Your room air conditioner provides the follow ing functions to make hot w eather
living more comfortable:
• Cools and circulates room air.
• Low ers humidit y by removing excess m oist ure.
• Filters out summertime dust, dirt, and some airborne impurities.
The air conditioner performs these functions by draw ing room air through a filter
w hich traps dust and dirt particles. The air then passes over a cooling coil which
refrigerates the air and removes excess moisture. The same air is then returned to
the room — cooler, drier and cleaner. M oisture removed from the room air is carried
to the outside and evaporated.
Your air conditioner is designed to be easy to operate and to provide plenty of
cooling pow er.

For Your Safety
Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of
this or any other appliance. Read product labels for flammability and other w arnings.
Prevent Accidents
To reduce risk of fire, electrical shock, or injury to persons w hen using your air
conditioner, f ollow basic precaut ions, including t he f ollow ing:
• Be sure electrical service is adequate for model you have chosen. This information
can be found on the serial plate, w hich is located either behind louvers or on left
side of cabinet.
• If air conditioner is t o be installed in w indow, you w ill probably w ant t o clean
both sides of glass first. If window is a triple-track type w ith screen panel
included, remove screen completely before installation.
• Be sure air conditioner has been securely and correctly installed according to the
separate installation instructions provided w ith this manual. Save this manual and
installation instructions for possible future use in removing or reinstalling this unit.
• When handling the air conditioner, be careful to avoid cuts from sharp metal fins
on front and rear coils.
Electrical Information
The complete electrical rating of your new room air conditioner is stated on the
serial plate. Refer to the rating w hen checking the electrical requirements.
• Be sure air conditioner is properly grounded. To minimize shock and fire hazards,
proper grounding is important. The pow er cord is equipped w ith a three-prong
grounding plug for protection against shock hazards.
• Your air conditioner mmuussttbe used in a properly grounded w all receptacle. If w all
receptacle you intend to use is not adequately grounded or protected by a time
delay fuse or circuit breaker, have a qualified electrician install proper receptacle.
• Do not run air conditioner with outside protective cover in plate. This could result
in mechanical damage w ithin the air conditioner.

• Room air conditioner capacity must fit room size for efficient operation.
• Install room air conditioner on shady side of home. A w indow that faces north is
best because it is shaded most of the day.
• Close fireplace damper, floor and w all registers so cool air does not escape.
• Keep blinds and drapes in ot her w indow s closed during sunniest part of day.
• Clean air filter as recommended in section “ Care and Cleaning.”
• Proper home insulation and w eather stripping keeps w arm air out and cool air in.
• Operate heat producing appliances such as ranges, w ashers, dryers and
dishw ashers during coolest part of the day.

Installation
Be sure unit is level from side-to-side for proper w ater drainage. This may be achieved by using shims.
Unit must slope dow nw ard from front to rear. M odels up to 24” deep: x = 1/ 4 inch (6.4 mm)
M odels over 24” deep: x = 3/ 8 inch (1.0 cm)
Side louvers must not be obstructed. Air must be able to enter side louvers.
For Side by Side Installations provide adequate clearance (2 feet, 61.0 cm) betw een units.

Front Installation
Some models are shipped in a removable sleeve, please add the supplied seal to the
bottom front rail as show n (to the left) before installing unit in the sleeve. Use the
follow ing instruction for installing the decorative front and accessories.
Installing the Vent Control (on some models)
The vent control handle is included in the decorative front kit. The handle must be
installed before the decorative front is attached.
1. Insert the handle w ith the “ etchings (Vent/Air)” facing to the left.
2. Slip the black door extension into the split at the end of the handle.
3. For ease of assembly, push the handle in w hile pressing the door extension
against the foam until the tw o pieces lock together.
4. M ove handle in and out to be sure vent is operating properly.
Installing the Front Frame
Some models require installation of the front panel of the air conditioner included
in a decorative kit. To assemble, follow these steps. Before installation, remove the
tilt panel from the frame. Grasping the panel from both sides, gently pull to release,
then lift panel from pivot points at bottom of frame).

Decorative Front
• Position the top of the decorative front over the top flange of the case, and
align the tabs w ith the slots in the case (Fig. 1).
• As you install the front frame to the unit be sure the vent handle is positioned
through the front in the proper location.
• Carefully pull down on the front to engage the top tabs, while pushing the
front over the case to ensure proper alignment.
• The side tabs w ill “ click” w hen front is seated.
• Then add filter and front panel.

Using Air Conditioner To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read
the IM PORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS before operating this appliance.

