operates on the principle of gasification and is a result of years of research in the field of
combustion.
With its unique design and high quality control unit, it achieves very good results,
which are mainly reflected in low ash volumes and low CO and NOx emissions.
Please read the instructions carefully before use. This is the only way you will
be able to use your new boiler in an energy-saving and environmentally friendly way.

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND EXPLANATION OF SYMBOLS
1.1 Explanation of symbols
The danger sign is additionally equipped with a word that explains the level of danger in more
detail.
•Caution points to the possibility of minor damage to the product.
•Warning indicates the possibility of minor personal injury and major damage to the
product.
•Hazardous points to the possibility of serious bodily harm, which can also result in
death.
Recommendations are marked with an
info sign, and the upper and lower sides
are separated by horizontal lines.
The recommendations contain important information about the operation of the
product, but without the risk of damage to the user or the product.
1.2 Safety warnings
General instructions
The product can only be operated by qualified adults. User training can be carried
out by an authorised heating system installer or by our service department. Read the
relevant documentation carefully to prevent operation and maintenance errors. People
with inadequate experience and knowledge and children must not operate, clean or
maintain the product.
Ash storage
Ash should be kept in non-flammable containers with a lid to cool down. Never put
hot ashes in the garbage bin!
Boiler temperature elevated
When the boiler temperature exceeds 85 °C, the controller switches off the suction
fan and the display shows "COOL FLUI". The reasons for raising the boiler temperature are:
•too much firewood in the firebox;
•unexpected shutdown of the heating circuits;
•failure of one of the heating pumps;
•one of the heating ducts was inadvertently closed;
When the boiler temperature drops below 85 °C, the fan automatically switches on again.
During these high boiler temperature shutdowns (above 85 °C), wood gases continue to be
trapped in the boiler and this combustion process produces large amounts of tar, which
results in a polluted (tarred) boiler.

Installation of thermal discharge protection against overheating (STS)
The use of a thermal safety valve is mandatory wherever the boiler is connected to a
closed system and uses solid fuel as an energy source. The valve prevents the temperature
of the water in the boiler from rising above the boiling point at normal air pressure. The
thermal safety valve must be installed close to the hearth with the sensitive element
immersed in the boiler water and the valve with two tubes. The starting temperature is 97 °C
and the outlet temperature is 110 °C. The maximum pressure is 10 bar and the maximum
outlet capacity is 6.5 m3/h. The thermal safety valve is equipped with 2 sensing elements; in
case one sensing element breaks down, the other ensures that the valve works and provides
double safety.
The safety heat exchanger installed in the boiler must be connected by the system
installer to the cold water network in the house via a thermal discharge valve to ensure that
the boiler is protected against overheating in the event of a pump failure. The minimum
pressure in the cold water duct must be 2 bar and must not exceed 15 °C.
Only thermal discharge protection complying with DIN EN 14597 (or comparable
standards) may be installed. These must be triggered at 100 °C and allow a flow rate of at
least 2.0 m³/h. The clear width of the cold water supply and outlet must not be less
than the nominal width of the safety heat exchanger. The cold water supply must be
connected to the upper connection of the safety heat exchanger and the lower connection is
intended as a drain to the duct. To ensure that the supply cannot be closed unintentionally,
the lever or handwheel must be
removed from the ball valves and suspended from the fitting by a piece of wire.
To help identify errors, the outflow requires a flow path that can be monitored. Remove
the water out through a siphon funnel, or at least through a hose, to the floor so that no one
can get scalded when the valve is opened.

Safety cut-off with STB switch (safety temperature limiter)
As an additional safety against overheating, the boiler is equipped with a safety
temperature limiter (STL) which, in the event that the boiler reaches 100 °C
(temperatures 95 to 105 °C are tolerated), blocks the suction fan so that it can no longer
be switched on. The STL can be manually released when the boiler temperature drops
below 90 °C again, and the boiler can be restarted when the boiler temperature drops
below 70 °C.

