How to:
Mounting the camera to the Wood-Comp camera slider
As we know there are many ways to mount your camera to the slider depending on what effect you
wanna achieve with your sliding shot and how can you accomplish that.
You can mount your camera straight to the carriage, perhaps you wanna have more freedom over the
framing of your shot, than you can place a video head on your carriage. In this way you will have
manual control over your shot while the slide.
However, I think the simplest and most popular solution is to mount a Mini or Standard ball head on the
carriage. A ball head will give you a great degree of freedom positioning your camera and frame your
shot as well as a ball head will give you the option to go vertical with your slider too. (Note: for “R”
version of sliders the use of ball head is a must to be able to set your first key frame at your tracking or panoramic
shots.)
Attention! For the safety of your camera gear, please make sure that you only mount your camera on the slider
when you made sure it is stabled! Have the carriage in locked position (as always!) mount your camera, perform
your sliding shot and lock your carriage again. Always keep the carriage locked when the slider is not in
operation! When you relocating the camera slider, remove your camera for the time being.

Basic operation of the slider
as of 2014 January
Generally we use camera sliders as stand alone motion tools placed on the ground or on top of a tripod,
perpendicular, parallel or anywhere in between to our subject or talent. Before doing anything is a good
idea to “step back” and imagine what we actually wanna see and how we wanna make our viewer feel
at this part of the film.
Thanks to the all terrain legs, spirit level, centre mount support and magnetic side support, we can
position our slider virtually in any orientation, the way we like it and the story requires.
After placing your slider, make sure there is no alien object on the rails and carriage wheels. Try your
slide before hitting the “Record” button, make sure it’s stabled during the entire sliding move.
When you place your slider on the top of a tripod make sure you secure the tripod base plate well so is
not gonna rotate when you operate your slider. Use the magnetic side-support. Its better to work on a
solid platform. To install the magnetic side-support is simple. How to do it correctly? Simple. The only
important thing is that you have to place your slider so that one of the leg is pointing into the centre line
of your slider. That is your slider support leg. (see illustration) Now, just mount the lower base on the
supporting leg by its velcro and pop in the side support bar in between. To engage just move the lower
base on the support leg as required.

Special features
One of this special feature is the Telescopic Magnetic Side Support. This device eliminates the need to
use two tripod or stand stile of support to perform a rock solid full length sliding shot. It’s a revolutionary
solution which is simple, do not add any bulk to your set up, while it is always at hand on the side of
your slider’s centre support. (Note: please, read about the physical properties of this magnets in the “Safety notes”
In case you have one of the “R” variant slider you can take advantage of a very special feature which is
pioneered by Wood-Comp. You can have Auto tracking on your subject or talent or can do panoramic
sort of a rotation while the sliding move. How is done? Simple.. Your slider is equipped with a cross-bar
between the main rails as well as turning table built into the carriage of your slider.
Perform a (centre orientated) tracking shot. Make sure that when you stand behind your slider you have
the cross-bar adjusting/locking plate on your Right-Hand Side!
No1: Move your camera on the
carriage to the Left-Side of slider
and by adjusting only your ball
head, set the 1st key frame of
your shot. (Note: Lock the ball head)
No2: Now, move your camera to
the Right-Side of the slider. At this
time the cross bar still parallel to the
rails.. (Note: live some room for your
fingers to adjust the Cross-bar)
No3: Now only by adjusting the
Cross-bar up and down, find
your 2nd key frame. Lock the
Cross-bar (Note: only finger tight) and
you are all set for your tracking shot.
Now, when you move your camera along the rail, is continuously tracking your selected subject or
talent. Note: your slider don’t need to be perpendicular to your shot, it can be in any angle on the horizontal field as well as
you can do vertical shots too, for example doing a vertical slide using the “Panoramic” rotation feature, key framing between
the shoes and the upper part of the dress.

Care and maintenance
Your camera slider is made of carbon and sheeted bamboo wood. They are extremely strong as long as
there actual duty goes as for camera slider, but please handle it with care during transportation and use
its padded protective case to do so. Make sure that the carriage is locked with its velcro strips during
transportation and at any time when the slider is not is use.
On daily basis to secure to perform smooth sliding shots you would need to ensure that the carbon rails
and the wheels of the carriage are free from any dust or other particles as well as not sticky from liquid,
etc. In case you need to clean them use a clean rug. For the wheels you can use cotton hygiene sticks as
illustrated on the below pictures.
When the side support is not in use stove it by the magnets on the side of your slider’s centre support.
as of 2014 January
In case it gets wet, etc.. during operation or transport, wipe the slider with a dry rug so the camera slider
is stoved back in its carry case dry.

Safety notes
All magnets, and in particular neodymium magnets, produce strong magnetic field, which may cause
different and difficult to predict incidents with disagreeable consequences. Because of that the Buyer,
before using the camera slider which includes such a magnets (in the ends of the side support and on one side
of midd support of your slider), should definitely find out about basic risks and threats, as well as rules to be
obeyed while handling, which are presented below :
Do not allow children to play with magnets!!Despite their undoubted attractiveness, neodymium
magnets are not toys and are not suited for playing, particularly to young children! Apart from risk of
crushing fingers or in the least pinching skin there is always a risk of swallowing small elements by a
child. That is why, for safety reasons, keep magnets out of reach of children.
Magnets are breakable!!As sintered ceramic material, neodymium magnets may easily be broken or
crushed. It is true particularly for magnets of thin shapes. It is therefore advisable to avoid situations
when magnets may be exposed to impacts or acting immediately deforming forces. Connecting and
disconnecting magnets should be done only in controlled conditions, by careful sliding them down or
over each other. You must not cut, drill, or otherwise process magnets. A magnet subject to machining is
likely to break, and its parts devoid of protective coating soon become damaged as a result of oxidation.
Notice – powder from a crushed magnet is inflammable!
Be careful with magnetic field!!Strong magnetic field produced by magnets may affect and cause
damages to electronic appliances. We recommend therefore to keep and use magnets at safe distance
from TV sets, monitors, computer loudspeakers, external memory carriers, clocks etc, as well as from
credit cards! Big magnets may affect functions of both hearing and heart devices! (in real life situation, just
do not let the end of your Side-support close to your memory cards and/or camera for longer period of time!)
Magnets affect human health!!Nickel with which neodymium magnets are coated may be a cause of
allergic reaction for people oversensitive to this element.
