IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
1. READ INSTRUCTIONS -- All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the appliance is operated.
2. RETAIN INSTRUCTIONS -- The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.
3. CLEANING -- Unplug video monitor or equipment from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for
cleaning.
4. ATTACHMENTS -- Do not use attachments not recommended by the video monitor or equipment manufacturer as they may result in the risk of fire, electric
shock or injury to persons.
5. WATER AND MOISTURE -- Do not use video monitor or equipment near water -- for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet
basement, or near a swimming pool, or the like.
6. ACCESSORIES -- Do not place video monitor or equipment on an unstable cart, stand or table. The video monitor or equipment may fall, causing serious
injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the equipment. Wall or shelf mounting should follow the manufacturer's instructions, and should use a
mounting kit approved by the manufacturer.
6A. Video monitor or equipment and cart combinations should be moved with care. Quick stops,
excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the equipment and cart combination to overturn.
7. VENTILATION -- Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for ventilation, and to ensure reliable operation of the video monitor
or equipment and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the video
monitor or equipment on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. Video monitor or equipment should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register.
Video monitor or equipment receiver should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase unless proper ventilation is provided.
8. POWER SOURCES -- Video monitor or equipment should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure
of the type of power supplied to your home, consult your video monitor or equipment dealer or local power company. For video monitor or equipment designed
to operate from battery power refer to the operating instructions.
9. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION -- This video monitor or equipment is provided with a polarized alternating - current line plug (a plug having one blade
wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try
reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized
plug.
10. POWER CORDS -- Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate video monitor or equipment where the cord will be abused by persons
walking on it.
11. HEED WARNINGS -- Follow all instructions marked on the video monitor or equipment.
12. LIGHTNING -- For added protection for video monitor or equipment during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time,
unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the video product due to lightning and power-line
surges.
13. OVERLOADING --Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
14. OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY -- Never push objects of any kind into video monitor or equipment through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage
points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
15. SERVICING -- Do not attempt to service video monitor or equipment yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other
hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
16. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE -- Unplug video monitor or equipment from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the
following conditions:
A. When the power-supply cord or the plug has been damaged.
B. If liquid has spilled, or objects have fallen into the video product.
C. If the video product has been exposed to rain or water.
D. If the video product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions, adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating
instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore
the video product to its normal operation.
E. If the video product has been dropped, or the cabinet damaged.
F. When the video product exhibits a distinct change in performance -- this indicates a need for service.
17. REPLACEMENT PARTS -- When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer
or that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards.
18. SAFETY CHECK -- Upon completion of any service or repairs to this video product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to
determine that the video product is in proper operating condition.

SECTION 1
KAB SERIES PUBLIC ADDRESS UNIT
1.1 PURPOSE
This unit features:
•Universal Inputs - Universal inputs receive both MIC and line level signals. Each input is equipped
with a combination jack to accept both XLR and ¼" phone connectors.
•Four Output Zones - Four separate output zones can be switched on or off independently using the
front panel controls.
•+48V DC Phantom Power switchable on and off for inputs 1 and 2.
•Priority assignment for channels 1 and 2.
•Remote Chime - The chime can be triggered by using an external signal.
•External DC Input - Allows the unit to be connected to an auxiliary power source during periods of
unexpected power loss.
•Telephone Input & Music On-hold - Provides AM/FM Tuner output to a compatible phone system
when using the KAK1201 Tuner or the KAK1203 Tuner/Cassette module.
•LED output level meter.
•Two-band main equalizer.
•Connect the KAR1201 expansion cabinet to expand the number of KAK series accessory modules
which can be used with this mixer/amplifier.
1.2 INSTALLATION
1.2.1 Basic System Installation
Installation of the KAB series public address amplifier must be performed by qualified service personnel
in accordance with all local and national electrical and mechanical codes.
Remove all components from the package and identify the items that will be used during installation.
A. Mount the amplifier into a suitable rack and secure it using all four rack mounting screws.
B. Check the voltage marked on the rear panel of the unit to ensure that it matches the supply
voltage. Connect the amplifier to the power source using the cable supplied. Do not defeat the
third ground pin of this unit; doing so may place the user at risk of electric shock.
C. Connect the audio input signal to the proper channels. MIC signals connect to XLR, while line-
level signals connect to the ¼" connectors. To keep noise minimized, always use a balanced cable
for the input connection.
D. Connect the speaker(s) to the proper Output screw terminals. The “hot” wire should connect to the
screw terminal marked with an impedance which matches the impedance of the load, and the
“cold” wire connects to the “COM” screw terminal.
IMPORTANT - always check to make sure the speaker wires are large enough to
handle the output current of the amplifier.