Installation of pressure relief valve
A safety valve with an opening pressure of 3 bar must be installed on the boiler. Each
heating element of the heating device must be protected against exceeding the maximum
operating pressure by the means of at least one safety valve (see EN 12828). These must be
so arranged as to prevent the maximum working pressure which may be generated in the
heating device or parts thereof from being exceeded. The safety valve must be located in the
boiler room or in the installation area of the device and must be well accessible. There must
be no locking elements, dirt traps, etc. between the boiler and the safety valve. The size of
the safety valve connection is determined according to the table depending on the maximum
heating output of the heating system.
The safety valve must be installed at the highest point of the heating element or at the
pre-flow near the heating element. This is the only way they can dissipate heat by releasing
hot water and steam. The installation position of the safety valve is optional, but the upper
part of the valve must not be positioned in a downward orientation. The supply may be up to
1 m long and must be laid flush with the nominal width of the valve inlet.
The outflow of the safety valve (discharge duct) must be installed at least at the
nominal width of the valve outflow under constant fall and shall be routed to the sewer
connection. The outflow duct may have a maximum of 2 arches and may be 2 m long. If a
duct longer than 2 m is required, the duct must be enlarged by one dimensions. More than 3
arches and 4 m in length are not allowed. The mouth of the discharge duct must be capable
of being inspected without obstruction and must be laid in such a way as to preclude any
danger to persons. If the discharge duct is directed into a funnel, the cross-section of its
discharge line must be
at least twice the cross-section of the valve inlet.
Risk of poisoning
In the room where the boiler is installed, vents and openings used for ventilation or
air supply must not be reduced or closed. If you smell gas (fumes) and think they may be
leaking out, leave the room immediately, open doors and windows and ventilate the room. If
the gas continues to leak, call a qualified person or a qualified installer. When loading fuel
into the boiler, do not leave the door open after loading. Observe the required chimney draft.
Explosive and flammable substances
Do not store explosives or flammable substances in the room where the boiler is
installed.

1. Closed expansion vessel.
2. Reliable-operating safety valve (with a maximum opening pressure of 3 bar) at the
highest point of the boiler or of an inseparably connected pipework.
3. Thermometer, pressure gauge.
4. Automatic heat recovery device to prevent the boiler water temperature from
exceeding the maximum allowed limit of 110 °C. Usually, a heat exchanger with a
thermal drain protector is installed for this purpose.
5. Water shortage protection: for heat generators with a rated output up to 300 kW, a
water shortage protection is not mandatory, provided that provisions are made to
prevent uncontrolled heating in the event of a water shortage.
If the boiler is located higher than the radiators, a water shortage protection must also be
installed in any case.
Despite all the measures, there are still dangers!
Hot surface
Contact with hot surfaces of the boiler can lead to burns. Wait until the boiler has
cooled down before touching these parts.
Fire hazards
If the appliance is running and the door or other covers are open, there is a high
risk of fire. Always keep the boiler door closed. Open and clean only when the boiler is
switched off. Never open them unnecessarily. Keep the ash cool, store it in a closed, non-
flammable container.
Risk of damage to automation-driven components
Working on the fume fan can lead to serious damage. Be sure to switch off
electrical power when doing this work.
Electrical hazard
Various electrical work and interventions should be carried out only by professionally
qualified personnel.
1.3 Installation and start-up
•Installation of the boiler may only be carried out by a qualified installer.
•You must not make any structural changes to the boiler yourself.
•You must not make any modifications to the boiler.
•You must not interfere with the boiler's chimney connections yourself.
•You must not interfere with the boiler's electrical connection yourself.
•You must not disconnect the boiler from the electrical grid during operation.
•Do not leave the door open when the boiler is operating.
•Use only the fuel intended for the boiler.
•Do not cover the air inlets intended for air supply while the boiler is operating.
•When installing the boiler, the minimum clearances of the stove from walls or other
objects must be observed.
•It is recommended to install a surge protector on the boiler's electrical supply.
•The first start-up of the boiler is carried out by an authorised installer or Valtis
technician together with the owner of the boiler, and a report on the first firing of
the boiler is filled in and sent back to Valtis ogrevanje d.o.o., otherwise the
warranty is not valid.

1.4 Maintenance and service
•Maintenance service of the boiler is performed once a year. This must be done by an
authorised repairer and any faults must be reported to the manufacturer.
•Servicing of the appliance must only be carried out by an authorised service centre,
we do not recommend any work on the boiler Clustomer other than cleaning.
•The insulation materials on the doors and the chamotte bricks are consumables that
are exposed to harsh conditions, and over time, especially in the chamber section,
capillary cracks may be observed, but these are not subject to complaint as they do
not affect the performance of the boiler. The estimated lifetime of these is 4 years or
more.
•All sealing cords must be seamlessly positioned in the grooves,
otherwise fume leakage may occur
2. DEVICE INFORMATION
These instructions contain important information on the correct use and operation of the
device.
2.1 Method of use
Viva GT is a firewood gasification boiler, used as a stand-alone unit or as a component
of a boiler room where several systems (oil, solar, wood…) are installed. It is used for
central heating of individual houses and small commercial buildings up to 300 m2 depending
on the insulation coefficient of the building.
2.2 Standards, regulations and directives
•The boiler acts on the system of negative pressure generated by the fan.
•The boiler does not operate without a fan.
•The boiler is not a low temperature or low condensing boiler and operates at higher
fume temperatures.
•No additional protective structures on the boiler are required.
•The boiler needs an additional water storage tank (accumulator tank).
•The boiler comes fully assembled and does not need assembly and pressure
testing.
•The small combustion device you own falls under the domain of the chimney
sweeping service. The owner of the combustion device is obliged to fulfill all
obligations arising from the applicable laws and regulations regarding the first start-up
and operation of the device and associated parts, equipment and devices.
•The noise generated by the appliance complies with EN 15036-1.
2.3 Operating the boiler
Please observe the following when operating the boiler:
•The boiler should be operated by a qualified person who is familiar with the boiler use
instructions.
Observe all local regulations and
directives during operation.

•Make sure that the boiler cannot be accessed during its operating by children or
anyone who is not familiar with the operation of the boiler.
•Do not use any explosive, easily flammable substances or preparations when igniting.
•The ashes must be disposed of in an ash container that is non-flammable and
covered to avoid ignition and consequent combustion.
•Do not store or dispose of combustible or explosive materials near or on the boiler.
•The use of explosive or highly flammable substances/preparations for burning is
prohibited.
•Use only non-flammable cleaning agents to clean the boiler.
•The boiler has a maximum boiler water operating temperature of 85 °C - be careful
not to set a higher water operating temperature.
•The minimum temperature of the water in the boiler during operation should not be
below 55 °C, as condensation occurs in this case.
•The boiler user must strictly follow the instructions for use.
•Do not light the boiler if there is a risk of explosion, fire or gas leak.
•When extinguishing the boiler, the instructions for extinguishing must be followed
and the boiler must never be extinguished by forcing or inserting substances into the
boiler.
•The boiler may only burn the dedicated fuel prescribed by the manufacturer.
2.4 Air supply
In the room where the boiler is installed, it must be possible to supply fresh air for
combustion. The air inlets must ensure that clean, fresh air is supplied. The minimum air
supply must be 2.0m3/h per 1 kW boiler output.
There must be no extraction hoods, fans or vents or devices that create a negative pressure
in the room where the boiler is installed.
The boiler needs oxygen for
combustion, so it must be located
in a well-ventilated area.

3.1 Basic description
The firewood is loaded into the boiler in the loading bay through the loading door.
The firewood is ignited through the loading door, and the ash left in the firewood
storage after burning is also cleaned here.
The ash cleaning door is used to clean or remove ash from the combustion chamber.
The air supply regulators operate automatically, the primary one ensuring a stable
combustion output and the secondary one, with the help of a lambda cell, supplying oxygen
to the flame itself in order to minimise the necessary excess of oxygen in the exhaust to the
environment.
The turbulators in the heat exchanger are used to clean the exchanger and are
operated by a handle located on the left side of the boiler.
3.2 Fuel
The fuel used in the boiler must be firewood with a maximum length of 500 mm
and an average diameter of 10 cm. Round pieces of wood smaller than 8 cm are not
split, but can be placed between the firewood. All types of wood with a maximum
moisture content of 18% can be burned. The boiler output is determined by the type and
dryness of the firewood.

Wooden planks can only be inserted between the firewood and must not be the first
layer, as they cover the combustion opening in the grate. Finer material can only be used as
filler for the space between the firewood, but by no means in the lower layer. The smaller the
material, the less you can mix in.
Inappropriate fuels
Moist fuels with more than 20% water are not allowed. They cause water to
accumulate, corroding the walls of the boiler's filling chamber. It is also forbidden to burn
garbage, paper and cardboard (for kindling only), wood dust, sawdust, pieces of wood
smaller than an inch, coal, coke and substances prohibited by the relevant air pollution
law, such as old railway sleepers, plastic sheets, impregnated wood, etc.
3.2.1 Fuel storage
Fuel storage is carried out in specially prepared areas, which must be non-flammable
and prevent moisture from entering the fuel.

For potential extinguishing of the room in which the boiler is located, we recommend
a Type A dust extinguisher for fires.
3.2.3 Tip
Split wood dries in one year
The water content of the firewood for the firewood boiler must be below 18 % (air
dried).
Damp wood with a water content of more than 20 % causes an overly humid climate
in the loading bay. Insufficiently dry wood can cause the boiler to rust in the loading
bay.
Calorific value of wood
In the case of firewood, we usually talk about cubic metres. However, the energy
value does not depend only on the type of wood. The heat content per cubic metre
depends on whether the firewood

is composed of unseparated round firewood, metre firewood or prepared firewood, and
whether the wood is fresh from the forest or kiln-dried. From freshly harvested wood with
60% water to the fibre saturation point at 25%, the volume of the wood is constant. If you
dry it any longer, the wood starts to shrink. As it shrinks, air-dried wood (15 % water
content) has more wood per cubic metre than freshly harvested wood. In conifers, this is 5-
6%, and in deciduous trees 6-9%. The firewood is crooked. The longer the log, the less
wood (or more air) there is per cubic metre. There is usually more space between crooked
deciduous trees than between straight conifers. Another difference: round firewood can be
stacked much more compactly than metre firewood. If you chop them yourself, you get 15%
more wood per cubic metre for round firewood.
Approximately 0.9 m³ of half-metre-long beech firewood or 1.3 m³ of spruce
firewood are needed per kilowatt of heat load per year. 8 m³ of half-metre-long spruce
firewood or 5.5 m³ of beech should be enough for about 1000 l of heating oil.
We recommend burning dry
beech firewood up to a
maximum length of 500 mm.

During transport, the boiler shall be placed on a pallet of dimensions 1300 mm x 800 mm,
the support legs screwed to the pallet, the corners placed on top of the boiler and the boiler
secured to the pallet with at least two connecting straps. Once the boiler is placed on the
transport vehicle, it must be secured onto it with tie straps at all four corners of the boiler.
5.2 Clearance from walls
When positioning the boiler, please respect the wall clearances as shown in the figure below:
In order for the manufacturer to ensure trouble-free operation and maintenance of the
boiler, it is not permitted to start the boiler if the minimum wall clearances are not
observed!

5.3.1 Flue pipe connection
•Install the flue pipe connection on the
boiler in such a way that it is as short
as possible and stably positioned.
•Each joint shall have a cleaning opening
for cleaning
•The height of the flue pipe connection at
the chimney may be lower than the height
of the flue pipe connection at the boiler
(1552 mm)
5.3.2 Fresh air supply
•Ensure sufficient fresh air supply to the room through the air vents.
•The air opening must not be interrupted or altered in any way in such a way as to cut
off or reduce the supply of fresh air to the room.
The room in which the boiler is installed must be able to supply fresh air for combustion.
Air inlets shall ensure that uncontaminated air is supplied and the minimum air supply
shall be 2,0 m3/h per 1 kW of boiler output.
There must also be no extraction hoods, fans or vents or devices that create a negative
pressure.

5.3.5 Connecting the safety
heat exchanger
The Viva GT boiler is fitted with a safety
internal tubular heat exchanger as
standard (picture on the right):
•Connect the safety heat exchanger
in such a way that cold water is
allowed to flow through it, without
auxiliary energy.
•The minimum cold water
overpressure shall be 1.0 bar, but
not more than 2 bar.
•Connect the inlet to the mains
water supply.

condensation in the

5.3.6 Protection against condensation
The protection against condensation prevents water from the heating network
from entering the boiler when the water in the boiler has cooled below 58 °C.
The electronics installed into the boiler enable the control of the mixing valve, which ensures
the correct mixing of cold water from the storage tank and hot water from the furnace. When
the water in the lower part of the storage tank starts to rise above 60 °C, the mixing valve
starts to open, which allows a greater exchange of energy between the furnace and the
water storage tank.
For full operation of the boiler it is mandatory to install a three-way mixing
valve 5/4'' with motor drive (e.g. PROMIX AVC05 5Nm, 2 min, 230V and flow pumps
25-60-180) or the exact equivalent of the one described. The diameter of the pipe
between the boiler and the water storage tank must be 35 mm in diameter. In the
event that the equipment installed is not in accordance with the requirements, the
manufacturer shall not be held liable for any malfunctioning of the boiler. However,
the person authorised to start the boiler has the right to cancel the boiler start-up.
Any costs incurred in connection with this shall be borne by the customer themself
or by the person who installed the boiler.

5.3.7 Connecting the boiler to the electricity grid
The connection of the boiler to the
electricity grid and the input/output
components (valves, pump, sensors...) is
done via the terminal connectors, as
shown in the figure below.
The electrical components on the boiler include the fan and are already electrically
connected to the boiler control.

5.4 Commissioning the boiler
The first commissioning of the boiler should only be carried out by an authorised person,
after a pre-arranged date. Please contact us on 02/460 08 01 at least 7 working days
before your desired first commissioning date. The boiler shall be hydraulically and
electrically connected and the system shall be charged and vented.
•The boiler operating pressure shall be a minimum of 1 bar and a maximum of 2 bar.
•If the pressure drops below the minimum, top up the system.
•The boiler must not be operated without water.
•All sensors are fitted and properly sealed.
5.4.1 Hydraulic diagram
The basic diagram most commonly used in practice for the connection of gasification
boilers is given below. Using the diagram below, systems with direct heating circuits and
without the use of additional house controllers operate normally, although significant time
variations in the processes may occur (e.g.: duration of storage tank filling, riser temperature
fluctuations, etc.). The pump to be used for installation shall be a pump with designation 25-
60-180 or a pump of equal or greater capacity.
