children,petsandbystandersoutoftheareawhilemowing.Only
theoperatorshouldrideon the unitandonly ridein theseat.
7. Checkoverheadclearancecarefullybeforedrivingunderpower
lines,guywires,bridgesor lowhangingtreebranches,before
enteringorleavingbuildings,or in anyothersituationwherethe
operatormaybestruckorpulledfromtheunit,whichcouldresult
in seriousinjury.
8. Tomaintaincontroloftheunitandreducethepossibilityofupset
orcollision,operatethetractorsmoothly.Avoiderraticoperation
andexcessivespeed.
9. Thoroughlyinspectthe areato bemowed.Removeallstones,
sticks,wire,bonesandotherforeignobjects.Keeptheareaof
operationclearofallpersons,particularlysmallchildrenandpets.
Stopenginewhentheyareinthevicinityofyourmower.Although
theareaofoperationshouldbecompletelyclearedofforeignob-
jects,asmallobjectmayhavebeenoverlookedandcouldbeac-
cidentlythrownbythe mowerin anydirectionandcauseinjury
toyouor abystander.Planyourmowingpatterntoavoiddischarge
ofmaterialtowardroads,sidewalks,bystanders,petsandthelike.
10. Alwayswearsafetyglassesor eyeshieldsduringoperationorwhile
performingan adjustmentor repair,to protecteyesfromforeign
objectsthatmaybethrownfromthe machineIn anydirection.
11. Stopthe blade(s)whencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.
12. Disengageallattachmentclutches,thoroughlydepressthebrake
pedal,andshiftinto neutralbeforeattemptingto startengine.
13. Beforeleavingtheoperator'sposition,disengageblade(s),place
shiftleverin neutral,engageparkingbrake,shutengineoffand
removekey.
14. Donotputhandsor feetnearorunderrotatingparts.Keepclear
ofthedischargeopeningatalltimesastherotatingblade(s)can
causeinjury.
15. Disengagepowerto attachment(s)andstopenginebeforemak-
inganyrepairsoradjustments.Disconnectthesparkplugwire
andkeepthewireawayfromtheplugto preventaccidentalstarting.
16. Beforeattemptingtounclogthemowerordischargechute,stop
theengine.Themowerblade(s)maycontinueto rotatefor afew
secondsaftertheengineisshutoff.Therefore,besuretheblade(s)
havestoppedcompletely.Disconnectthesparkplugwireandkeep
thewireawayfrom the plugto preventaccidentalstarting.
17. Disengagepowertoattachment(s)whentransportingor notinuse.
18. Foryoursafety,usetheslopegaugeincludedaspartofthismanual
to measureslopesbeforeoperatingthis unitonaslopedor hilly
area.Iftheslopeisgreaterthan150asshownontheslopegauge,
do notoperatethisuniton thatareaor seriousinjurycouldresult.
19. Donotstopor startsuddenlywhengoinguphillordownhill.Mow
upanddownfaceofsteepslopes;neveracrosstheface. Use
extremecautionifit isnecessarytodrivethetractorupanincline
orbackthetractordownaninclinebecausethefrontofthetrac-
tor couldlift andrapidlyflip overbackwardwhichcould cause
seriousinjury.
20. Reducespeedonslopesandinsharpturnsto preventtippingor
lossofcontrol.Alwayskeepthetractorin lowgearwhengoing
downsteephillstotakeadvantageofenginebrakingaction.Choose
alowenoughgearsothatyouwill nothavetostoporshiftwhile
on theslope.
21. Stayalertforholesinterrainandotherhiddenhazardswhichmay
causethe unitto tip over.

26. Neverstorethemachinewithfuelinthefueltankinsideabuilding
wherefumesmayreachanopenflameorspark,suchashotwater
andspaceheaters,clothesdryers,andthelike.Allowtheengine
to coolbeforestoringin anyenclosure.
27. Toreducefirehazard,keepengineandcuttingdeckfreeofgrass,
leavesor excessivegreaseor oil.
28. Keepthevehicleandattachmentsin goodoperatingcondition,
andkeepsafetydevicesin place.Useguardsas instructedin
operator'smanual.Donotoperatethisunitunlessthechutedeflec-
tor, guards,andsafetyinterlocksystemareinstalledandfunc-
tioningproperly.
29. Keepall nuts, bolts, and screws tight to be sure the equipment
is in safeworking condition.
30. Thevehicleandattachmentsshouldbestoppedandinspectedfor
damageafterstrikingaforeignobject.Thedamageshouldbe
repairedbeforerestartingandoperatingtheequipment.
31. Donot changetheenginegovernorsettingsor overspeedthe
engine.
