In order to reduce the environmental impact of our cars,
Volvo is introducing the DRIVe program along with this
superbly agile and hyper efficient Volvo S40 D2 DRIVe
with Start/Stop technology. Aerodynamically optimised to
save fuel, and emitting only 99 grams of CO per

kilometre, form and function have never been better
served.

The exceptionally clean Scandinavian design of the Volvo
S40 DRIVe with Start/Stop helps it cut through the air
with fuel saving ease. Sipping barely 3.9 l/100km* with an
average carbon dioxide emission of just 99 grams per
kilometre, this aerodynamically optimised sports saloon
makes eco-driving a beautiful thing. The lowered chassis,
low drag wheels and instant power of a super efficient
engine with Start/Stop technology are just a few of the
fuel saving refinements that make this car more earth
friendly and more fun to drive.

Can cheating the wind be good for it? We think so. Design and drive train modifications
significantly reduce air resistance and minimise CO emissions. For example, a special front grille,

spoilers, wheel deflectors and a lowered chassis help reduce drag. And Volvo’s state-of-the-art
common rail turbo diesel with Start/Stop technology, brake energy regeneration, heightened gear
ratios, optimised electro-hydraulic power steering, newly developed transmission oil (that reduces
internal resistance), and energy saving tyres, all help lower CO emissions significantly. For more

Cleaner exhaust.
Fast responding after a cold start, Volvo’s advanced emission control
eliminates between 95 and 99% of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons
and nitrogen oxides from petrol engine exhaust gases. The Volvo
turbo diesels feature a particulate filter that removes about 95% of
