XC01/XC05P:Youshouldfirstwakeupyouralarmbypressingthetestbutton;oncethealarmhaswokenup,theLCD
display will activate, then press the test button again until you heara short beep,indicating that the alarm hasenteredthe
testmode.Pleaserefertothe“Alarm Testing” sectionforfurtherinformation.Thealarmgoesbacktothestandbymodeafter

Ideally,acarbonmonoxidealarmshouldbeinstalledineveryroomcontainingafuel-burningappliance,andoneinevery
bedroom.
However,ifthenumberofcarbonmonoxidealarms availableislimited,thefollowingguidelinesshouldbeconsideredwhen
choosing the bestplaces toinstall analarm(s):
•
Ifthereisanapplianceinabedroom,aCOmonitorshouldbeinstalled.
•
Installanalarminroomscontainingafluelessoropen-fluedappliance.
•
Installan alarmwhereresidentsspend mostoftheirtime.
•
Inastudioapartment,aCOalarmshouldbeplacedasfarawayfromthecookingappliancesaspossible,butclosetowhere
the personsleeps.
•
Ifthe applianceisplacedinaroom notnormallyused (suchasa boilerroom),the COalarm should beplacedjustoutside of
thisroom so thatthe alarm canbeheardmoreeasily.

Installing a CO alarm in a room with a fuel-burning appliance (see Figure 1):
•
Ifitismountedonawall,itshouldbeinstalledataheightgreaterthantheheightofanydoororwindow,butshouldstill
beat least 150 mm (5.9inches)below the ceiling.
•
TheCOalarmshouldhaveahorizontaldistancebetween1m(3.3feet)and3m(10feet)fromanypotentialCOsource.
•
Ifthereisapartitionintheroom,theCOalarmshouldbeinstalledonthesamesideofthepartitionasthepotentialCOsource.

Installing the CO alarm in a bedroom or room without a fuel-burning appliance (see Figure 2):
•
MounttheCO alarmrelativelyclosetothebreathingzoneoftheoccupant.
•
InstallthealarmsuchthattheLEDindicatorisviewablewhentheoccupantisnearthealarm.
NOTE:
Due tothe product’s unique design and unfixed installation, itisnotrecommended toinstalliton a ceiling, asit is
prone to fallingoff andcausinginjuries topeople.

Important Note
Improperlocationcanaffectthesensitiveelectroniccomponentsinthisalarm.Toavoidcausingdamagetotheunit,toprovide
optimumperformanceandtopreventunnecessarynuisancealarms,donotlocateCOalarmsinthefollowingareas:
1.
Ingaragesor in anyextremelydusty,dirty orgreasyareas.
2.
Wherethereisthepossibilityofsmokeorfumesundernormaloperatingcircumstances.
3.
Inpoorlyventilatedkitchens,garagesandfurnacerooms.KeeptheCOalarmsatleast1.5m(5feet)frompotentialsmokeor
fumesources(e.g.stoves,furnaces,waterheaters,spaceheaters)ifpossible.
4.
Inareaswherea1.5m(5-foot)distancefromapotentialsmokeorfumesourceisnotpossible.Inmodular,mobileorsmaller
houses,itisrecommendedtheCOalarmbeplacedasfarfromanypotentialsmokeorfumesources.
5.
Within1.5 m(5 feet)ofanycooking appliance.

been shipped from the factory. When installing this product, you will needtopulloutthefilm before powering onand
activating thedevice.
Beforeuse,pulloutthebattery insulatingfilmfromthebatterycompartmenttopoweronthe device.Afterthedeviceisturned
on, the buzzer will beep once, the LCD backlight will light up, and the LED indicator will flash through 8 cycles
(yellow/green/red).The device willthen enterstandby mode.

Follow the process below to open the battery compartment cover:
Holdthealarm withboth handsandputyourthumbs onboth ends of the batterycompartmentcover. Then, pushthe cover
upwards with someforce toremove it.

Chooseasuitableinstallationlocation byreferringto the“Where toInstall” section.

Removetheindicationstickerfromthepackagingandrefertotheholelocationsonthesticker.Drawtwoscrewholes
accordingtothesizeandlayout of themounting holesonthebackoftheproduct.Drillthescrewholes 30mm(1.18inches)
deepusingaØ6.0 mm(1/4-inch) drillbit.Notethatthedistancebetweenthecenterofthetwoholesis74mm(2.9inches).

Inserttheanchorplugintothescrewholeandhammeritinuntiltheheadoftheanchorplugisflushwiththewall.

Usethetwoprovided screws or3.5×25mmcountersunkscrewstoscrewintothetwoanchorplugs.Besuretoleavea5
mm(1/5-inch)gapbetweentheheadoftheanchorplugsandthescrews,whichwillallowforeasydevicemounting.

Mountandlockthedeviceontothewallbyaligningthetwomountingslotsonthebackofthedevicewiththescrewson
thewall.
6.
Testthedeviceby pushingthetestbuttonto makesurethatthedeviceisfunctioningproperly.
Installation on a Table
The base of the detector has two feet built into the design that allow it to stand freely on a flat surface.
NOTE: When placing on a shelf, please adhere to the recommended placement as described in “Where to Install.”

