TRACKPixx3 Installation Guide
Overview
This installation guide provides conformity, safety, hardware, installation and maintenance information for VPixx
Technologies Inc.’s TRACKPixx3 Short-Range and Long-Range systems.
The TRACKPixx3 is a versatile 2 kHz eye/gaze-tracking solution supporting both monocular and binocular tracking with a
single mechanical configuration. Interchangeable lenses support tracker distances from 24’’ to over 63’’ (60 cm to over
160 cm) depending on your application needs.
The TRACKPixx3 does not require a dedicated PC to process eye images and generate gaze information; all image
processing is performed within the TRACKPixx3 hardware.
For technical questions or product support information, do not hesitate to contact the VPixx support team by phone or
by sending an E-mail to support@vpixx.com
By creating your MyVPixx account on the VPixx Technologies website, you will have access to additional
product documentation, demos, source code examples and the latest firmware and software drivers.
The TRACKPixx3 device is suitable only for research and is not designed for medical applications or for
diagnostic purposes.

SAFETY INFORMATION
As Class 1 LED devices, the InfraRed Short-Range Illuminator (VPX-TRK-9000), InfraRed Short-Range 940nm Illuminator
(VPX-TRK-9002) and the InfraRed Long-Range Illuminator (VPX-TRK-9010) are compliant with the IEC-62471 LED safety
standard, which regulates LED and laser eye and skin safety. Class 1 LED devices are safe under most operational and
testing conditions. As the Illuminator may be used in test and laboratory conditions where a subject may be exposed to
its infrared emissions for protracted periods, precautions must be taken, mainly to ensure maximum subject comfort.
Please refer to the specific InfraRed Illuminator manual for installation and safety information.
USAGE NOTES
•Use only the provided power cable.
•Do not expose any component of the TRACKPixx3 to adverse weather conditions such as rain, water, heat, cold
or abnormally high levels of humidity.
•Unplug the system before cleaning, and refer to the appropriate cleaning procedure in the maintenance section
of this document to clean any component.
•Handle the power cable carefully. Never use a damaged power cable.
•Ensure that air circulation surrounds all system components.
In the event of failure, the TRACKPixx3 and InfraRed Illuminator devices should be replaced. There are no user
serviceable/adjustable parts inside. Contact VPixx Technologies Inc. for repair or replacement as required.

Installation Steps
Refer to the following steps for additional information concerning the installation of your TRACKPixx3. All connection
references refer to Figure 1 and Table 3.
Refer to the DATAPixx3 Installation Guide for associated cabling information.
DATAPixx3 connections
1. Connect the fiber optic cable from:
a. The DATAPixx3 VideoBahn#1 interface to the TRACKPixx3 VideoBahn fiber optic interface (Figure 4).
(connection A). A loud CLICK will be heard when this cable is properly connected both to the TRACKPixx3
and the DATAPixx3.
Remember when manipulating or connecting fiber optic cables not to kink or otherwise bend them below a
bending radius of 2‘’ (5 cm). Doing so may damage the cable.
2. Connect the USB cable from one of the Control Room computer’s USB ports to the DATAPixx3’s USB port
(connection B).
3. Connect a DisplayPort cable from:
a. The Control Room computer to the DATAPixx3 DisplayPort IN1 (connection C)
b. The DATAPixx3 DisplayPort OUT2 to the console monitor DisplayPort input (connection D)
c. The DATAPixx3 OUT1 to the stimulus display (connection G)

TRACKPixx3 Installation Guide
1. Ensure that when inserting either the Infrared interface cable or the power cable into the TRACKPixx3, the cable
connector orientation is such that its red dot is in line with the TRACKPixx3 camera connector’s female connector
notch (refer to Figure 4 and Figure 5).
Figure 5 - cable connector red dot
When disconnecting either an Infrared Interface connector or a LEMO power connector, remember that you
must first gently pull on the surrounding metal sleeve and then pull the connector out, or else the connector
will not come out. Using force to pull a connector out may damage the connector/cable.
2. The InfraRed Illuminator’s connector possesses an alignment notch at the top, to ensure that the connector is
properly aligned when inserted.
Figure 6 - InfraRed interface connector
3. Included in your TRACKPixx3 package is a mounting apparatus allowing you to assemble the TRACKPixx3 and the
InfraRed Illuminator device and arrange them in the exact position required by your application. The procedure
to mount either the TRACKPixx3 or InfraRed Illuminator device to the mounting apparatus is the same.

4. Slide the device along the mounting apparatus’ support arm.
5. Once in its desired location along the mounting arm, tighten the mounting screw at the back of the device to
secure it in place.

6. Once the devices are securely fitted to the mounting apparatus, use the three cam levers to aim the TRACKPixx3
and the InfraRed Illuminator device towards your subject.

1. Your TRACKPixx3 package includes one 50 mm or 75 mm lens which must be attached to the TRACKPixx3 camera
before using the system. The lens type is identified on the lens itself. Ensure that you use the proper lens for
your experiment.
The 50 mm lens is typically used for an installation using a chinrest where the subject’s head is fixed and relatively
close to the TRACKPixx3 camera, while the 75 mm lens is used for setups using the Long-Range Illuminator. If
your experiment requires a remote installation, the TRACKPixx3 and the slave tracker should use a 25 mm lens.
To add the lens to the TRACKPixx3, simply place it on the lens receptacle area of your TRACKPixx3 and gently
screw it clockwise using its C-mount adaptor until the adaptor cannot turn anymore.
Figure 10 - Lens C-mount adaptor
2. Once the camera lens has been firmly installed and the system is operational, use the focus adjustment ring and
light aperture adjustment ring on the lens (refer to Figure 10) to adjust the image focus and brightness recorded
by the camera.

Console Monitor and Stimulus Display power connections
Use the appropriate power cables to connect the console monitor and the Stimulus display.
Chinrest installation
If your TRACKPixx3 package includes the optional chinrest, install it at a proper distance from the TRACKPixx3 camera
according to the setup diagram appropriate to your experiment (Figure 2 or Figure 3).
TRACKPixx3 camera rear LED
To the rear of your TRACKPixx3 camera is a status LED which, under normal operation will be ORANGE. After power up, a
short delay during which the LED will be RED signifies that the camera is in initialization mode.
