DA ZWEIMANN USB commitment to Hi-Res audio playback and supports
gapless playback and the ability to play DSD, Quad DSD and PC along
with other Hi-Res formats. The DA ZWEIMANN USB has what it takes to
help you enjoy your music, and to discover how truly amazing music can
sound on a DAC engineered for hi-res analog and digital audio.
As befits a device that will be the heart of a digital audio system, the DA
ZWEIMANN USB employs VERITA AK4490 DACs, designed by Asahi Kasei
icrodevices Corporation for use in high-end audio equipment.* The
VELVET SOUND architecture of the AK4490 is capable of producing a finely-
detailed and expressive sound at frequencies audibility, necessary for Hi-
Res Audio playback. And newly developed Low Distortion Technology
achieves 112dB of S/(N+D) which is the highest level in the industry for a
120dB-class DAC.
As well as 11.2 Hz DSD Native playback, the DA ZWEIMANN USB also
supports wide variety of Hi-Res Audio sources, including 384kHz/32-bit
PC , and delivers on Hi-Res Audio's promise of smooth, ultra-detailed
sound and an outstanding soundstage.
In the pre-amp section, the DA ZWEIMANN USB employs a fully-
balanced
circuit design from the out
put of the D/A Converters and Volume Amplifier
section. Control signals from the volume knob precisely control four
independent variable-gain amplifiers simultaneously — both positive and
negative for the left and right channels. With this circuit design, audio
signal paths are simplified and independent left and right channels and
phase is preserved for clear sound quality with outstanding channel

separation.
DA ZWEIMANN USB has a Bluetooth 3.0 class 2 surface mount audio
module with PCB trace antenna on board.
The module provides a fully integrated solution for delivering high quality
stereo audio in a small form factor.
It combines a Class 2 Bluetooth radio with an embedded DSP processor,
controlled and configured by simple ASCII commands and GPIO.
It integrates RF, a baseband controller, and DSP, making it a complete
Bluetooth audio wireless link. Bluetooth 3.0 class 2 supports HSP/HFP,
A2DP, AVRCP, SPP, and iAP profiles and includes support for codecs such
as SBC, aptX, and AAC. It provides a UART interface, GPIO, stereo speaker
outputs, stereo microphone inputs, and a USB port.

Corporation specifically for professional audio equipment and high-end digital audio applications.
Fr m Hi-Res t Extreme Res luti n
High-volume storage has become cheap enough for the proliferation of hi-res music beyond CD
quality (16-bit/44.1kHz). Storing 24-bit/96 kHz or 192 kHz music ith PCM encoding in
uncompressed format (typically WAV) or lossless compression format (such as FLAC, M4A, WMA)
has become standard practice for audio enthusiasts.
Music is typically recorded in 24 or 32-bit PCM or DSD format at the recording studio. It is then
converted to lo er resolution format for mass-market distribution.
Pulse-code modulation (PCM) is a method used to digitally represent sampled analog signals. It is
the standard form of digital audio in computers, compact discs, digital telephony and other digital
audio applications. In a PCM stream, the amplitude of the analog signal is sampled regularly at
uniform intervals and each sample is quantized to the nearest value ithin a range of digital steps.
A PCM stream has t o basic properties that determine the stream's fidelity to the original analog
signal: the sampling rate, hich is the number of times per second that samples are taken, and the
bit depth, hich determines the number of possible digital values that can be used to represent
each sample.
DXD is simply PCM 24-bit/352.8 kHz.
Direct-Stream Digital (DSD) is the trademark name used by Sony and Philips for their system of
digitally recreating audible signals for the Super Audio CD (SACD). DSD uses pulse-density
modulation encoding – a technology to store audio signals on digital storage media that are used
for the SACD.
The data is stored as Delta-Sigma modulated digital audio, a sequence of single-bit values at a
sampling rate of 2.8224 MHz (64 times the CD audio sampling rate of 44.1 kHz, but only at 1⁄16 bit
resolution).

Comparing PCM and DSD
Identical data in DSD64 (2.8 MHz sampling rate) format takes up approximately 20% more storage
space than 24-bit/96kHz format. The ZWEIMANN DAC I2S DSD is designed to faithfully reproduce
music irrespective of format.