1.2.2 Advanced System Installation
The following information will help you utilize the more advanced features of the KAB series public
address power amplifier.
A. The “DC IN” screw terminals are used to connect the KAB series mixer/amplifier to an alternate
power source, such as a battery, in the event of a power failure.
IMPORTANT - Always make sure you connect the proper DC voltage using the
correct polarity. Failure to do so will result in permanent damage to the device and
possibly the external power supply. Use a cable large enough to handle the current
requirements of the KAB series mixer/amplifier.

CONNECTION OF ANTENNAS AND GROUND CABLE
2.1 FM RECEPTION
Please remember that FM broadcast signals may be difficult to receive in low-lying areas, around
buildings and in iron-reinforced buildings.
2.1.1 Installation of Included Dipole FM Antenna
Connect the included dipole antenna to the 300 Ohm terminals on the rear panel of the KAR1201
expansion unit (see Figure 3). While listening to the reception, adjust the position of the dipole antenna
until optimum reception is received.
2.1.2 Installation of an Antenna Using 75 Ohm Coaxial Cable
In regions where reception may be weak, you may use a larger outdoor antenna. These types of
antennas usually feature a 75 Ohm coaxial connection. The KAR1201 expansion unit is equipped with
a 75 Ohm antenna connector on the rear panel.

2.2 AM RECEPTION
2.2.1 AM Indoor Antenna
Connect a cable (20 to 26 feet in length) to the AM terminal on the rear panel of the KAR1201
expansion unit. This cable should be routed away from power cables and fluorescent or neon lights
(see Figure 4).
2.2.2 AM Outdoor Antenna
For improved reception, you may install an outdoor AM antenna. Use a vinyl coated wire (20 to 26 feet
in length is optimum). Connect the antenna to the rear panel of the KAR1201 expansion unit.
2.2.3 Ground Cable (Earth GND)
Connect the grounding cable (GND) to the earth for safety and reduction of noise. (see Figure 4)

B.1 UNIT CONTROLS

TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES
C.1 GENERAL
If problems occur at the initial installation phase, verify the equipment has been wired properly and
installed in accordance with the procedures in this manual. Because this system can contain several
pieces of equipment, it may be necessary to verify each piece of equipment has been installed and is
operating correctly. Once the problem is isolated to a specific piece of equipment, refer to the specific
equipment manual for further information.
The following problems and solutions highlight basic troubleshooting guidelines. Refer to APPENDIX B
for connector and setting locations for the KAB series amplifier.

1. Inspect all connecting cabling for deterioration or other damage.
2. With power removed from the unit, clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh cleaners or
alcohol as they may damage the finish.

