘ON’ LED changing to yellow. Further action of the Handtool is inhibited until the TIMEOUT
period has cleared. The length of the TIME OUT period will be the same as the ‘ON’ time.
It is possible to ‘pulse’ the tool tofinish an incomplete installation, provided the trigger is pressed
with 2 seconds.

Connexions et commandes des outils à main Miniray

Connecteur d'entrée
Il s'agit d'une fiche mâle de 7 broches située à l'extrémité du câble d'alimentation. La fiche est munie
d'une bague de retenue et peut être connectée à la prise femelle de n'importe lequel des quatre contrô-

Commande ON/OFF (marche/arrêt) de la détente
La fonction de la détente de l'outil à main Miniray varie selon le contrôleur utilisé:
Contrôleurs programmables (ED-7-001/002)
Lorsque le contrôleur est utilisé en mode manuel et que la détente est enfoncée, l'outil à main Miniray
est pleinement alimenté jusqu'à ce que la détente soit relâchée.
Lorsque le contrôleur est utilisé en mode autonome, l'enfoncement de la détente lance le programme
retenu (P01 à P20). La tension et la durée de l'alimentation sont restreintes aux valeurs établies dans le
programme. Le programme se poursuit jusqu'à ce que le temps soit écoulé OU jusqu'à ce que la détente
soit enfoncée de nouveau.
Contrôleurs manuels (ED-7-003/004)
Lorsque la détente est enfoncée, l'outil à main Miniray est pleinement alimenté. L'alimentation est
coupée lorsque la détente est relâchée.
Contrôleur Triac ED-7-CONT-230/110V
Le contrôleur Triac, pouvant être alimenté en courant alternatif 220-240V ou 110V-115V, détecte
automatiquement sa tension d'alimentation.
L'alimentation du contrôleur est établie avec la détente de l'outil à main Miniray, son fonctionnement
étant maintenu tant que la détente est enfoncée. Dès que la détente est relâchée, ou que la durée maxi-
maledeservicede50secondesaétéatteinte,lecontrôleursemetautomatiquementenmodeTIMEOUT
(temporisation), indiqué par le passage à la couleur jaune du témoin vert 'ON' (marche). Toute action de
l'outil à main est impossible tant que la période de temporisation TIMEOUT ne s'est pas écoulée. La
durée de la période de temporisation (TIME OUT) est égale à celle de la période de marche ('ON').
Il est possible "de palpiter " l'outil pour terminer une installation incomplète, si la détente est enfoncée
dans 2 secondes.

Battery Operated Controller ED-7-Battery-Box-230/110V & -MK4
This controller has the same function as the ED-7-CONT-230/110V. However the number of op-
erations is limited by the charge of the battery. TIME OUT is indicated by a yellow LED marked
with a clock symbol. The battery condition and charging indication are given by three additional
LED’s on the front of the controller, as shown in the Figure on Page 2-9.
System Connections and Controls - Miniray Controllers
The Miniray Controllers have two connectors and an ON/OFF switch. In addition the two
Programmable Controllers have operator key pads. See page 2.6
Mains Input Connector
The mains supply to the Controller is connected through a standard, IEC mains socket on the rear
panel. This socket has an integral ON/OFF switch.
Both live and neutral lines are fuse protected at the connector.
Handtool Connector
The output connector is a ‘female’ 7-pin socket on the rear panel. The socket includes a locking
ring and connects to the plug on the Miniray Handtool.
Operator Keypad
The operator capped allows the selection of Controller Mode (Manual or Automatic) and the
selection and programming of the 20 memories.

Connexions et commandes des contrôleurs Miniray
Les contrôleurs Miniray comprennent deux connecteurs et un interrupteur ON/OFF. Les deux
contrôleurs programmables sont également équipés d'un clavier. Voir la page 2.6
Connecteur d'entrée secteur
L'alimentation secteur du contrôleur est connectée à une prise secteur IEC sur le panneau arrière.
Cette prise est munie d'un interrupteur ON/OFF.
Les lignes neutres et sous tension sont protégées par fusible dans le logement du connecteur.
Connecteur de l'outil à main
Il s'agit d'une prise femelle de 7 broches située sur le panneau arrière. La prise est munie d'une
bague de retenue et reçoit la fiche de l'outil à main Miniray.
Clavier de l'utilisateur
L'utilisateur se sert du clavier pour choisir le mode de fonctionnement du contrôleur (manuel ou
autonome). Il s'en sert également pour sélectionner et programmer les 20 programmes en mémoi-
re.