1. Plug in the air conditioner. (To prevent electrical hazards, do not use an extension
cord or an adapter plug.)
2. Set the exhaust vent to the CLOSED position.
3. Adjust the louvers for comfortable air flow.
Review the “ Air Conditioner Features” section for other settings.
Air Conditioner Features ELECTRONIC CONTROL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Before you begin, thoroughly familiarize yourself w ith the control panel and remote
as show n below and all its functions, then follow the symbol for the functions you
desire. The unit can be controlled by the touch pad alone or with the remote.
Slip battery cover off and pull the piece of plastic from betw een
the battery end and the connector. (In some cases batteries may
need to be installed first.)
Not e: Remember that in t his mode, the fan w ill run continuously w hile the
compressor cycles on and off as needed to maintain the room temperature. (see
also, energy saver mode, step 6)

) to increase delayed start time by .5 hours (up to 10 hours), then in 1 hour increments up
to 24 hours. The control w ill count dow n the time remaining until start (8, 7.5, 7, etc.).
The unit w ill then come on in Cool and HI fan mode. The temperat ure maint ained w ill be t he same as you previsouly set. If you
w ant to change it, Press “ Cool” or “ Energy Saver M ode” pad, w hichever you desire, then Up or Dow n arrow s until the desired
temperature is indicated on the display. Pressing timer “ On/Off” or after 5 seconds, the control w ill automatically change the
display back to the hours remaining until the unit will start.

ADDITIONAL THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Now that you have mastered the operating procedure, here are more features in your control that you should become familiar
w it h.
• Remote control w orks exactly like the control panel, follow the same instructions.
• The “ Cool “ circuit has an automatic 3 minute time delayed start if the unit is turned off and on quickly. This prevents
overheating of the compressor and possible circuit breaker tripping. The fan will continue to run during this time.
• The control will maintain the set temperature within 2 degrees Fahrenheit, between 60F and 90F degrees.
Fresh Air Vent Control
The Fresh Air Vent allow s the air conditioner to recirculate inside air (OFF), draw
air into the room (FRESH AIR) or exhaust stale air to the outside (VENT). See Figures
1, 2 & 3 for this operation.
• The “ OFF” posit ion is used w hen MMAAXXIIMMUUMMcooling is desired. It may also be
for room air re-circulation w ithout cooling w hen the selector sw itch is set to the
FAN position, this w ill also filter t he room air.
• The FRESH AIR position allow s outside air to be draw n into the room to refresh
the inside room air.
• The VENT position removes stale air from the room and exhausts it to the
outside.
• Any vent position can be used w ith any fan selection.

Air Filter Cleaning
The air filter should be checked at least once a month to see if cleaning is necessary.
Trapped particles in the filter can build up and cause an accumulation of frost on
the cooling coils.
• To remove filter, first tilt the panel out by grasping the panel from both sides just
below the air directional louvers and gently pull to release. Gently pivot the panel
on its hinge, and remove the filter.
• Wash the f ilter using liquid dishw ashing detergent and w arm w ater. Rinse filt er
thoroughly. Gently shake excess w ater from the filter. Be sure filter is thoroughly
dry before replacing.
• Or, instead of w ashing you m ay vacuum the filter clean.
Cabinet Cleaning
• Be sure to unplug the air conditioner to prevent shock or fire hazard. The cabinet and
front may be dusted with an oil-free cloth or washed with a cloth dampened in a
solution of w arm w ater and mild liquid dishw ashing detergent. Rinse thoroughly and
w ipe dry.
• Never use harsh cleaners, w ax or polish on the cabinet front.
• Be sure t o w ring excess w at er from t he clot h before w iping around t he controls.
Excess w ater in or around the controls may cause damage to the air conditioner.
• The cabinet front can be removed for more thorough cleaning. Refer to “ Front
Installation” in this manual.
• Clean the front in a sink using liquid dishw ashing detergent and w arm w ater. Rinse
thoroughly and dry.
• Replace cabinet front. Replace the screws.
• Replace front panel (if applicable) and filter. Plug in air conditioner.
Winter Storage
If you plan to store the air conditioner during the w inter, remove it carefully from the
w indow according to the installation instructions. Cover it w ith plastic or return it to the
original carton.

Air Directional Louvers
Air directional louvers control air flow direction. Your air conditioner has one of the
louver types described below.
4-Way Louvers
The 4-Way air directional louvers allow you to direct air flow up or dow n, left or
right throughout the room as needed. To adjust the air directional louvers side-to-
side, use the center handle as you move it side-to-side.

Avoid Service Checklist

Before calling for service, review this list. It may save you time and expense. This
list includes common occurrences that are not the result of defective w orkman-
ship or materials in this appliance.

House fuse blow n or circuit breaker tripped. Replace fuse w ith time delay type or reset circuit
breaker.

Unit turned off by moving thermostat to a higher number and then immediately turning back to
a colder number. Wait approximately 3 minutes. Listen for compressor to start.
Unit turned off and then on too quickly. Turn unit off and w ait 3 minutes before restarting.
Temperature set too high. Adjust temperature to low er number for cooling.

Outdoor temperature below 70°F (21°C). To defrost the coil, set selector to FAN position. Then,
set temperature to a higher number.
Air filter may be dirty. Clean filter. Refer to Care and Cleaning section. To defrost, set selector to
FAN.
Temperature set too low for night-time cooling. To defrost the coil, set to a FAN position. Then,
set temperature to a higher number.

Air directional louvres positioned improperly. Position louvres for better air distribution.
Front of unit is blocked by drapes, blinds, furniture, etc. — restricts air distribution. Clear blockage
in front of unit.
Doors, w indows, registers, etc. open — cold air escapes. Close doors, w indow s, registers, etc.
Unit recently turned on in hot room. Allow additional time to remove “ stored heat” from w alls,
ceiling, floor and furniture.