kräftige Bewegungen oder unebener Untergrund können zum Umkippen eines Rollgestells führen und somit die Geräte beschädigen.
7. BELÜFTUNG – Zur Belüftung der Geräte sind Schlitze und Öffnungen im Gehäuse an der Geräterück- bzw. -unterseite vorhanden, die vor
Überhitzung schützen und den zuverlässigen Betrieb der Geräte gewährleisten. Beim Aufstellen des Monitors muß darauf geachtet werden,
daß die Lüftungsschlitze und -öffnungen nicht blockiert oder bedeckt werden. Ungeeignete Aufstellungsorte sind deshalb ein Bett, Sofa, eine
Decke oder ähnliches. Monitor und Zusatzgeräte nicht auf Wärmequellen wie Heizkörper oder Warmluftauslässe bzw. in deren Nähe stellen.
Beim Einbau des Monitors bzw. Signalempfängers in Schrankwände oder ähnlichem muß für ausreichende Belüftung gesorgt werden.
8. SPANNUNGSVERSORGUNG – Die Betriebsspannung Ihres Monitors oder Zusatzgeräts entnehmen Sie bitte der Beschriftung am Gerät. Falls
Sie die Art der Spannungsversorgung am Aufstellungsort des Monitors nicht sicher wissen, wenden Sie sich bitte an Ihren Händler oder das
örtliche Stromversorgungsunternehmen. Hinweise zu batteriebetriebenen Monitoren oder Zusatzgeräten sind der jeweiligen Bedienungs-
anleitung zu entnehmen.
9. ERDUNG UND VERPOLSCHUTZ – Der Monitor bzw. das Zusatzgerät ist mit einem Netzstecker mit Verpolschutz ausgestattet. Der Stecker
paßt deshalb nur in einer Position in die Steckdose. Dies ist eine Sicherheitsmaßnahme. Läßt sich der Stecker nicht vollständig in die
Steckdose einführen, drehen Sie den Stecker um und probieren es erneut. Paßt der Stecker noch immer nicht in die Steckdose, wenden Sie
sich bitte an einen Elektriker, der Ihre
Steckdose austauschen kann. Manipulieren Sie unter keinen Umständen den Stecker, da Sie dadurch diese Sicherheitsfunktion außer Kraft
setzen.
10. NETZKABEL – Stellen Sie keine Gegenstände auf das Netzkabel. Stellen Sie den Monitor oder das Zusatzgerät so auf, daß niemand auf das
Netzkabel tritt.
11. WARNUNGEN BEACHTEN – Beachten Sie alle am Monitor oder Zusatzgerät angebrachten Warnungen und Hinweise.
12. BLITZEINSCHLAG – Zum Schutz des Monitors oder der Zusatzgeräte vor Blitzeinschlag und wenn die Geräte längere Zeit nicht benutzt
werden, sollte das Netzkabel aus der Steckdose gezogen werden und die Antenne und Verkabelung getrennt werden. So ist Ihr Gerät vor
Beschädigung durch eventuelle Spannungsspitzen und bei Gewitter geschützt.
13. ÜBERLAST – Die Steckdosen und Verlängerungskabel müssen vor Überlast geschützt werden, da sonst die Gefahr von Feuer oder eines
elektrischen Schlages besteht.
14. EINDRINGEN VON FREMDKÖRPERN UND FLÜSSIGKEIT – Stecken Sie keine Gegenstände durch die Öffnungen in den Monitor oder die
Zusatzgeräte, da diese spannungsführende Teile kontaktieren oder einen Kurzschluß auslösen könnten und die Gefahr von Feuer oder eines
elektrischen Schlages besteht. Achten Sie darauf, daß keine Flüssigkeit in das Gerät gelangen kann.
15. REPARATUR – Führen Sie keine Reparaturen am Monitor oder Zusatzgerät aus, da Sie sich durch das Öffnen bzw. Abnehmen der
Abdeckungen Gefahren durch Hochspannung aussetzen. Reparaturen und Kundendienst sind ausschließlich von qualifiziertem Fachpersonal

