ThankyouforyourpurchaseoftheWinlandTemp˚Alert
® modelMTA1.YournewTemp˚Alert
® hasbeendesignedforreliablemonitoringofareaswherehigh
andlowtemperaturelimitsarecritical.Temp˚Alert
® measurestemperaturesfrom30˚to+100˚F(1˚to+38˚C).Thisunitwillseparatelyzoneouthighandlow
temperaturealarmsignals.Thisuniquefeatureenablesyoutoinstantlyidentifywhetheryourfacilitybeingmonitoredhasahighorlowtemperaturecondition.
Simplyselectanacceptabletemperaturerangebysettingtheadjustablehighandlowlimitstops.Iftemperatureinthemonitoredareaeitherrisesorfallstothe
limitstops,thetemperatureindicatorwillcontactoneofthelimitstops.Thiscompletesthecircuitandprovidesyouwithadrycontactalarmsignal.TheMTA1
contactsarenormallyopendrycontactsratedat50mAat12VDC.Thisoutputcanbeusedtoactivatealarmsystems,telephonedialers,orotherremote
warningdevices.Temp˚Alert
® istheidealadditionforanysecuritysystem.

Location
InspecifyingthelocationandnumberofTemp˚Alerts
® toinstallconsiderroomsize,effectivenessoftheventilationsystem,andcriticalmonitoringareas.Ifthe
buildingalreadyhasanenergymanagementsystem,aneasyruleofthumbtofollowistoinstallaTemp˚Alert
® neareachthermostat.Itshouldbemountedon
awallorotherverticalsurfaceintheareawheretemperatureistobemonitored.Makesureitiswellclearofwindows,doors,orheatsourcesthatcouldcause
aninaccuratereadingofairtemperature. Whenprotectingabuildingagainstfreezedamage,alwaysinstallatleastoneTemp˚Alert
® oneverylevelof
thehomeorbusiness.
Installation
Itemsneeded:
· Standardscrewdriver
· 5/16”wrenchornutdriver
Step#1–OpeningtheCase
Beginwiththedevicefacingyou.Turnthedevice90˚totherighttoexposetheleftendofthecase.Noticethattheleftendofthebaseplatehasbeentooled
withasingleattachmentholewhereastherightendhasnot. Graspthedevicewithyourrighthand,positionyourthumbonthecenteroftheleftendofthe
deviceabovetheseamwithyourremainingfingersontherightendofthedevice(SeeFigure1). Presshardwithyourthumbtodisengagethelatchingpin.
Separatethetwohalvesbypullingthedeviceawayfromthebaseplate.

Step#2–AttachBasePlatetoMountingSurface
Afteryouhavedeterminedalocationforthedevicetobemounted,positionthebaseplateofthedeviceonthemountingsurfacewithyourhandandmarkthe
centerpointofthemountingholeswithapenorothermarkingdevice.Mountthebaseplatetothewallusingtheincludedmountingscrews.Dependingonthe
typeofsurfaceyouaremountingto,youmayneedtopredrillholestoacceptthemountingscrewsalone,ortheplasticanchorsandmountingscrews
Step#3–SelectingtheHighandLowSetPoints
Eachlimitpostiscontrolledbyalocknut.Usea5/16”nutdriverorwrenchtoloosen(turncounterclockwise)thehighandlowadjustmentposts(SeeFigure2).
Afterloosening,slidethepoststothepropertemperaturesetting.Oncethepostsareinthepropersettinglocations,simplyretightenthelocknuts(turn
clockwise).Avoidovertighteningofthelocknut.

Step#4–MakingtheWiringConnections
Tocompletetheinstallation,usethreeconductorstrandedorsolidwiretoconnecttheTemp˚Alert
® toacontrolpanel,dialer,etc. SeeFigure3foranexample
ofastandardinstallationthatutilizesdifferentiatednotificationoutputsforhighandlowtemperatureoccurrences.
Ifdesired,theHIlimitwireandLOWlimitwiremaybeconnectedtogetherunderasinglezone.Thisisusefulwheneveralimitednumberofopenzonesare
availableandyoudonotwishtodifferentiatebetweenahighandlowtemperaturenotification.

Step#5–AttachFrontCovertoBasePlate
Graspthedevicewithyourrighthandby positioningyourthumbonthecenteroftheleftendofthedeviceabovethelockingpinandpositioningyourremaining
fingersontherightendofthecase(SeeFigure1). Aligntheretainingtabsontherightedgeofthecasewiththeholesonrightedgeofthebaseplatecurrently
attachedtothemountingsurface.Presshardwithyourthumbontheleftendofthedeviceandswingthedevicebacktowardthebaseplateuntilthedevice
seatsproperlyintothebaseplateandthelockingpinengages.
OperationandTestingProcedures
Forproperoperation,theTemp˚Alert
® mustbelocatedinanareawherethetemperaturerangeiswithin30˚to+100˚F(1˚to38˚C). Tomanuallyactivatethe
Temp˚Alert
® fortesting,loosenthelocknutofonelimitpostandslideittowardthetemperatureindicatoruntilitmakescontactandtemporarilytightenthe
locknutnut.Ifinstalledcorrectly,thistestprocedureshouldactivatethewarningdevicetowhichtheTemp˚Alert
® isconnected.Aftertesting,loosenthe
locknut,returnthelimitarmtoitoriginalsetpointandtightenthelocknut.Thesametestprocedureshouldalsoberepeatedwiththesecondlimitarmtoverify
properoperation.
Important:DonotusetheMTA1Temp˚Alert
® inacoolerorfreezer.Frostbuildupandmoisturecancausetheunittomalfunction.Forcooler&
freezerapplications,useoneoftheEnviroAlert
® products(EA20012,EA20024,EA40012,EA40024)witharemoteprobe.
