Warning PowertotheJACEmustbeOFFwhen
installingorremovingoptioncards,or
damagewilloccur!Also,youmustbevery
carefultopluganyoptioncardintoits
connectorproperly(pinsaligned).
MounttheNPB‐232optioncardineitheroftheoption
cardslotsoftheJACE‐2/6,asavailable.Seethenotes
inTable 1onsoftwareCOMportassignmentsif
installingtwoNPB‐232optioncards.
Procedure 1 Mounting NPB-232 option card on a JACE.
1.
Remove powerfromtheJACE—seethe
previousWarning.
2.
RemovetheJACEcover.
Todothis,pressinthefourtabsonbothendsof
theunit,andliftthecoveroff.
Note Ifaccessorymodulesarepluggedintothe
JACE,youmayneedtoslidethemawayfrom
theunittogettothecovertabs.
3.
Removethebatteryandbracketassemblyby
takingoutthefourscrewsholdingitinplace,
settingthescrewsasideforlater.Unplugthe
batteryfromtheconnectorontheJACE.See
Figure 2foranexplodedview.

installed. COM ports are assigned as
follows:
•If a single RS-232 option in Option
Slot 1, port is COM3.
•If two RS-232 options, ports are
COM3 for Option Slot 1, and COM4
for Option Slot 2.
•If a single RS-232 option in Option
Slot 2, with another option type in
Slot 1, the COM assignment varies:

CarefullyinsertthepinsoftheNPB‐232intothe
socketoftheappropriateoptioncardslot.The
mountingholesontheoptionboardshouldline
upwiththestandoffsonthebaseboard.Ifthey
donot,theconnectorisnotproperlyaligned.
Pressuntiltheoptioncardiscompletelyseated.

Placethecustomendplatethatcamewiththe
NPB‐232overitsconnector(seeFigure 3).

Plugthebatterycableintothebatteryconnector
ontheJACE(seeFigure 3forlocation).

Setthebatteryandbracketassemblybackover
theoptioncardslots,withthemountingholes
alignedwiththestandoffs.

Placethefourscrewsthroughthebatterybracket,
endplates,andintothestandoffsontheJACE
baseboard.Handtightenthesescrews.

ReplacetheJACEcover.
Ifaccessorymoduleswereunplugged,plugthem
backintotheJACEasbefore,andsecure.