16. SCHÄDEN, DIE EINE REPARATUR ERFORDERLICH MACHEN – Ziehen Sie in folgenden Fällen das Netzkabel des Monitors oder

ELA GERÄT DER KAB SERIE
1.1 EIGENSCHAFTEN
Dieses Gerät bietet:
•Universelle Eingänge −Universelle Eingänge nehmen sowohl MIC Signale als auch Line Signale
an. Jeder Eingang ist mit einer kombinierten Buchse für XLR Stecker oder 6.35mm Klinkenstecker
ausgestattet.
•Vier Ausgangsbereiche −Vier getrennte Ausgangsbereiche können unabhängig voneinander durch
Bedienelemente an der Frontplatte ein- oder ausgeschaltet werden
•+48V−Phantom Spannung für die Eingänge 1 und 2 ein- und ausschaltbar.
•Zuweisung von Vorrang für die Kanäle 1 und 2
•Fernsteuerbare Tonfolge −Die Tonfolge kann von einem externen Signal ausgelöst werden
•Eingang für externe Gleichspannung −Ermöglicht den Anschluß des Gerätes an eine
Hilfsstromquelle, wenn mit Stromausfall gerechnet wird.
•Anschluß an das Telefonnetz & Einspielen von Musik für wartende Teilnehmer - Wenn der Tuner
KAK1201 oder das Kasettendeck KAK1203 eingesetzt wird, wird der Ausgang dieser Zusatzgeräte
einem kompatiblen Telefonnetz zu Verfügung gestellt.

•Schließen Sie das Erweiterungsgehäuse KAR1201 an, um die Anzahl der Zusatzgeräte der KAK

1.2 INSTALLATION
1.2.1 Installation des Systems
Die Installation von ELA Mischvollverstärkern der KAB Serie muß von qualifiziertem Bedienpersonal
nach örtlichen und nationalen elektrischen und mechanischen Bestimmungen und Normen
vorgenommen werden.
Entnehmen Sie alle Teile der Verpackung und identifizieren Sie die Einzelteile, die während der
Installation gebraucht werden.
A. Montieren Sie den Verstärker in einem geeigneten 19‘‘ Gestell und sichern Sie ihn mit allen vier
Gestellbefestigungsschrauben.
B. Überprüfen Sie die Spannungsangabe auf der Rückseite des Gerätes und stellen Sie sicher, daß
sie Ihrer Versorgungsspannung entspricht. Schließen Sie den Verstärker mit dem mitgelieferten
Kabel an das Netz.
C. Schließen Sie das Audio Eingangssignal an den richtigen Kanälen an. MIC Signale werden an die
XLR Buchsen, Line Signale an die Buchsen für 6,35mm Klinkenstecker angeschlossen. Für den
Anschluß der Eingangssignale sollten Sie immer symmetrische Kabel benutzen, um das Rauschen
gering zu halten.
D. Schließen Sie die Lautsprecher an den richtigen Ausgangsklemmen an. Der "heiße“ Draht sollte an
die Schraubenklemme mit der Impedanz angeschlossen werden, die der Impedanz der Last
entspricht, der "kalte“ Draht gehört an die "COM“ Klemme.
WICHTIG - Überprüfen Sie immer, ob die Lautsprecherkabel über genügend
Querschnitt verfügen um den Ausgangsstrom des Verstärkers aufzunehmen.

1.2.2 Weitere Installation des Systems
Die folgende Information hilft Ihnen, die fortschrittlicheren Eigenschaften der ELA Mischvollverstärker
der KAB Serie zu nutzen.
A. Die mit "DC IN" bezeichneten Schraubklemmen werden zum Anschluß der Mischvollverstärker der
KAB Serie an eine andere Stromquelle benutzt, z.B. eine Batterie bei Netzausfall.
WICHTIG - Stellen Sie immer sicher, daß Sie die richtige Gleichspannung mit der richtigen
Polarität anschließen. Wenn Sie das nicht tun, werden das Gerät und möglicherweise auch
die externe Stromquelle dauerhaft beschädigt. Benutzen Sie ein Kabel, das stark genug ist,
um den Stromanforderungen der Mischvollverstärker der KAB Serie zu entsprechen.