Peak CO Concentration Memory and Reset
Besuretotest your COalarms whenyouturnthem onforthefirsttime.Inaddition tothe weeklytest youshould perform,itis
alsorecommendedtotestthealarmafterreturningfromalongtriporvacation.

Pushthetestbuttononcetowakeupthealarm,
andpressthetestbutton againwhentheLCDison.
Push the test button.
Device
Response
The device beeps 4 times twice, and theLED will flash red. The LCD will display “---,” “PAS,” the peak
COconcentrationrecordedsincethepreviousreset,andfinally“0.” Thisindicatesthatthedeviceis
functioning properly.
NOTE: The test function accurately tests the alarm’s CO sensing circuit without the need of testing CO.
ThepeakCOconcentrationfeatureishelpfulinidentifyingiftherehavebeenanydangerousCOreadingssinceapeakCO
concentration reset.
Eachtimeyoupushthetestbutton,theLCDdisplaysthepeakCOconcentrationrecordedsincethepreviousreset.Thepeak
COconcentrationwillbedisplayedfor5seconds,andthenthedevicewillenterstandbymode.Intheexample,300ppmwas
themaximumCOconcentrationrecorded sincetheunitwaslastreset.
PeakCOConcentrationReset:
Duringthe5secondswhentheLCDdisplaysthepeakCOconcentration,pressandhold
thetestbuttonfor3seconds,thedevicewillbeep,theLED willflashgreen,andthepeakCOconcentrationwillberesetwith
LCD displaying“0.”
NOTE:Ifthecarbonmonoxideconcentrationislowerthan30ppm,itwillnotberecordedinthepeakCOconcentration.
Pressthetestbuttonduringanalarmtohavetheunitentersilencemode.IftheCOdensitystillexceedsthealarmthreshold
after6minutes,theunitwillenter anotheralarmstate. Otherwise,theunitwillexitthe silencemodeafter9minutes and
resumenormaloperation.IftheCOconcentrationisabove300ppm,thesilencefunctioncannotbeenabled.

To keep your alarm in good working order, you should adhere to the following steps.

3.
Neverusedetergentsorsolventstocleanthealarm.Chemicalscanpermanentlydamageortemporarilycontaminatethe
sensor.
4.
Avoidsprayingairfresheners,hairspray,paintor other aerosolsnearthealarm.
5.
Donotpainttheunit.Paintmayclogtheopeningstothesensingchamberandpreventtheunitfromoperatingproperly.

RemovetheoldbatteryandreplacewithaCR123AorCR2/3Abattery(aHuideruiCR123AorPairdeerCR2/3Abatteryis
recommended)whentheLCDdisplaysthe“Lb” messageandtheLEDindicatorflashesyellowonceevery60secondswiththe
buzzer chirping.
Afterchangingthebattery,thebuzzerwillbeeponce,theLCDbacklightwilllightup,andthe LEDindicatorwillflashthrough

NOTE: Rechargeable batteries are not recommended for use with this device.

ThisCOalarm will notsensecarbonmonoxidethatdoesnotreachthesensor. ThisCOalarmwillonlydetect COthat
reachesthesensor.COmaybepresentinotherareas.DoorsorotherobstructionsmayaffecttherateatwhichCOreaches
theCOalarm.Forthisreason,ifbedroomdoorsareusuallyclosedatnight,itisrecommendedthatyouinstallaCOalarmin
each bedroom and inthehallway betweenthem.

COalarmsmaynotsenseCOonanotherlevelofthehouse.Forexample,aCOalarmonthesecondlevel,nearthe
bedrooms,maynotsenseCOinthebasement.Forthisreason,oneCOalarmmaynotgiveanadequatewarning.Complete
coverageisrecommendedbyplacingCO alarmsoneachlevelof thehouse.

COalarmsmay notbeheard.Thealarm buzzernoiselevelisover85dBatadistanceof3m(10feet).However,iftheCO
alarmisinstalledoutsidethebedroom, itmaynotawakenasoundsleeperoronewhohasrecentlyuseddrugs orhasbeen
drinkingalcohol.Thisisespeciallytrueifthedoorisclosedoronlypartiallyopen.Evenpersonswhoareawakemaynothear
thealarmhornifthesoundisblockedbydistanceorcloseddoors.Noisefromtraffic,stereos,radios,televisions,air
conditioners,orotherappliancesmayevenpreventalertpersonsfromhearingthealarmhorn.ThisCOalarmisnotintended
for people whoare hearingimpaired.

COalarmsare notasubstituteforasmokealarm.Althoughfireisasourceofcarbon monoxide,thisCOalarmdoesnot
sense smoke or fire. This CO alarm senses CO thatmay beescaping unnoticed from malfunctioning furnaces, appliances, or
otherpossiblesourcesofincompletecombustion.Theinstallationofasmokealarmisrequiredforanearlywarningoffire.

COalarmsarenotasubstituteforlifeinsurance.ThoughtheseCOalarmswarnagainstincreasingCOlevels,wedonot
warrantorimplyinanywaythattheywillprotectlivesfrom COpoisoning.Homeownersandrenters muststillinsuretheir
lives.
