1.1 Safety Instructions
1. To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or personal injury,please read and understand all instructions!
2. Keep this Manual for future reference.
3. Always unplug the power cord before inserting Hard Drive.
4. Keep this equipment away from humidity or any type of moisture.
5. Using a power supply with a different voltage rating will damage and void the warranty of this product.
1.2 Preliminary Tools
To install Hard Drive into your LANDISK,you need a cross screwdriver for following procedures.

1.3 Take a look to the LANDISK
1 STATUS LED: A blinking light indicates that the
LANDISK is functioning properly
2 LAN LED: A solid light indecates that the LAN port
is currently operating at 100Base-TX
3 CPU LED: A blinking light indicates that the CPU is
working properly.
4 HDD LED: A blinking light indicates that HDD is
reading/writing data
5 POWER LED: A solid light indicates that the power
supply is properly connected.

2.2 Minimum System Requirements
Internet Explorer 5.x or above; Apple Safari; Linux Mozilla or Netscape 6.2.x or above
Windows XP/2000/Me/98SE, Mac OS 10.3.X or above, Linux
New Hard Drive or old Hard Drive(FAT32).
Note: You can re-format your old hard drive by LANDISK’s Utility into FAT32(See Chapter 3).

2.3 Start To Assemble
Step 1. Unscrew all screws on back panel. Step 2. Take off the back panel.
Step 3. Pull out the LANDISK module from the
housing.
Step 4. Setting up your IDE hard drive as “Master/
Single” mode.If you are going to install a brand new
hard drive,please skip Step 4.If not,please refer to
the paperwork/sticker of your hard drive for “Master/
Single” configuration.If you are not familiar to the
configuration,the manufacturers’ Web sites are
often helpful.
Note: If you are installing an old hard drive and willing to keep all previous data, please make sure the
File System on your hard drive is FAT32. LANDISK does not support the File System other than FAT32.
Otherwise, you may need to re-format your old hard drive by LANDISK’s utility(See Chapter 3).

2.4 Connecting LANDISK to your Network
Step 1. Connect power adapter to the receptor at
back panel of the LANDISK and then plug the other
end of the power adapter to a wall outlet or power
strip.
Step 2. Connect the network cable to LAN port on
the back panel of the LANDISK.
Keep OFF
Step 3. Connect the other end of the network cable to LAN port located on your Switch Hub or
Router.
Note: The LAN Port on the LANDISK is Auto-MDI/MDIX,you can also connect the network cable
directly to the Lan port on your computer.It is not necessary to instead of crossover network cable
for direct link.

3.1 Checking TCP/IP Setting on PC
Bring up the properties of the “My Network Places”(Windows XP).
1. Double click the “My Computer” icon on your desktop.
2. Right click “My Network Places” and select the “Properties”
Note: For Windows 9x and Windows 2000, the “My Network Places” is on your desktop.

3. Right click “Local Area Connection” and
select “Properties”
4. The following screen will appear, select
“Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)” then click on the
<Properties> button
5. Follow the step as below to configuring your
TCP/IP settings.
Note for advance user: If you prefer to use a
Fixed IP for your computer, please also setting
up a Fixed IP for LANDISK.

3.2 Using WebControl Utility
Open your Web browser and type “http://LANDISK” or Default Hostname http://LANDIS-XXXX into the URL
address box and then press <Enter>.
The login pop-up dialog box will appear,please type
the following default username and password are:
Username: admin
Password: admin
Note: If you have attached only one LANDISK in the LAN,you can use the simple name of “LANDISK”
instead of the Default Hostname. You can find out the Default Hostname from the MAC Address sticker on
the back panel.The Default Hostname will look like “LANDISK-XXXX”, and “XXXX” which is mean the last
four digits of the MAC Address for current LANDISK.
Important: If you are going to attach an additional LANDISK(s) to your Network,please use the Default
Hostname instead of simple name.For example. http://LANDISK-XXXX.

Once you have logged in, the “LANDISK WebControl Utility” Home screen will appear.

3.3 Formatting Your Hard Disk
If you have installed a new hard drive in the LANDISK,you must go to “Disk Utility” for creating a new Partition
and doing format for the hard disk.
Note: For old hard drive,LANDISK Required a formatted File System of FAT32,if you have installed an old
hard drive with other File System,you may need to re-format it before you can access it from Network place.

3.4 Creating New Folders for Sharing
Click on the “File Manager” from the left side menu,you will see the page of “Folder Management”.
For old hard drive,you will see your existent Directories/Folders in the list box.
To create a new folder,plese type a name in the folder name box,and then click on the <Create Folder>
button.
Important: For creating or sharing folder(s) from “LANDISK WebControl Utility”,please always use the
alphabets in English, “LANDISK WebControl Utility” does not support the language other than English.
However,it’s no restrict for creating or naming folders/files from the SMB Client.

3.5 Setting Up Your Own Hostname
Click on the “Network Share” from the left side menu,the following page will appear.
You are allowed to change the default hostname of “LANDISK-XXXX” into your favourite name.If you’
ve changed the default hostname,please immediately try the new hostname to re-locate your LANDISK/
WebControl Utility.
Note: If you click on the <Reset> button from the page of “Maintenance”,the hostname will be Reset to
Default Hostname.

3.6 Sharing Your Folders to LAN
You will see all available folders for “Network Share” listed in the “Share List” box, just select your target folder
and click on the <-Add button for sharing the folder to Network.
Note: LANDISK use the SMB protocol(Samba) to share data to the LAN.

3.7 Access Files From LANDISK
Now that you have shared your folder(s) in LANDISK to the Network,the following example described how to
access LANDISK’s data in Network under Windows OS.
STEP 1. Click the Windows Start button,then choose Run, then type
\\landisk in the input box and click <OK>.
Important: If you are installing an additional LANDISK(s) to your
Network,please use the Default Hostname instead of \\LANDISK,ie.\\
LANDISK-XXXX. The “XXXX” which is mean the last four digits of
the MAC Address for current LANDISK.You can find out the Default
Hostname from the MAC Address sticker on the back panel.
If you’ve change the default Hostname by WebControl Utility,please
type a double Backslash “\\” follow by your own hostname instead.For
example,if your new hostname for LANDISK is MyMusics,please type
\\MyMusics in the input box.
STEP 2. The Windows Explorer will be opened,now you will see all the shared folders in the list. Now,you can
double-click the shared folder to access the files in LANDISK or copy files from/to your computer.
Note: For quick access the Shared Folders of your LANDISK,you can also Map the Shared Folder as a Network
Drive,just right click the Icon/Name of the Shared Folder and select “Map Network Drive…” to assign a fixed
Drive Letter for your Shared Folder.

3.8 Access Files From LANDISK under Mac OS 10.3.x
1 Be sure that you’ve already connected to the same Ethernet LAN as your LANDISK.
2 Select “Go/Connect to Server…” or use the hotkey
<Command+K>
3 You will see the following dialog “Connect To Server”
Please type “smb://” follow by the Hostname of your
LANDISK,ie. smb://landisk and click on the <Connect>
button. After waiting for a few seconds,you will see the
following dialog box,please select a Shared Folder and
click on the <OK> button
If you have assign a password for your shared
folder,please input the correct usename and
password in the box,and then click on the <OK>
button:
After login into the Shared Folder,the MAC OS will
automatically create an icon on your desktop,and
then open the shared folder that you’ve just
connected:
