Under the laws of several countries or some district of a country, you arenot permitted to operate an internal
combustion engine using hydrocarbon fuels on any forest covered, brush covered or grass covered land or
on land covered with grain, hay, or other flammable agricultural crop, without an engine spark arrester in
continuous effective working order.
The engine on your power equipment, like most outdoorpower equipment, is an internal combustion engine
that burns gasoline, a hydrocarbon fuel. Therefore, your power equipment must be equipped with a spark
arrester muffler in continuous effective working order. The spark arrester must be attached to the engine
exhaust system in such a manner that flames or heat from the system will not ignite flammable material.
Failure of the owner/operator of theequipment to complywith this regulation is a misdemeanor under some
country's law, and may also be a violation of other state and/or federal regulations laws ordinances or
codes.
Contact your local fire marshal or forest service for specific information about what regulations apply in your
area.
Contact your authorized engine dealer for information about obtaining a spark arrester.

Under certain conditions, such as verytall grass,
it may benecessary to raisethe height ofcut to re-
duce pushing effort and to keep from overloading the
engine and leaving clumps ofgrass clippings. It may
also be necessaryto reduce groundspeed and /or
run the lawn mowerover the area asecond time.
For extremely heavycutting, reduce thewidth of
cut by overlapping previously cut path and mow slowly.
For better grassbagging and mostcutting condi-
tions, the engine speed should be set in the fast position.
Pores incloth grasscatchers canbecome filled
with dirt anddust with useand catchers willcollect
less grass. To prevent this, regularly hose catcher off
with water and letdry before using.
Keep top of enginearound starter clear andclean
of grass clippings. This willhelp engine air flow and
extend enginelife.
